  • How to Start Peyote Stitch - Seed Beading - Jewellery Making Tutorial
    In this tutorial, I will show you how to start a basic even count Peyote seed beading stitch. Working in even peyote is the starting point for most seed beaders. But it can be tricky to get started if you're not used to handling smaller beads. This even count peyote will show you how to get started giving you a marker to work that first row. Once you have worked the length of your bracelet, you can remove the first row of with the marker beads. Your bracelet will look beautiful and no one will know you had a helping hand at the start ;)

    Excellent tutorial! The marker beads in a different color made all the difference for me. ...I usually don't watch videos if the person has pretty nails because I find they talk too much & flutter their hands about to show off their manicure, BUT you did not do this. You got straight to the lesson, no unnecessary nail shots and you are easy to follow. Thank you!! (Besutiful nails by the way - looks like black opals).

    Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for to start with. I started with wire working, then beading wire. I want to hand stitch, but the pattern directions just boggle my mind. LoL. So I just tried a loom, and love the look.. but not all the loose ends and clasps. You give great directions. I think I will feel comfortable trying other techniques, after. Thanks!

    • @katieparkerjewellery7277
      @katieparkerjewellery7277  Před 2 lety +6

      Hi, thank you 😊 to remove the marker beads just slide the stop bead off and then pull the thread out until the marker beads have dropped away. Once they have gone you can use the thread to add a clasp or work the thread up and down following the thread path to secure it. I hope this helps. 😊

      @@katieparkerjewellery7277 I learnt peyote several years ago and, as for most people especially when using size 11 beads those first three rows take a lot of concentration until you can settle into the relaxing pace of working on all the rows thereafter. Having marker beads is a simple and excellent idea. Thank you! The other problem I find in getting that third row completed is when - despite my efforts to avoid this happening - the beads twist around and are then no longer in the right position. I am working on an 8 bead peyote strip ATM, and it was only on my third attempt that I was able to proceed with row 4. Do you have suggestions of how to overcome this?

    Hi Katie I love this bracelet but I'm a little confused are you using seed beads or delicas for this
    I know peyote is delicate normally but had to ask

  • @bigcityjunglecatenvisageth1422

    Very good video/tutourial. Clear & easy to understand. I like the look of this peyote stitch but have never tried it yet. I have done so much of the square-stitch, with Miyuki 4mm cubes, where all the beads get threaded though about 3-4 (or multiple) times - but I've noticed with the Peyote stitch the beads just get threaded through about twice only (& with very fine thread). In this case could this mean that very lightweight beads (ie, just 3mm/8.0s at the max) should be used for this stitch, as opposed to the heavier type 4mm glass cubes?

    • @katieparkerjewellery7277
      @katieparkerjewellery7277  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, thank you 😊 I’ve not tried Peyote with cube beads myself. I doubt you would get the fluid movement in the finished piece as the rounds allow this. I have used this stitch technique with rounds and Delicas of all sizes and it works well.

      @@katieparkerjewellery7277: Thank you for responding, and I appreciate the info you have given too. I have just tried with the peyote stitch for the first time, with small round seed beads, following your inspiring tutorial - and I discovered I can do it. Maybe I will also experiment this stitch with very small cubes just to see if it works - or otherwise I will always be wondering. Many thanks and best wishes.

      @@bigcityjunglecatenvisageth1422 I have not used cube beads, but triangular beads look great in herringbone stitch, another relatively easy stitch to learn. Katie may have posted a video on it. I have only just found this channel, and I am about to check out what else she has covered in other videos.

      It's so great being a beader. Makes me feel so proud of the finished pieces when after they have panned out just the way I envisaged. Makes me wonder what I was doing with my life before I started beading (Lmao) 😀😁😂
      I am a great fan of the cubes (4mm). They make very lovely bracelets and seem to work out best with the square stitch. But not sure if I could work with triangles. Maybe might attempt it somewhere in the future, IDK.

      Answering in case you are still wondering. Using a 23-25 gm tube of size 8 beads should be ample for a bracelet. If in doubt, choose a colour you really like and buy two tubes as the width will also determine how many beads you use. You’ll then know for future reference.
