  • Red Bull is famous for extreme stunts. In this risky 'plane swap' stunt, two pilots were supposed to swap planes mid-air. Unfortunately, only one pilot was succesful while the other aircraft crashed. Both pilots are safe.

🟡 Two extremely lousy pilots. Period. Okay, they messed it up because they did it for the clicks and a couple of thousand bucks. And that's the reason why they are lousy pilots. They are totally unprofessional. The two hot shots are proud enough to show us how stupid the are (sorry, guys) : BFD. And why the .... would you do something like that, jumping out of a perfectly working airplane? Are you bored oder just ... slow? IMHO you guys are lousy "pilots", indeed. I don't know anything about skydiving, parachutes or helicopters, so I may not be aware of some important factors here- but to me it seems like the propellers (don't even know if that's what they're called on helicopters) would be continually blowing everything downward onto the ground. It's tough enough to watch for all the planes flying horizontally let alone people and things falling vertically in this airspace though the jump planes do announce when a jump is in progress. Also despite what has been written about the area being remote, this area has several ranches, farms, a prison, and a few subdivisions near the Eloy airport. They had spotters to confirm sterile airspace, and it was a severe clear VFR day. The planes were down in less than 1 minute. The planes had automatically deploying safety parachutes. The pilots had parachutes. The planes had tons of engineering done on their chute systems and speedbrakes. Tons of money and planning went into making this happen, money that supported the American economy. I have no doubts that their safety plan passed the insurance underwriters scrutiny. The FAA had no place to block this while any fool can fly up to 17,500' in a paramotor without a single lesson or understanding of airspace.

Note to other pilots and stuntmen: Stunts like this should ALWAYS be performed where the Sacramento FSDO has jurisdiction. They don’t care, and they won’t care. You don’t even need a medical to commercially fly in Sacramento. You don’t even need an operating certificate to operate. The Sacramento FAA won’t investigate, they won’t follow through. In fact, if this stunt was performed in Sacramento FAA jurisdiction, they wouldn’t even leave the office.

Wilful non compliance of the regulations. Pilots should always be bound by rules & regulations in the interest of public safety. I find it incomprehensible how people would consciously disregard regulators for the sake of video likes & channel subscriptions. Especially as mentioned above that the FAA has continually denied the waiver to do this stunt.
My advice to aspiring pilots would be to stick to videos that help you get & most importantly retain your license. No stunt will ever be worth losing your license over. We already have so many possible stumbling blocks that we hurdle to continually practice the privileges of our license.

Hope they enjoyed that flight because that will be their last one. Pretty stupid from numerous perspectives, and yes, they did do this after the FAA denied their request. Trevor Jacobs just lost his license for his stunt and hopefully these two are next. I would hope there are some criminal charges that can and will be brought against those involved.

"Something" went wrong? Maybe if Luke trimmed the plane accounting for a CG shift of about 450lbs (plus a box of a dozen donuts he stuffed in his shirt) upon exiting the aircraft it would have been a more stable descent. 🤦

This 182 was out of control the minute he left. It could have flown into anything. If I were FAA these guys would never touch an airplane’s controls. We have to do the opposite of what Red Bull expects with these continuing Aviation stunts. They’re going to get people killed.

What's next for them is getting their wings clipped. It would have been cool if they had FAA permission. They were told not to and did it anyway.
