I think Paul definitely had the name Eleanor Rigby in his head while writing the song because he and John use to hang about in that area of the church AND if you look to the right of the grave about 4 along and 2 rows in front there is also another grave with the name McKenzie on it, and the name is also used in the song (father McKenzie) also noted in the song is the line Eleanor Rigby… buried along with her name, and noted on the grave it says Eleanor Rigby the beloved wife of Thomas Wood… so she was buried with her name, her own name!

No-one new Ms Rigby, and Paul had no idea she was lonely!!! It is fantasy. The statue depicting a bag lady is his imagination. She might have been rich, successful and from a wealthy family for all we know! Who is to say she sat on park benches, looking scruffy and falling asleep? @@johncuddihy5236

Another very interesting video. I don't know where I heard it before but it sticks in my mind that Elinor Rigby really existed.Well someone obviously did as it is written on a gravestone for everyone to see .It can't be a coincidence that a Mackenzie is nearby.
Auntie Mimi's house in Sandbanks was demolished sometime ago and another house has been built on that site. It would be interesting to know why her ashes were scattered in Dorset .

She got tired of tourists visiting their house in Liverpool, so John said he would buy her a house somewhere else, and she chose Dorset. The new building in AWFUL!!! It looks like 1970s swimming baths.

I think it's Jackonory on McCartney's story, probably to direct away from the Rigby family

I just think there was a spiritual dimension to the Beatles story. No band shuck the world like those 4 boys from Liverpool. There talent and legacy is timeless. They were also on a spiritual quest and there music is imbued with the esoteric. Whether it was made up by Paul or it was subconsciously remembered is neither here or there. What matters is that the song thankfully exists for us all to admire and listen too. There’s so many other mystical stories around there songs it’s simply incredible.
    Great video and channel.x

I think your comment portrays the manifestation of a prickly primary school teacher. Also why not comment on the subtext rather than the spelling?😂. You are so anal!! Your the kind of person who if presented with an original classic song would say “did you know that song was written in the key of A”.

I think Eleanor Rigby must be a rare name or other possible models would have been suggested. Also the location which Paul and John had visited. It would be a remarkable coincidence, but they can and do happen. I can't see a reason why Paul would lie about his inspiration. Interesting anyway.

I think its just sheer coincidence that a grave in the churchyard bears the name Eleanor Rigby. Would Paul really be going around a cemetery during his teen years and installing the name in his head to recall it 8 or 9 years later when he wrote the song. Maybe the grave thing would have more credence if the actual name on the stone was more prominent, like at the top of the headstone. But its halfway down and very missable. So for me, its no more than a fanciful story that tugs at Beatle fans heartstrings.

I think so as well. It is in the middle of the row, half way down the stone, not even significant. They used to smoke or take drugs there as teens, he might have seen it, but it is unusual it stuck, and he had no idea she was lonely either! As far as songwriting goes, Dolly Parton wrote Jolene about the cashier her husband fancied, but she said the name came from a girl who asked for her autograph, it went round in her head and she linked the two together, so I suppose you can get inspiration from distant things or past memories, and make a song from it.

Yes the person in the grave is a real person but did Paul McCartney use the name from that grave or as he said from the actress/business
