This sawmill upgrade includes a Hydraulic Log Loader, Hydraulic Log Clamping System, Hydraulic Roller Toe Boards, Hydraulic Log Turner, Power Feed, and Power Sawhead.
    By upgrading your sawmill to a hydraulic system, you can save time and energy while maximizing efficiency and precision. Assembling your own sawmill can also be a great way to get to know your machine and become a pro sawyer. But if you ever have questions when assembling or operating your Norwood sawmill, feel free to contact us. We're here to help.

    Very informative video. However, with all these nuts and bolts, I have a number of questions. Why do you not use any lock tight and torque wrenches during initial installation to keep nuts from back off during vibrations from day to day use of using a sawmill? Seems like an important missing step.

      Thank you for the question Carl Marks, Dave is a legend at assembling and running the Norwood sawmills. Some people do use blue lock tight on some of the hardware and some use gray anti-seize for other items.

      Good observation! The flange nuts & bolts have ridges that bite into the metal. They're shaped in such a way that they go in easily, but don't back out on their own. Nuts with the nylon inserts will stay put, with no problem, and the hydraulics go together with compression fittings, and I've never had one come loose on the mill, tractor, or log splitter. You are right, in that they do need to be adequately torqued down, but, especially on fittings with "O" rings, going too tight can damage the seal, and they will leak. If you do use Loc-Tite, be sure to use the blue, so you can take it back apart if you ever need to. Best of luck with your mill. Once you get the hang of it, you'll love it!

    I plan on getting an HD 38 with an electric motor. Does an electric motor unit also have an electric hydraulic motor unit?

    • @daveboyt6810
      @daveboyt6810 Před rokem +1

      Good question. You'll have to check with Norwood about that, but it shouldn't be too hard to adapt an electric motor to it if the rpms aren't too far off. Are you going with 3-phase? Your's would be the first electric 38 that I know of.

      Same plan here. Norwood tells me They can sell me everything but the motor and I will have to buy it elsewhere.

    Nice. But terribly expensive.

    • @woodlandwrench
      @woodlandwrench Před rokem +1

      Hydraulics are generally very expensive. Their prices aren't bad in comparison, you wouldn't save much building it from scratch yourself, at least not with brand new components.

      @@woodlandwrench True enough! I just had a couple of cylinders rebuilt and new hoses for the old tractor. I shoulda been sitting down when I got the bill!

      It's all a matter of economics. Compared to the expense (and paperwork) of hiring some help, it's a not-brainer!

      @Dave Boyt Yeah, when you're not used to hydraulic bills, then you're in for an eye opener. I recently ordered two small double acting cylinders, 30mm rod, 40cm extension, $800.
