  • Sawmilling is my passion. About a year ago, I added hydraulics to my Norwood HD36 Sawmill. This doubled my productivity, and makes it easier on the back!

Love your video on adding hydraulics to your hd36. I just bought an hd36 and it’s being delivered tomorrow after 5 weeks of waiting and watching SMill videos.
I took other SMill videos saying to buy the hydraulics if you can afford them. I’m 82 and not the strongest guy around. Your video was excellent advice and explains what I need to do to assemble my mill shortly. Thank you for all your efforts. Lane

Yes!!! Keep the videos on this mill coming. I own the same mill and I can’t wait to be able to add the hydraulics! The whole reason I chose this mill. Also…. Your video editing is on point.

I see this video was posted close to a year ago. So how have the hydronics held up? Any complaints? Any failures? Any modifications?

Hi, Logan, That was a great video, looking forward to watching you run the mill with the hydraulics. Good solution for the trailer lights. I bashed up a few before adding a plate and mounting magnetic tail lights. You might consider swapping out your winch cable for Amsteel synthetic rope. I've found it a lot easier to use, no stretch, so it doesn't snap back if it does break or lets loose, and just as strong as steel cable. Did you keep the manual clamp? Looks like it would be hard to work in with all the hydraulic lines.

Logan, Great video. Helped me a lot because my mill didn't come with the manual for the hydraulic engine/pump/valve system. Lots of missing parts in my total order. I saw in your video that you had an online manual for the hydraulics. Can you tell me where you got that?

Logan. Thank u for sharing your experience. I have an HD38. Only have about 50 hours on it. I am preparing to start sawing some very large pine logs. 35-40” x 16 feet. I want to buy the hydraulic kit to help with rotating the logs on the deck. Will the log Turner rotate logs that large ya think?

Hey there buddy how are ya? I have the hd36v2, I bought it for the same reason as you. I will up grade as soon as I’ve been able to make enough with the mill to pay for the up grades. I love my my mill!!!!! We have huge pines and cedars here on the western slope of the Sierras. The log lifter is much needed!!!! Question is the pump engine loud sitting right in front of you? I was thinking maybe good to put on other end of the mill and run longer hoses to the controls? Me just thinking. Any way thanks buddy for sharing. I can’t wait to get back home and start milling again I have a mountain of logs waiting to process. I’m in the Philippines right now visiting my wife’s family. Take care and GOD bless you and yours.

Certainly! To be fair - I'd call it more than a toy! I'd estimate that my mill paid for itself in 12 months! Serious side-hustle for someone if they'd like!

Hello, did you ever get your log dogs to go up and down at the same time?
I just installed Hyd on my new HD36 and the dogs don’t go up/down at the same time. Thank you, Lane

Alway remember, if the motor is struggling that means you're over working the hydrolic system, you'll blow a seal doing that

I own a norwood hd36. It has been nothing but a headache and norwood offers no support. After they got my money they essentially wanted nothing to do with me, wouldn't return calls. They blamed it all on covid. Bunch of BS. To anyone considering purchasing a norwood let me offer some advice. Either purchase a woodland mills with upgrades or save up for a nice used woodmizer.

I got a Woodmizer!! No assembling BS and No reallingment, just normal Maintenance and some Roller Bearing replaced. Since 2012 …Except the KOHLER EFI Command Pro Engine it’s a “ Trow away Engine”!!
