- Recently finished upgrades include new faster sleds with working headlights and taillights. They also have on-board computers to prevent bumping into the sled in front of you.
This is the first alpine coaster in the world to use led tracer lights along the track layout and what a difference it makes between riding during the day and at night. The attraction is opened until 11pm weekdays and until midnight on weekends, so be sure to go back after dark and use the discount re-ride offer for even more fun.
Check out the on-ride POV video we posted to see what it's like to be on this fun alpine coaster during the daytime: • Smoky Mountain Alpine ...

The Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster is located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Also called mountain coasters, these gravity-operated rides installed on a hill or mountain utilizes a track made of stainless steel tubes. The sleds are designed to not come off of the track during the ride and riders control their speed by applying or releasing brakes connected to levers on each side of the sled.

imagine seeing a figure standing still right next to the track looking at you right as you pass by
Yep, I was thinking you could shoot a movie on this coaster. A thriller or horror film, maybe a slasher killer or a Bigfoot destroying the coaster and you theme
Or a huge bear jumping out at you from the woods. The last thing you see is its slavering fangs and powerful claws and then... blackness.
I was thinking exactly the same...
Around halloween time rail runner at anakeesta and rocky top mountain coaster have a haunted mountain coaster.
I just went on it and no figure
That is even BETTER at night! Love all the colored lights.
Yh
Nora Dennis yap
Me too!
Why would anyone choose to ride it in the daytime after seeing that? 🤘
YEAH!
I have no idea why I was just sat here watching the entire video.
Every time it went to a flat inbetween lift hills, I was like "ah, here's the downhill at last!" but then it was like noooope. It became kind of funny to me trying to guess when it would finally be the real downhill. That's why I kept watching, at least. Talk about dramatic buildup....
Dan Drum because it's a great video
Dan Drum me neither
ikr... 🤦🏽♀️
same
OMG it's so hypnotic with the coloured lights and the city in the distance.
During the first half, you can take a nap.
No joke! I almost turned to something else! Then it started speeding up!
they should rename this rainbow road.
A A do you know what mario kart is?
@A A Are you familiar with mario kart?
It does look like rainbow road! I was just thinking that.
@A A oh my god hold this fat ass L
@A A it's from Mario kart you numpty
I bet it's creepy at night all alone in the middle of the woods like that. Anything could be watching you from the darkness.
Lindsay Grove lol right
creepy you men, nightmares just in your head
Killer in woods .
It is but it is fun trust me if you go it is so fun I went there
Slender?
Here we go! Here we go! (2hrs later) Here we gooo!!
Gotta love that long-ass lift hill. The actual coaster starts at 5:23
Yeah. Over half the video was lift hill.
If they just used a chair lift to get to the top like European alpine coasters, they could have engineered a much longer downhill run than little more than a minute. I'd pay more for better downhill run than having most of the ride "wasted" having my azz drug up a huge lift hill . They could have utilized that lift hill area for more downhill space.
They said it would take about 7-8 minutes and I never realized it was that long until this video. From the moment I left the station to the unload area it only felt like 4 minutes.
Conveyor belt sushi for bears.
Exactly
I was just thinking that, especially after they stopped having the wooden rails closer to the top. And the ride was soooo slow on the climbs and you'd be trapped in your seat, unable to get away from the bear or big foot
😄😂😆😂 Hilarious comment!!
I find this oddly satisfying
@Mr. Hellas Same lol
very scary at night going up thru those woods. no wild animals around I hope...
Anthony Martinez I thought that I was the only one who thought that was scary.
imagine you're tripping, the lights are already cool and THEN BEARS *FFF*
The bears would probably be scared of the noise from the coasters though
Lol 😂
I was thinking that, too. What if a bear was waiting right by the tracks to take a swipe at the humans as they pass on the coaster.
Honestly I always thought the ride up on this kind of ride is cooler than the ride down.
Honey
How so?
Same
Cooler? Idk what that means, but why?
It's like Mario Kart rainbow road 😍
Right?!
Ik right? It's awsome
It does btw such a fun game I love that Mario Kart is now on our phone
Elías Sánchez V. Yes truth
This looks really unique! I haven't seen anything like it!
Same I don’t know how I feel
This looks beyond epic; I wish we had something like it here in the UK. Definitely one for the bucket list when this stupid virus is finally behind us!
Man this is pretty cool. Makes me want to go back to Pigeon Forge.
The multiple lift hills are so cool. Right when you thought the ride doesn't go up so high, it finds another lift. Really cool touch at night!
Ooh, I’ve never been to Tennessee before but I want to go on this ride, especially at night! I love that you can control the speed too! It looks it’s much fun! 😁💖
it was awesome , my first alpine coaster. being from Maryland we don't have anything like it. Definitely worth it!!
@@Renegade_Zero was my first too! having my home park being six flags great america ive never done a alpine coaster until this one, i loved it
My friend and I were going to ride this together at night one time but when we were already strapped in they told us we couldn't ride together (because we weren't sixteen) so they put us in separate seats and it was so scary going through the woods alone at night lmaoo but super fun
I have never seen a rollercoaster like this before, how amazingly beautiful it is, the entire rollercoaster is all lit up, very beautiful video and thanks very much for sharing!!🎢💯
best roller coaster ive ever seen
At first I thought this was just a child ride.... then it became faster! My approval 😀
Daaaamn that looks badass at night! Creepy af but it would be dope on Halloween
Seems strange without the screams !. Super video :)
True
Alicea WIlcocks
Just went on it and honestly there’s no reason to scream lol
ohhhh i shuld have read the comments first LOL
5:10
I could hear a Sasquatch call in the background clear as day twice!!
Nancy Arellano Well, it’s night time so it’s not Bigfoot.
😂😂
3:22-3:25?
I went on this at night and it was so much fun!
THE RIDE IS EPIC
Wow I love the lighting.
The down hill starts @ 5:17, in case you want to go get a sandwich or use the head or not lose 5 minutes of your life you will never get back.
slow slow slow go more fast
TRUE. What a lousy movie. The lifting goes on and on. BORIING.....
Very hypnotic too.
I could feel them applying the brakes every time they hit a real downhill. You knew it should be going faster but it wasn't.
Good god, this starts out sooooo slow. I thought they filmed it in slow motion.
That was awesome!!!! I still have goosebumps...again.
That's Awesome ! I did see a couple of Shadow Figures in the woods .
Well, once you finally get up there it was a fun ride down!
Oh that is COOL! I love the lights on it! :D I wish more parks had these, They make for a really nice smooth, gentle but fun ride. Great for a kid's first coaster probably. But they can only really be built on hilly terrain so it seems like more ski resorts have them than amusement parks proper.
Beautiful Coaster!
Yeah!!! :)
This would make a good horror story: person goes up at night & just the cart comes back down :)
I love this ride
I go to Tennessee ALL the time for vacation and I've ALWAYS wanted to go on this!
Sydney Cox 2 is this at dolly wood
Seven minutes of therapy. 👍♥️
I've dreamt of a coaster similar to this.
I'm going to Gatlinburg next week, hope to ride on this in day and night :D
Wow i felt like i was really on the ride!!! Fantastic lights, the what's next feeling is awesome. I will be riding at night, beautiful ride!!!
love the lights !
Such a dullsville and achingly slow climb to the top, however the lights look amazing, such a huge help to how pointless the lift hills initially seemed. I was thinking how funny it would be if you got to the top and then they said, "Right, end of the ride lol"
But that ride down is so awesome and the speeds it got at some point looked well worth the climb
While I did wait about 1 and a half hours this was definitely a lot of fun. I had to slow down a bit halfway tho cuz my eyes were watering. lol
Overall I’d give this a 9/10. -1 point because of the wait but I’d say it was worth it.
Just rode it. Awesome!
That speed up at 5:20 is why I watched the whole video
This shade Is my bleach very fast
Went here for memorial day. Man it was so awesome! I recommend going here if you can!
Ngl this looks so much better at night
Truly gorgeous ride and video. Running in the snow, wow!
That was so cool. We need things like this here in the U.K.
I’ve been to this coaster super fun also nice vid
Wasn't sure at first but turned out better than I expected glad I watched the whole video..........
Went on this at night a couple weeks back.... The pay-off makes the long ride up worth it with out a doubt!
That looks like sooooo much FUN!!!
I don't know why, but with the tracks and rainbow colors, this makes me want to play Mario Kart
Pretty cool!
Just ridden this today, I wanna try it at night one time once I come back to pigeon forge someday. Super fun.
Done this at night in Branson Missouri! Awesome af🤘
So much fun! I went at night as well we loved it!!
Looks great
Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry loooooooooooooong coaster ride!! Loved to watch it!
That was freaking awesome. I've always wanted to ride on one of these.
+CoasterForce if you re wondering what type of LEDs those are, they are RGB LEDs with the ability to make any color you want. you can make them orange, green, purple, pink, yellow, dont matter it can make any color except for any shade of grey.
Welcome to lift hill the ride
+Ben Kendall You can skip to 5:18 in the video to see the faster downhill portion of the ride.
+CoasterForce 5 MIN OF UP HILL????
Creepergaming It's America's longest alpine coaster, so it takes quite a while to get to the top.
mighty girl the hero Did you read the video description? ;-)
+CoasterForce bad attitude
I love the ride up into the rainbow lights myself. 😎
That was super cool, just too scary for me. Thank you 😊
Thanks for the awesome night ride video! You are the best!!
Amazing and beautiful!
first time i saw this at night i sang the rainbow road theme and starman theme from mario kart all the way down, it was awsome ^v^
I've rode this before and you're almost vertical when going up. Never rode it at night though. Looks awesome at night!
This was so fun when I went and it was night time
At Jamberoo in Australia there is a half pipe stainless steel bobsled ride and when you get to the bottom of the hill they send your "bobsled" back to the top on the back of the chairlift.
A chairlift is 100 X better than a long lift hill
This looks awesome ....
5:17 About time! Geez, that was the longest lift hill I’ve ever seen!
I did this before at night and it was super fun and cold
I'm back , so this time don't scroll to 5.16 , find time in your day and watch the whole video because the cool lights make all the difference it's mesmerising
Very cool video. Thanks for posting and have a nice day too.
I like this.
I LOVED it at night time and day time.
This looks fun! Smoke a joint riding up and what a rush coming back down!!!
Damn. Awesome idea.
WHOA! Ok those lights really mess with your brain as you go by them . Especially the ones that do that running thing. I dont know if i could handle this at night....Id be so afraid of coming up on someone in front of me suddenly and not being able to see them in time to slow down...cause you know that there is always that one person that has to be stupid and stop. LOL
I fucking love the buildup in this. It looks legit creepy at night like this and with that strange quiet ambience.
Utterly fabulous 😍💖👍
So cool
It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)
Great video well done thank you
The lift left little to the imagination, but the ride itself seems pretty damn awesome!
I think it was a pretty nice ride up during the day. The forest is nice to look at and you can hear the forest animals. And at night its really spooky.
Just keeps going up and up awesome lights though
Here's what really happened!!! This view is from a front seat rider. This train left the station filled with enthusiastic riders. During the early part of the ride, a jeepers creepers type of creature began abducting all the riders behind him. The creature timed his 'grabbings' to coincide with when the train hit louder sections of track. The speeding up of the train is not because it was descending. It was because the front seat rider happened to look back and noticed everyone he left the station with was gone. Out of fear, he stomped through the floor and fred flintstoned that train all the way back to the station. Legend has it he pedalled so hard and fast that when he got back to the station his legs were completely gone all the way up to his knees. Bloody sight it was, but at least the monster didn't get him.
this is so cool
welp, I know what would be a fun mushroom trip.
Would live to see a haunted version for Halloween 🎃😳
There’s no way I would ride this alone especially at night! Creepy scary 😦
"Guitar hero" and me on this roller coaster, I like it! Let's do it again! Personally, I could ride this coaster 24/7!
It's certainly an entirely different perspective doing this at night. Light show. City lights off in the distance. Very cool.
I went here super fun
Well, I finally got to Pigeon Forge to ride Lightning Rod, most likely the most powerful coaster I have ridden. But this post is about my next favorite coaster in the area - Smokey Mountain Alpine Coaster. I too was a bit annoyed by the lengthy lift, but once you ride this, you understand why the lift is so long. Night rides are a must! The eerie solitude of climbing up that mountain in the woods is suspenseful, and quite relaxing. Once it takes off, it feels much faster than it is going, and brakeless rides are exhilarating. I rode others in the area, but this was my favorite
I think I've been on this ride. It was a very long, L-O-N-G time ago though. ;)
Are you finally to the top of the lift hill?
