It’s like someone took a song from my childhood and massively improved it.
The addition of new lines, alternates and improvements, is just the *rum’s spice* that fixes this song, and affixes its place in history.

This is fun but it doesn't "improve" the original. Many of the clever alliterations and even basics rhymes in the original are replaced here, the replacements certainly aren't on par even allowing for the (inconsistent) sea shanty theme. Why would a sailor want a home on a hill!!!

I have heard nothing but horrible reviews from CZcams commentors, google searches, and recommendation channels, so I didn't bother checking them out till now. this was surprisingly good. side note, my mother has apparently been listening to "you remind me" for a long time now and I just didn't know? I was not expecting massive nostalgia vibes from a band I've never heard of before two weeks ago. that song was on her playlist for years.

I'm genuinely curious because I've never heard of nickelback before: is this on purpose and credited or are they plagiarising like literally taking the melodies and selling them under their own name?
@@ilirose6456 most sea shanty melodies are based from real shanty songs, as late as the 1900s. Thus, none are protected by copyright law, as most originate from Australia, particularly The Wellerman, and they have a copyright law of 50 years. So practically anyone can use sea shanty tunes unless it is a pure, recent original piece. :)

Just found about this song today through Emily D. Baker, although I've been a fan of Nickleback. Past 3 years had been all about pregnancy and taking care of my child. Anyway... As soon as my 2 year old kid heard the song, her eyes lit up (just like how it would whenever she hears her favorite nursery rhymes). Then, she proceeded to watch the video with me, on repeat, without changing channel. I think she was fascinated with the melody and the letters (she loves her alphabets). She cannot read words yet, only letters, and English is not our 1st language, so I think we're good for now. 😂😍😍

Alot of the rythm is inspired off of other sea shanties, the first 35 seconds is the wellerman and a couple if places after that and at 1:30 they use some of the drunken sailor sea shanty
