Sounds honest and I don't mind. I consider the Dime to be an EDC. IF I want something that will do the trick then I have to use a proper tool. I can't walk around carrying a key chain that weighs 1Kg with all the keys, flashlight, blade and multitool even if it's still light enough to carry. So... Personally I want sth that will last and do the job adequately but if it's expensive I want it to be perfect... No flaws, rusty parts as some ppl report for a few Leatherman multitools. With the tiny Dime I will only lose 25 euros instead of 50+ if it turns out useless. In the end, it's a compromise as someone posted earlier.
Designed for very light work, and not for any serious grunt work. Within its limitations, it's a very useful tool. PS The scissors blades can be sharpened.
I was a leatherman fan until this little all purpose came out. The bottle opener is great, I don't have to fumble around to help a buddy out. I was already sold when it was one of the tools with a tweezer and package opener. The plier is great when having to go pull a fuse in the car.At the price and great quality all the household keychain has a dime in the mix. The sheepskin shape knife is also great for peeling fruit.
About the Gerber dime. There just isn't any quality checking or assurances done. There is a pretty good guarantee, but it's hit or miss. I bought several of them, pick the one I like that work the best, and took back the others. That's the only way you can get a good one, because it's something on the order of 1 out of 5 where everything works and is worth having. I would prefer a carabiner instead of a bottle opener. That's my experience with a gerber dime. Catch you later.
Appreciate the honest review. I have found every multi-tool I have used to be severely lacking. A compromise of everything. I never carry them & most likely will never buy another. Like you. I always have easy access to proper better tools suited for the job. Spending that amount of $ on this little multi-tool just for the package opener seems a bit luxurious. Just carry a proper good quality pocket knife. That's all a man (person) needs. There are always wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers & tweezers available that are far better than any multi-tool if you know your job description & are thoughtfully prepared. Cheers. *Edit: If you need it for the bottle opener. where have you been? Under a rock? Any hard object held in your hand will pry a bottle cap off. Of corse there aren't many smokers these days but the end of a lighter comes to mind. A stick works great too.
I disagree about the lanyard ring. If you don’t have pockets, you can put it on a necklace or rope. More importantly, you can use it on a string as a plum bob or plummet tool. And also, for finding water or directions (North South East or West) you can use it as a dowsing tool.
I think I was a lot more lucky with the build quality, I dont have any of your issues. There is just one thing I dont like about it. I would like to skip the fladhead screwdriver an just get 1 big nailfile. and the package opener really surprised me, why would I want that tool, Its really usefull. I do recomend this tool. And for Gerber please make a combo with a belt leather holder.
I'm baffled at all the people going crazy about a package opener. I thought the knife was already the optimal tool to do it. I would r ach for the blade. But yeah, this is a viable tool for example for fishing.
Our Gerber Dime supposedly was shipped from the factory. It was already rusted and scraped up. Even had it been in tip-top condition, the Dime was not a multi-tool worth having.
Master Yo I have mine and still use it. I’m not blown away by it but I do use it still. Mine also had a dent on it when I got it. Overall from the price I think it’s ok but def room for improvement, I agree.
I've had this thing for years and I have gotten many splinters while out in the bush. I've tried to use the tweezers for splinter removal and they suck. But the pliers on this thing work so well for just that, its the main reason why I carry it.
Only good thing are the pliers. The hinge however to unfold the two halfs is mechanically not precise enough. Knive and scissors are to dull and almost useless. Disappointing product.
My Dime works great for all the small tasks I use it for. It's so small I always have it in my pocket and I like it a lot
The tweezers are actually great to get out the fuzzy stuff from the lightning port of an iPhone.

Check. I just bought on on Black Friday. You’ve given an honest and accurate review.
Thank you for your honest review.
I don't quite understand the point of the retail package opener. Why wouldn't you just use the knife?
To keep from dulling your main blade. And by “retail packaging” they mean it’s actually for opening blister packs, not cardboard boxes.
They need to come up with stuff to increase the count of tools.
Scissors. Paper, which you may want to conserve. Low test fishing line.
People expect Benchmade quality out of this and it's like $18. Jeez
Cause we remember times when well made things didn't come with a premium price.

$18 isn't that much imo.
Everything increases in price with time unfortunately.
The package opening tool is really designed for blister packs. Just like victorinox version and leatherman .
And it saves on dulling your knife blade.

The wire cutter works on bare wire.

Good, honest review - thanks.
"Liked" for honesty
Tx for the honest review.
Thank you for the upload. Very helpful.
Bought it cuz it was 20 bucks. Scissors come in handy when cutting fishing line. Retail box opener. It’s okay tool but mostly a gimmick IMO

This video is so intense
My tweezers actually pulled a hair out of my beard. It'll pull a splinter.

Keep doing it!
Pinalloy thanks 🙏 Pinalloy
Use case?
First comment from Spain, will you give them to me?
Damm Baby haha well it’s not new anymore :)

Knive and scissors are to dull and almost useless.
Disappointing product.
The pliers are better than the Victorinox (for example the Angler have pliers) ?
File. Fero rod.
I mean its gerber when they are original they make it great but when its famouse they mas produce things and it just gets worse
Background music is too loud.
you were too kind in this review
The dime is a standard peace of garbage lol
