Supercell is likely the most recognizable mobile game developer in the world. Virtually everyone knows about Clash of Clans and Clash Royale, yet, over the past couple of years, Supercell has lost much of the momentum that they once had. In fact, both Clash of Clans and Clash Royale only receive a fraction of the interest that they used. And to make things worse, Supercell’s new games aren’t doing that well either. In fact, Supercell has even shut down some of their newer titles due to a lack of interest. You could chalk this up to people simply getting bored of their games, but I think there are more factors at play. First of all, a lot of people were starting to feel to Supercell’s games were pay-to-win. If you buy gems in Clash of Clans or Clash Royale, you would get a massive advantage against players who didn’t. This isn’t true with many newer games like Fortnite where paying for accessories or skins gives you no advantage. So, many players preferred to play the latter. Aside from feeling disadvantaged, many casual gamers flocked to social media from mobile gaming. Supercell’s acquisition by Tencent didn’t really make this situation any better. This video explains what happened to Supercell and the future of Supercell.

The reason I left COC was because they shut down global.
First they divided the global into regions, like Indians were separated, Chinese were separated, even when they had the same language.
Also, they made the game a bit for "subscription based", and kid's play for new players.

I really don't think their 3 biggest games (coc, cr, bs) are dead at all, and it's completely natural for interest to die down after getting massively hyped in their early years. Whether or not supercell will "die" is something that's hard to tell

It's dead as other ppl said, 95% population leaving. Which means if they got 100millions, they still got 5millions player and it's still impressive
Their game are hella slow to get update. Coc for example, have ded update era before sc decided to pick it up again (or maybe bcs their chinese investor said so, they got bought by chinese)
Cor updates are slow too and they keep rerunning stuff. Brawl stars are the one that still fresh though they become more and more repetitive
Sc have 3 upcoming projects but all of em are copying other game with lil twist

    • @dashinking
      @dashinking Před rokem +19

Doesn't really prove theyre dead. Slow update cycles don't necessarily relate to player amounts or the developer's interest in the games - the games are already 5-10 years old so obviously a lot aren't going to stay forever. But the fact that the games' communities are still going strong shows they aren't fizzling out anytime soon. The teams working on each game (current or upcoming) are also separate so seeing a lack of originality or a cancellation doesn't spell disaster for the whole company.

The metrics used in this video aren’t accurate. Google Trends/Socialblade are not an accurate representation of a game’s popularity, as typically spikes only occur when an update is announced, not when there is a surplus of players actively playing. Thus, viewership could be low but player counts can still remain healthy.
These games are nowhere near “dead”, just not near their peak levels. Still pulling millions of views with update announcements is amounts that practically no other exclusively mobile games can achieve.
Claiming that “half the game is just walls” is not an accurate representation, it’s not as if you sit there slowly watching the wall upgrade for half the time you play; just that your resources are spent on that.
A game could cost millions to max out and still be easy to max out without spending money; amount of money to max out is not indicative of how much it takes to max out, buying resources directly with IAPs tend to be overpriced.
A game is P2W not when it takes years to max out, but rather because it actively puts you at a significant disadvantage compared to opponent(s).

    • @arkcliref
      @arkcliref Před rokem +9

yeah. I'm currently at TH9 (with a TH10 rush to max) and I can say to you, while walls take half of the game, 95% of that one half is just farming which requires brain. (the other 5% is waiting for builders to get done on their upgrades. Yes, other buildings are needed to be upgraded)
For P2W, I think of this as, if you can gem to improve your defenses for a short amount of time. Afterall, Clash of Clans is a STRATEGY game, if your strategy is horrible, even a maxed TH14 will not save you (though it can help a lot), also it's P2W if you are clashing gemmers, which isn't the case. It's not a disadvantage not to be a gemmer. The closest this game has to a P2W feature is the season pass, which is not a good idea for the players, but then again the previous points.
Also, the game ain't dead, it's like saying a Billionaire that turned Millionaire is poor.

"An easy $5000 dollars from each player". Cmon, no need to lie. I might be considered one of these top players and nobody directly gems walls. Even if Supercell is dying, the p2w argument (for COC) is dumb and usually made by salty noobs.
First, what is winning? Maxing your base? Maxing your base isn't really a competition. You can only see it that way if your main goal in the game is having the clout associated with being maxed. In the core gaming loop (which is multiplayer attacks and regular clan wars), you win by being a good attacker.
So if winning is being able to three star, casual players suck because they don't learn good strategies, not because they don't spend enough money.
Still, it is a MAJOR problem that it takes years to max from the beginning, all while new updates are still releasing. It is very possible to max without paying anything, but you gotta be in it for the long haul. But it just isn't accurate to describe the situation as pay to win.
The problem here is that there is too much content for new players to catch up on in a reasonable amount of time. Even if the core gaming loop is great, they always feel too disconnected from the new content and the experiences they see on CZcams. It is inherent to any long running base building game. To my knowledge, Clash of Clans is the first to experience it and I don't know if any similar game has a good solution.

Supercell will always hold a place in my heart. I was never really interested in coc or cr because i wasnt really into strategy games. But, Brawl Stars was amazing for me, it was incredibly fun and i literally couldnt stop playing it. It was so fun and it was nothing like i had ever played before. But years passed and I felt like the game was a bit repitive so i eventually took a month or so long break to take some time off and recover from burnout. When i returned, i was extremely excited to get back in, i bought the brawl pass and started pushing, and after awhile i gained like 4k+ trophies in just a week or two. But quickly i started getting burntout again and i havent played since. Even if i dont return the game ever again, I will still watch the youtubers and keep up with the community every now and then.

I have a f2p account, and I got maxed level 10 walls in under a week of grinding. They used to be 1 mil, now they're 200k. No one will directly gem walls, it's the worst possible way to spend gems. I think one of the big problems is how supercell is adding so many different things to the game. First it was the builder base, then the trader, then war leagues, then clan games, then super troop, then the clan capital. There's just so much stuff, and it seems like they're running out of ideas.

It's not p2w as many say it's just pay to progress...but if you spend tons of money just to reach the highest level without the experience and feel of the game then u are no good...it takes good dedication, planning and of course some grinding...but the developers have made the game way too easier to push past the initial levels...and they do add 4 major updates every year...which is crazy for a 10 year old game.
It's definitely not as popular as it used to be but the game do still hold a pretty large player base...and some just take a break from the game, which even I did many times in the past.
Overall a pretty good game and still going strong for It's age.

Man I was crazy for COC during 2013 till 2018 days, I think that's the time I reached the town hall lvl of TH 12 (maxed Th 11) (I had 2 rushed th 12 bases basically for troop donations) also in june 2018 I reached legend league (just for that month after that I started losing interest), I had a clan with people from all over the world (some of them I became best friends with) but then I just lost interest after a while as I started PUBG mobile, at the end I just changed all the accounts and passwords and sold the account to one of my friends for 10k ruppes, at the time 120 dollars. (Now it's like 50 dollars lol inflation fûçked Pakistan in 5 years), but man those were some of the best times I ever had.

I've playing clash royale for a 5 years now and back in 2017 there was a new update every 2/3 months, nowadays updates are coming up only twice a year, so that clearly shows that the games is slowly dying. Also most of my (in-game and irl) friends stopped playing supercell games.

Losing popularity on google searches doesn't mean "slowly dying".
Their user rates have gone up every year until 2021 and there's no official data of 2022 yet.

I disagree, the company is still innovating and taking risks. During a press conference in February, Supercell announced they launched a side company called SuperStarzstudios, the purpose of this division is to develop adult games whether that be for gag games or pleasure. Although not much about the projects was shared, one of the games involves players milking a horses pe,nis for sperm and the person who fills their jar up the most wins. There was also another game that's a fusion between black jack and checkers that would have betting opitions and different tiers.

I respect your opinion but I completely disagree. Supercell is very much doing well and they're earning loads from games. Plus, as a town hall 9 the game is honestly not that pay to win. I haven't spent a penny and getting gems is honestly not that difficult. Yeah, they make a few weird decisions here and there like adding gears to Brawl Stars and not reworking them upon demand but I still think they try their best to listen to their community.

They did, but not their parents company. They never take any of those game seriously anymore especially BS. As the vid said, tencent was having many game company under it's hand too. So, SC never become their priorities (as if tencent owned SC just bcs their past records, like how ppl collects stuff for collections)
Although sadly it was also tencent who make a breakthrough changes in COC so the game need less waiting and gain more update

  • @fawkewe

The problem with Clash Clans is it wasnt play to win. It was pay to *play* . Clash Royale is an example of a play to win game, as you can get all the cards for free somewhat easily if needed but, if you want to save time and effort you can give them money. Clash of Clans is quite literally unplayable at a certain point do the absolute asinine times it takes to do anything. It costs $1000s just to progress making it unplayable without spending money. And theres never a point where you need to stop spending money either unlike Clash Royal, or actually most games.
Imo, clash of clans was only successful because it was an early mobile game. If it came out today it would never have been success because of how unfair it is.

I feel like the main problem with supercell games is that over the years they have been becoming more and more pay-to-play. As in now they have added so many more things such as pass Royale that many people buy to level up 100 times faster than players who don’t pay money

I strongly disagree to the video uploder . Maybe you were sponsored/paid by other competitors to underrate and to say things like that. Maybe after few days you will bring the name of that game in your upcoming videos for which you were paid and you will exaggerate and glorify it so that they will get few more users for it.
