Thank you for this tutorial. I've veered clear of patterns for a long time, but recently I fell in love with plaid that I can't make without a pattern. I've watched several pattern reading videos and I'm glad I did. You're the only one, so far, who suggested reading or watching the whole tutorial first. I'll be reviewing the whole thing first from now on to avoid wasting time like I have in the past. Thanks again!

Glad we were able to help! Yes, we do recommend watching a video all the way through first before making the project. Then you can always do the project and still have the video playing and you can rewind or pause as necessary! We have a lot of Better Beader episodes that you may find helpful, feel free to browse! www.potomacbeads.com/how-to/better-beader/

Thanks for these Better Beader videos-they are always filled with good information and are easy to understand. I do find, the more I become familiar with the pattern-reading, watching, over and over-the better I do when I try to stitch it myself

EXCELLENT tutorial Allie! You're very easy to understand and gave a very thorough class. I think I'm finally ready to follow a peyote graph pattern after beading for 3 years lol. Thank you so much!

I have been intimidated to use any pattern and I did not know anyone that would have explained it like you have. I thank you truly for sharing how to read different patterns. Now when I get a pattern I will try it and use your advice on asking for help if needed. I love the better beading series. I am a beginner/intermediate beader. Looking forward to your next video.

As I am a relatively new beader I love these videos. They teach me so much. Also there is a lack of bead stores and teachers available in my area. Is it possible to look at apiece of jewellery and know how the design starts. I see so many beautiful pieces that I love but have know idea how to begin. Is this something you may be able to discuss on your Better Beader videos please.

Dear Ally, I’m a massive fan! Really appreciate and enjoy these videos. I struggled a bit with this one. Only because the navy and pen were impossible to see at times. Also I was confused as to whether I was working up, or downward direction with beads, meaning, could I look away, perhaps drop the piece and then halfway through start going in wrong direction. Once established this isn’t a problem it is usually obvious in which direction you are travelling but in these early stages where the first two or three rows are the most difficult and where more mistakes are likely to happen. I’m confused about whether or not I could accidentally go in the wrong direction and where this particular pattern was so dark you couldn’t really see the pen and you couldn’t really see the beads, so just wondering if you could do that first section maybe with large beads and possibly Lighter chart/contrasting pen. thank you ;))

If we want to design our own pattern I have heard that you could put it on graph paper which sounds brilliant. However with the peyote stitch the "blocks" or beads aren't side by side like in graph paper. Is there a paper where the blocks are offset like you would find in a peyote pattern? This might be a stupid question and I apologize but am new to beading. I've done several bracelets and have watched TONS of CZcams videos, especially from Potomac Beads. Thanks you.

Hi Beth, if you google peyote template, you will find them all over the web. Just choose the one you want and print out a few copies, then you can play with designs and colors!

It was a pattern that Nathan printed out for me years ago, when I was still learning how to read peyote patterns. You can download a peyote template and print it out, then you can design your own pattern to however many beads wide you would like.

I have two tips for those who watch or read this, 1 square stitch is like loom, but you don't need a loom. 2 Copy the pattern first and than use your pen(cil). And I have a question for you, can you make a better beader episode about how to undo part of your work when making a mistake, in severale stitches, please?

I understand how to follow the colours in a picture peyote pattern, but my eyes play tricks on me, due to the alternating rows, and I always end up making a mistake that I discover a few rows later, even when I'm very methodical about counting each row! Patience I guess! 😃
