Unfortunately for a lot of us we're loyal to our teams, now matter how utterly dreadful we are. Take my team for example...poor poor Southend United. Relegated twice in a row with huge financial problems, in court I don't know how many times to be wound up and removed from existence, hanging for dear life for a while now but we'll probably cease to exist in a couple of weeks because we need a new owner but can't sell due to the debt with a new court date looming and no sale to be had.
We're currently bottom of the 5th tier, docked 10 points for going into debt, only allowed 16 players due to our problems, no player signings allowed, an injury to any position means we can't really put out a team, and yet I'm still cheering every time we win something, score a goal or whatever...cos at any moment the team will no longer exist.
It really is that close and memories of playing at the 2nd tier and beating Manchester United will be nothing more than that.

It may seem like there are only a few tunes used for the chants, the words being all that changes, but that's far from true. The ones you refer to are probably the longer lived ones but most of the chants use tunes from non-football songs, usually tunes from the pop charts. The tunes that prove easiest to adapt are the ones that stick around and get used for many vastly different 'lyrics', giving the impression to the casual observer that the range of tunes used is limited when in reality the ingenuity and wit of the fans is far from being so limited.
I'm glad that with the rise of the internet the chants are now being recorded for future fans to giggle and snigger over. I'd love to tell you about all the clever, witty chants and songs I've heard on the terraces and in the stands over the last 50+ years but sadly they have been forced from my memory by supposedly more important stuff.
I'm also glad that you're continuing to entertain me with these videos. I sometimes think I enjoy them all the more when you have Anna with you but that should be taken as a compliment for her rather than any sort of slight against you- keep up the good work young man (and woman when she's there too)!

The closest I can think of to convey how football-fandom is over here to an American is basically the same way you guys see religion. When your a kid, in USA your mom sings you religious hymns, over here your father sings you football chants. You change religion about as much (I suspect) as you change football team. only difference is: Over here you can make fun of your football team when they are bad. No one else can, but you can.

For context on the first one, sheep shaggers is what English people call us welsh people because wales has more sheep than people (3-1) to be exact, the clip is from Cardiff fans saying we’re sheep shagging bastards, as Cardiff is 1 of 5 welsh teams in the English league pyramid, the others are Swansea, Wrexham, Newport and Merthyr

Fun Fact In Britain since 1985 at Football matches "the consumption of alcohol within view of the playing area including, during the restricted period (15 minutes before the start of the event to 15 minutes after the end of the event), rooms within the ground from which the event may be directly viewed" So people are getting more sober the longer the match goes on. Rugby and Cricket are allowed Alcohol.

Depends on what league. I can't remember which, But I remember a load of fans getting very worried they would no longer be able to have a pint while watching the game in the next season if they won a game.

Hiya JT, It sometimes says around the ground "no cursing or swearing, Please" it definately does at City Ground, Nottingham Forest home ground, I don't curse or swear when I go to the game, its usually Carlisle United, I don't know what its going to be like when FIFA world cup comes to Canada, United States and Mexico, the last time the World Cup was in United States was in 1994, there was 1 arrest, a drunken Irishman after the 1-0 win over Italy, in giants stadium in New York, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England

derby fans as there mascot is a ram so that’s why they are sheep shagers.
Also any team from wales are sheep shagers too as there are more sheep than people in wales

the drum they refer to is exactly that. a drum brought to the ground. usually by someone with no co-ordination. no football match in all of human history has been improved by someone bringing a drum.

Were not actually allowed to take alcohol into the stands in the UK. Basically everyone is already pissed up from before the game, maybe run down at half time and grab a pint but you barely have any time before the game starts again to drink it. Look into football hooliganism in British football in the 70/80's, all this is mild to how it used to be.
