In general, I’m not a big fan of brooks shoes, but one thing I would say is that their outsoles are absolutely insane. By far more durable than anything else I’ve tried.
Anything seems ridiculously durable for me coming from like 2 years of running in Hokas lol. The outsole on those used to wear away like a pencil eraser. I'm running in Saucony Endorphin Speed 2s now, and I'm super impressed with how they're holding up after around 100 miles. They look brand new.
Just been on my first run in these. Had every intention of doing a 5km bed-in run... Ended up feeling so good that I got a PB in my 10km. Picked these up after your yearly wrap up and appreciate the review!
Brooks Hyperion lineup is the best, but for the very reason you stated-for long distance runner, always training, these can flatten out relatively quickly. But they feel great and are the only shoe that works for me, firmer.
2 runs in my pair. Love them. I enjoy them more than the speed 3s but I think I like the speeds better for short intervals while I like how cruisey the hyperion max feels on tempo runs
Fun shoe to up tempo anything ! I love it when I don’t want a carbon plate to deal with . Surprised how easy to step up the pace and then ease up , intervals are fun in this
Love the review! I recently bought the shoes and its a perfect daily trainer for me and my knees. I also have the saucony endorphin speed 3 for my faster and interval run. The perfect duo for me right now.
Yes indeed 🤞🏻🤞🏻 hopefully they‘ll do much better than 250miles… the Speed 3 certainly does, and with the insane prices on shoes now we can feel confident in the value!!
Great review! I’ve got almost 200 miles on my pair as well, and it definitely still has pop. I just bought a second pair for races and will be using the first one for workouts and long runs until it goes flat. My only dislike of the shoe is that the lacing always ends up a little loose by the end of a longer run. I’ve never had this issue with any other shoe. But if that’s my only dislike, then that’s fine! 😂
Hi Andy, you have been doing more aggressive and longer runs in these shoes so even though you are experiencing signs of flattening of the midsole at 200 miles, those 200 miles have been much tougher for this shoe than your Hyperion tempos over 300 miles. After your marathon you might want to delegate this pair to easy runs and reward yourself a new pair of Hyperion Max for the next training cycle.
Hello Andy, I enjoyed the review, as I have mentioned in a previous comment to another vid, I tried the Hyperion Tempo, did one run and it really bruised the underside of my foot, maybe I didn't give it long enough to bed in... I have the Speed 3 instead, probably need a softer ride, with my sensitive feet 😁
A great shoe, was skeptical and the only reason I'm saying this is because I prefer a softer trainer but certainly this is a gem of a daily trainer; would or has anybody used the Hyperion Max for a Marathon? ..the ride is too firm with no bounce?(some might say). It certainly is very responsive and imo well cushioned and ticks all the boxes.
Agree with others - must be the insole, not the midsole that has your ‘footprint’. just remove the insole and run your hand inside and see if you can feel indentations in the top of the midsole.
Every shoe I ever used has my footprint in the insole within 50mi..you might put in a another insole and see if it's the foam or just the insole..mine have lost their foam as well as the insole at around 100-150 miles..the only shoes I have ever owned that hold up longer are all NB fuel cell shoes..I might wear thru the outsole and trash the insole but the foam still feels as good as ever..
Regarding your problem with feeling a "compressed foot groove" forming... I BET if you simply replaced the insole with a brand new pair from the myriad of shoes u have on hand, it would solve the problem for another hundred miles of wear.
Also - it’s funny you say about the shoe moulding to the foot - absolutely feeling that in my invincible run 2’s after just about 130 miles - really thinking about retiring it - it’s really lost it’s squash & bounce. I know they’re completely different shoes but it’s just a comparison I’ve drawn after you saying that.
Have you got the vaporfly 3 ? Just wondering if you think it’s as good as the next % as know you prefer it to the 2. I think the vaporfly 3 is great I’m still not sure if i like it better the then the first too but the stop watch doesnt lie and I’ve been very fast ( for me ) In the 3 so it’s my race pick from now on
Hi Andy. Have you tried the TOPO Athletics Cyclone 2? I think you will love those shoes. I'm a big fan of Hyperion Tempo and bought Cyclone 2 recently... More pop more cushioning... More everything in less weight!!
Hi Pedro, could you tell me some info about the fit, if You uses same size in the Hyperion Tempo and Cyclone 2, i love the fit in size 9 in my old Hyperion Tempos, and dont know if get a topo if is too really big or is the foot well secured? thks
@@avaticmedia9636 Hi Ava. I use US9.5 in hyperion tempo and US9 in Cyclone 2. The fit in hyperion was perfect to me, a bit of stretch in the upper, padded enough... The fit in cyclone 2 is identical, you can feel the quality, even the laces have quality, with the advantage of a larger toe box. Fit is perfect, no heel slippage, fast cornering is perfect, no loosening through the long runs. The fit in the finish is exactly the same as in start. You will not regret getting Cyclone 2. Hope this helps.
Do we need a serious discussion on durability v price. I would be disappointed if a £160 shoe was not going to go over 500 miles . Glad it' can do many things but most shoes should. Can it really be considered as best shoe with the cost and limited mileage.
Yeah I’ve found unless it’s what I would class as a “max cushion” or “well build” daily trainer then not many go over 300/400 for me these days, I find they’re wearing out a lot faster than they used too!
My issues with the max...developing a hot spot under the forefoot...the tongue always ends up thrown to the side after long runs (wish it was gusseted)...and I definitely feel discomfort on my long runs (compared to the speed 2s)
I have them in the green/ orange colour. Seeing very heavy wear in the heel (225 km). I had the tempos before this and got 600km before I retired them (midsole got very harsh). I’m wondering if the rubber with the orange soles is a different compound to the pair reviewed here. I do love them by the way
Well. Even if you feel your foot groove, this shoe has several millimeters more than the tempo, you are probably only compressing the upper layer. Hopefully at least. I only weigh 59 kg, dont know in pounds but probably 130. That might give me alot more life out of midsoles so im a bit biased.
@pelicanmir no I did not. I did look at them but went for speed 3 which are too soft for track for me. So I'm back looking at a new pair ot track pair now !!

Definitely this shoe is the best overall for me as well. I keep reaching for it in all my runs.
Great details as always! Thanks Andy for the updated review.

Wear and Tear also depends on the user profile. I have used brooks and nike both lasted longer for me.

hm it's not just the insole getting thin? happy easter weekend anyways Andy!
I hope so… I will check this later!
Is the foot groove in an insole or midsole? I have noticed on my Ghost 14 the groove in the insole only (for now).
I’ll check it out tomorrow when I try them! Good suggestion

I had the Hyperion Tempos a few years ago and I found that by wearing them every third day I extended their lifespan.
Hi which speedy/race pace shoe has the most midsole durability for you? This hobby gets expensive if these things only last a few hundred miles!
The endorphin speed 1 or 2 had one of the best for durability for me!

How do you compare this shoe to Hyperion Elite 2? Do you recommend to run long/fast runs with the elite 2?

Had this in the Liberate Nitro wondering if its the microbeed foam

Hopefully, I’m hoping it’s nothing to worry about…
What are your thoughts on the Speed 3's plastic plate vs the Hyperion being all foam?
I prefer the hyperion to be honest… I like that there’s no plate, I got 416 miles out of them before retiring them and they could do everything!
will you make the long term one for the magic speed 2 🤔🤔
I need to get it to 100 miles first… if I manage that then very possibly!
Waow those product was Premium Quality compare it big brand running😅
Thanks
Wondering if you tried the Noosa tri 14’s and how they compare
I haven’t yet no sorry!
0:37 why there is fence on both sides? U cant go inside forest for real trail? Or its private territory?
Some of it is fenced, that’s on the “cycle track”, 90% of the trails in the forest don’t have fenced off areas 👍
Great
Hey Andy, looking for a new everyday trainer, can you please name a few to look at?
Nova blast 3, Nimbus 25 and if you going a bit longer Glide Ride 3 are my favourites.
Yes T run31 named some good ASICS options! Other options are new balance 1080, Nike Pegasus, hoka Clifton 8/9 or hoka Mach 5 👍
Have you used it for casual walking?
Yes, I use it now and then for walking around and it’s fine 👍
Hi there how do you compare these to hyperion tempo for track/tempo work. Like you, I love the Hyperion tempo, and mine are now coming to end of life😢
Both very similar but these do feel a bit more aggressive and a bit “faster” so I’d choose these ones personally!
@@TheFODRunner have you tested them on track for speed work?
Sadly I don’t have a track near me to use so they do road speed workouts

@pelicanmir no I did not. I did look at them but went for speed 3 which are too soft for track for me. So I'm back looking at a new pair ot track pair now !!

Yes
I have 2 pairs of the Hyperion Tempo but at around 300km I feel like the midsole lost the pop feel...
Too firm
