Omg I’m so excited that you’re reading fanfic in a vlog :] if you’re interested in more HP fic I’d recommend All the Young Dudes which follows the Marauders through all their years at school and through the first wizarding war. It’s so near and dear to my heart.
YES seconding ATYD it’s one of my absolute favorites
Atyd❤❤❤
OMG yessssssss I hope she reads it 😭🤌🏽
wholeheartedly agree with this. i haven’t finished the fic yet because i’m terrified to see how it ends but the story that the author decided to create is so comforting but also complex and heartbreaking. so so glad i heard about it!!
Where to read this 👀
Us oldest daughters really do have to do everything don't we? 🤣 Your ads are always so funny lol Thanks for another great video! 🥰
When you said it was a fanfic that would destroy your entire soul, I knew you were talking about Manacled 😂
I love how Emma just casually rolled up with a fanfic in this video. Iconic! 😂
Girl, there are 140+ videos of my Emma-yet-to-watch playlist ALONE (which is why I'm commenting on this a couple months late!) Anyway, love your advertisement, love your content (especially vlogs), love everything about it. And traumatising fanfic and Shakespeare are the main ingredients on my reading list sooo ... this is my jam. Keep it up and happy new year! EDIT: omg The Juniper Tree is like the Titus Andronicus of Fairy Tales. We read it in school, it's written in a low German dialect.
I read Manacled last year and I think about it from time to time and my heart aches for everything that has happened. One of my favorite stories of all time. Excited for you! Please make a review of it, I’d love to see more Manacled discussions on CZcams!
I’m so glad I’m not the only one with an extremely long watch later playlist 😅 hence why I’m over a month late to this vlog. I just recently read emily wilde’s and I’m so happy you’re enjoying it! it was such a good winter read
I've been watching you for a good couple years now and I'm always so excited for your wintery videos! Your content is always such comfort but seeing how much joy winter brings you is lovely. Hope you have a great Christmas/holidays, Emmie x
Emma’s Winter vlogs help my brain heal from life so much. Thanks Emmie ❤️
Mint is super invasive and will take over the whole garden if not contained. Love your cozy vlogs so much, especially the winter ones!! I would dearly love some snow footage if you ever want to include any - we never get any where I live, sadly. ❤
Just a reminder here that your videos are so warm and cozy and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your reading/life journey with us 💕😄🙏
im so glad ur loving emily wilde and can't wait to see u reading it, i read it earlier this year and adored it!!
You reading fanfics honestly heals me so much. I had a classmate who absolutely loved classics and Jane Austen, while I've always been a huge fangic girlie. One day i read a fanfic inspired by one of Austen's books, and i was so excited when i came to that classmate and told her about it. The look of utter judgement and disgust when she found out someone would "corrupt" her favourite author with something "as low as a fanfic", it brought so much shame to me and feeling like i was less than for not only reafing profound works. So to see you be so open about it, as someone who also likes classics and studied literature, it just makes me so happy 🥹❤️
Ugh I hate when people are snobby about books!
are there any fanfics based on jane austen's work you'd reccommend?
That's so embarrassing of her. book snobbism is cringe
encylopedia of fairies was on of my favs this year! you will absolutely adore it
hi @emmie
you make me so happy i love watching you videos and vlogs they calm me down and help me relax
I haven't watched it yet, but I was so happy to see that you've uploaded and double happy that it's about fanfiction! I started out with fanfic (and still read a lot of it today) before I ever dipped in original books like PJO 2 years ago. Then, I'm starting to branch out of that fandom this year and into books that was mostly recommend from you and Carolyn. 😊
Sundays, always made better by Emma ❤
saving a depressive sunday. love your videos!
Not me challenging my watch later playlist by watching this vlog now 😂😂 I still have videos of yours from August to catch up on LOL glad to not be the only one who watches chronologically
Omg I've read that one! As soon as I've heard High Reeve it took me to memory journey i did not want to take. I was feeling you the whole time.
Beautiful vlog by the way
Hi Emmie! How are you?
Love your reading vlog!
I recommend reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It's a wonderful historical fiction book!
❤❤❤❤❤
I put a hold on emily wilde at the library when you talked about it in a different video and just finished reading it 2 days ago and I loved it sm! I’m not even a big fantasy reader but I had such a wonderful time with it
I love how you are not afraid to read YA and fanfiction as a classic novel reader!!!
Coincidently, i took a break from reading a Dramione fic to watch this video. If you want to mend your broken heart after finishing Manacled (it still hurts to think about it) i highly recommend ‘Draco Malfoy and the mortifying ordeal of being in love’. The writing style is so good, the plot is *chef’s kiss* and it’s just a good time all around
Your family garden is very beautiful 😊 I remember one year me and my siblings found a massive wild mint plant in Thames park, I wonder if it's still there it smelled very nice
Love when you go home, it's so beautiful! Evie is so darling, so is Calcifer. Thank you for the vlog! 😊☺️❤
I agree that the writing tried way too hard sometimes but I actually ended up LOVING Juniper and Thorn, and I tend to be very picky with my fantasy/fairytale reads. Maybe it was just my brand of dark fairytale, but I'm interested to hear your thoughts if you finish it! :)
mint is so invasive but it’s smells so good in my garden
Can't believe we both started our winter reads this year with the same book! Although all of my winter reads from last year and the ones that I plan on reading this year are from your channel 😁❄️ I'm very excited to hear your opinion on it, I'm approximately a third in and I'm kinda liking it but I guess I just expected it to be a little different. Next up for me after Emily Wilde is The golden compass 🥳
Your intense love of winter makes me yearn to live in a place where it snows, even more than I already did. Living in the SW, I'll always have a place in my heart for the desert, but I'm ready. Ready for seasons.
SW?
@@rosentickan oh sorry. SW is SouthWest, like the southwest US. I'm from Arizona.
I hope you are well Emma, I love your channel. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! I read 12th night in middle school and As You Like it
love when you’re in your hometown so much, i started watching your vlogs way back when you were still living there and i would love and wait to see the beautiful scenery outside with the woods and all 😭🫶🏽
loved this vlog so so much, you made me wanna read that fanfiction so bad 😂 i’ve heard about it a lot and just forgot to actually read it so this is a good reminder, also should really read the handmaid’s tale too 😅
thank you for your beautiful videos
Thanks for talking through some of the triggers in Manacled. Id been on the fence about whether I should read it because of the triggers on it but hearing you talk through some of them made me realise once and for all it's not for me ❤
Thank you for this wonderful reading vlog ! I was writing an essay on Rilke for a class on the literary vocation, thinking of you and your love for him when the notification popped up 😭
I saw someone recommend All The Young Dudes , and I second that !! If you’re interested in reading more fanfic, this one is really well written (although you should probably wait until January to start it if you want to complete your reading goals cause it’s quite long too)
Love you and Calcifer and Evie ❤
Man your ads are so good. The only ads I will watch
The watch later thing😂😂 im doing the same thing, rn im at november/december😅
Emily wilde is one of the best books I've read this year.... So happy that 2nd book is coming out January 2024 and the draft of book 3 is finished by the author ❤🎉
So glad you posted❤
I also have a very long Watch Later list, and therefore only watching this video now, in the end of January :D
omg so excited to see you read a fanfic!! I would HIGHLY recommend The Last Enemy: Howling Nights by chdarling. It is a fanfic about the first wizarding war and spans the Marauders + Lily, Snape and Regulus. It’s so well written, and takes such a dive into the psychological aspects of the characters. And it is so incredibly heart-warming 🥺 but ofc moves towards being devastating due to the tragic end
Ooh I’ll put this on my list!!
Emma, we will anything and everything you put here so yes to monthly wrap ups 😂
alias grace is the best Margret Atwood book. I love listening to it as an audiobook
If you do want to give Twelfth Night a fair chance to show off how funny it can be watch The Globe Theatre's filmed production of Twelfth Night with Mark Rylance. It is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen, and made me into a true believer of this play (as someone who was also very meh on it after my high school experience with it).
Maybe it still won't work for you, but this production is truly the play at its best
Love your vlogs
Hey Emma! You should talk about your favorite movies :)
Always love to see more vlogs
i’m so happy it’s no longer “shameful” to read fanfiction. once you free yourself from the shackles of cringe culture you discover gems hidden in the depth of ao3 catalogue
oh i love that you're dipping into the world of fanfiction. like dreamywilllow, if you're interested in more HP, my all time favorite draco/hermione fanfic is draco malfoy and the mortifying ordeal of being in love. it has it all, sass, banter, a mystery, flying vindictive nuns. it's hilarious. my only thing is that its an extremely slow burn but so worth it when the idiots finally admit to loving each other.
She’s the Man (2006) is loosely based off of Twelfth Night lol.. it’s a must watch if you’ve never seen it
your sponsorship breaks are the only ones i don’t skip because your flair to them is always just chefs kiss
Huzzah--so glad to see a video today! Always brightens up a dreary Sunday morning and helps get me in the reading mood. I just got notified my library has the Dollmaker of Krakow on hold for me so I look forward to that. Thanks for the rec! Finishing up "All the Light We Cannot See" so that will be good next read! Have a great week, Emma! 🙂
Pendragon2012,
Hello! What did you think of All the Light We Cannot See? It has been on my "book radar" for a while, but other books seem to take my attention away from it. 😊Thank you! Be well. 🙏
@@trishnickles2236 Howdy. I think it's fantastic. I'll probably give it four stars. The story is compelling and the characters very relatable. Pacing and chronology is a bit of an issue is there doesn't seem to be any real logic to it. But still well worth the time. Have a good one!
@@pendragon2012
Hi,
Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it! Take care.
haven't read Twelfth Night but hearing you talk about it all i can think about is She's the Man and the perfection that it is 😂
hi! i an reading juniper and thorn right halfway through + and so far i really like it and enjoy it!You should give it a try.
that sponsored part with your brother was so good
Manacled was a ride 😅 I read it earlier in the year.
Im glad you are liking Emily Wildes Encyclopaedia of Faries, I hope you enjoy the rest of it
Twelfth Night is so much funnier in performance. I saw it at the Globe in 2015 and had tears of laughter STREAMING down my face, I was honestly choking. Embarrassing for me lol.
I am not even THAT into harry potter but I really want to read that fic ngl
All the young dudes is another brilliant fanfic based on Harry Potter universe :) it’s pretty long but I read it in like a week or two because I just couldn’t stop
Aww, your grandma and my mom share a birthday. Exactly 10 years apart.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who watches youtube channels chronologically. 😁
Small things like these and End of the Affair will be a couple of good shorties to get get you to your finish line.
PS Happy Holidays. Thank you for all the bookish conversation.
hi! emma it makes me almost giddy to see you read fanfics, if you ever want to read a deep p character study of Hermione's character, and the growing pains of delving into adulthood, I suggest Detraquee by Hystaracal on ao3.
The writer is an absolute genius in capturing the insecurity and brazenness of being 16 years old, the endearing friendships and how they cause the most pain, the hopelessness Hermione feels due to war , and the subsequent emergence of a character you feel have gone journey with.
The fic is littered with literary and artistic references and her mental dialogue is so so endearing that you cant help but fall in love with her, i really think you will love it.
Honestly, it is so so so good that it should have been published novel.
Go the fanfic. With Juniper, I struggled with it, but for other reasons. But, I do think it's decent enough. I just found the MC read younger than she was presented as. Once I decided she was 17 on my head cannon, I was able to enjoy it more.
Hello Emmie,
You said you were down and sad and didn't know if the book you were reading was to blame. I myself am greatly affected by what I watch and read. As some wise person once told me "garbage in garbage out". I'm not saying what your reading is garbage but if you watch and read things that are dark then that will affect you.
I asked myself the same question you asked today. Since watching or reading things can influence my dreams as well, I try hard not to let darkness in.
I think that's why I gravitate to Dickens and other classic authors. Thanks for your wonderful Italy tour vlogs! It made me feel like I was there!
Manticle sounds like a good FF story, but I'm not a Dramione shipper, so I don't know. I like to read Twelfth Night since I love She's the Man, which is a retelling of it.
I feel like I'm living and breathing Invictus by greyana these last few months, if you would wanted more fanfic recommendations. I always laugh when I think that I walked right past all the dramione and fell right down the tomione rabbit hole 😂😂😂
And I quite liked Juniper and Thorn. I think a lot of people didn't like the dark themes but yeah, it isn't really heavy on a plot type of book.
I know this is completely unrelated, but what brand is the white top you’re wearing? I love it so much! Also, I love your kindle case. It’s the perfect green!
Aww 😔. Twelfth Night is my favorite Shakespeare comedy
Thank you for posting (:
473 videos on my watch later playlist😭 there are some from like 4 years ago.I always mean to watch them but never do
Any chance we may get a spoiler review of Manacled? I'd love that
I am not one for fanfics (at least, haven’t been for this last decade, too old for it now, lol) but every once in a while you come across some really decent crafts out there. I read one on the HP universe about 2 years ago: *Seven Devils (by sunder_soul on AO3)*
It was cute; a nicely and cohesively written fanfic I actually enjoyed.
a lot of people are recommending atyd, and although it’s fantastic, i gotta say you NEED to read crimson rivers. it will devastate you, but you’ll love it :)
I was similarly underwhelmed with juniper and thorn for like 60% of it but something about the end made it worth it. Now looking back, all I remember is how grotesque/horrible the final scenes were (in a good way). I think like 3.5, I’d say keep with it
I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but everytime you were talking about manacled and said "harry potter is dead" all I could think about was Voldemort's laughter after that line "HEE HE HE"
Alrighty fellow Canadian, I have to ask: how did you find Manacled? I downloaded the kindle app, can’t find it. I tried searching it on Amazon, and it says “out of print”. Before I buy the kindle (which I 100% will), is it on kindle unlimited? Do I need an American Amazon acct? thank youuuuu
Great vlog 📚⛄☕🎄🎁🧑🎄
Juniper & Thorn was a 5 star read for me I lovedddd it. I think it’s definitely an acquired taste though, it can be very graphic or slow if you’re not fully pulled into this story. It’s definitely character driven over plot driven. The way Ava Reid describes hunger and food in general is so,,, indescribable. Ugh it’s just unlike anything I’ve read.
Ahhhhhhh I love this comment! Juniper and Thorn is one of my favorite books of all time and Ava Reid is one of my favorite authors of all time! Juniper and Thorn is one of those books to me that is just absolute perfection 😭🤌🏽 It's my favorite book by her and I literally think about it all the time
@@jasminesmith6361 you loving juniper & thorn and ATYD - you have impeccable taste !!
@@jasminesmith6361 also same, I’m still thinking about juniper & thorn - one of my fav books of the year
Love you ❤
OMG hi Emma!! I've been wanting to comment in your videos for MONTHS but I always felt so weird because I'm so behind on your content; but then you mentioned how you watch videos chronologically and you falling behind so I feel seen haha, hello!! As you can see I'm 4 months behind but I've been watching you for over a year now and let me tell you how much I love your channel and your whole persona. I'm a literature student too and until your channel I always thought there was some lack of "representation" in the yt community, every time uni gets too hard I always come to your videos for a break and some motivation, truly thank you. I hope you get to see this, and if not, hope I can get up to date soon!! Sending you lots and lots of love from Mexico
I’m also 4 months behind lol
@@mghrt06 oh hiiii
hii emmie
Anyone know where I can download Manacled?
I have 4500 videos in my watch later playlist. Thankfully i don't tell myself I need to watch them all 😅. I can tell you though, that it maxes out at 5000 videos lol
The zoomies are so funny. I had a boxer Rottweiler mix and he would get the zoomies. He would run so fast I don’t know how he made the turns. I miss him. He was a dog thrown away like trash and he was the best dog. I want to plant some mint. I didn’t realize it was so pretty. I miss my momma banana bread. She made it for me all the time. Enjoy the beautiful snow
Manacled is my favorite, it completely broke me. I want to do a chronological reread 😅
You should read Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love. Total opposite of manacled if you need a pick me up but still super good :)
Yes I love the Mortifying Ordeal!! It's such a good read
There is a RSC all male production of Twelfth Night that really brings it to life. Its one of my favourite Shakespeare plays.
The second you said Dramione I knew it was Manacled 😭
Sometimes when Calcifer has a close-up I forget whose cat he is and think for a minute he's my cat :)
i feel like the only person on the internet who didn’t enjoy manacled lol
i’m getting emily wilde’s encyclopaedia of faeries for christmas :D can’t wait to read it too
Oh god not Manacled! 😂
❤
MANACLED GETTING THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES
Juniper and Thorn is one of my favourite books but it's definitely polarising 😅
On the other hand, Emily Wilde was a DNF for me 😂 (I'm definitely in the minority there 😅)
when you were talking about twelfth night, all i could think about was She’s The Man. 😅
You guys have to watch Shes the Man again once your done with he book
Manacled???? That teared me apart sobs
I didn’t much like Juniper, it missed all the marks for me in terms of gothic tension, and I couldn’t reconcile with the writing style.
Please please do finish Juniper and Thorn! I love it so much, it's one of my favorite books of all time and I hope you at least like it enough for it to be like 3.5 stars 🤣 I think it is just so good and I loved every second of it 🤌🏽 currently screaming, crying, throwing up, and rolling on the floor in agony over the fact that you want to DNF it but that's okay 🤣🤭 I hope you do end up liking it! 🥰
