  • National swimmer Joseph Schooling will reunite with former coach and mentor Sergio Lopez in a bid to regain his mojo and retain his gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Looking leaner and more toned, the Singaporean spoke candidly about dealing with recent criticisms about his weight and why he is heading to the United States to train under Lopez.

The fact that he is so strong mentally already put himself above the people firing at him. They are so petty, the comment makes no harm to him.
I guess this is a beautiful example of drawing a clear line of difference between "do something big and be proud" and "make noises and yet empty".

He knew the competition, he knew they were coming up after him. Probably if he had been swimming sub 49’s and then the olympics hit him with 3rd to 4th place in the finals, then that’s alright. But this dude literally swam last in his heat!!! He gave up, he lost his hunger. He did not train the way he did for Rio for the past 5 years and it shows. If he really wanted to win, he would block out everyone, haters or fans, and he would focus on himself. But instead he’s letting the gold get to his head and out on advertisements and basking in the glory as a “hero”. A hero does something out of the reason that he/she doesn’t expect recognition. 2016 Schooling was a hero who loved his sport and trained to win, he didn’t let anyone get to his head, but after that, he changed and it clearly shows through all the previous races after 2016.

More concerned about his height though. Why did he lie? No way he is 184cm tall, no way. When he stood beside Lee Hsien Loong, he was clearly shorter than him, about 5cm shorter. (FYI, Lee Hsien Loong is listed 183cm tall). For Schooling, it's arguable 179cm is really the most I'd go with. Above 180cm? I would totally rule it out, it is too high and hugely inflated. Seriously, I really appreciate it if athletes and sportsman are honest about their height, and also claiming a reasonable figure.

Çomplacency sets in, Consistency disappears! After winning the 2016 Rio Olympic gold, schooling became proud, rested on his laurels, did not keep fit and practise, eat too much, became lethargic, grew fat n gained weight, to His own detriment and lost His competitive edge. Therefore, he now is unable to produce his gold winning streak in Swimming anymore. He failed to make the semi-final stage, finishing badly at 6th. What a far cry from the rest of his previous losing competitors! Shameful! The saying of "Pride goes before a fall" proved very true! Get out of your schooling and into graduation mode!
