  • I've been wondering why no Gems summoned weapons in The Answer. This video tries to answer that question.

    But ruby can summon gauntlets (or at least a gauntlet) too, as seen in keystone motel. Plus, Peridot states that Lapis Lazulis typically enjoy water and *flying,* seeming to indicate that Lapis's wings are not actually a summoned weapon but a feature which all Lapis Lazulis share.

    • @ckvelasco264

      Actually her weapon is Hydrokenisis idk if I spelled that right but it is more of an a ability but that is just my opinion

    • @Rakned
      @Rakned Před 8 lety +4

      Ck Velasco But the theory that all gems need to learn how to summon their weapons is 50 % kaput at this point.
      In Too Far, when Amethyst uses her whip to cut off the drill head, Peridot says that she "can do everything a normal Quartz soldier can do," which means that at least all Quartz gems are created knowing the means used to summon their weapons. This fits in with how Amethyst summons her weapon in Gem Glow.
      That doesn't mean that this is just as easy for other Gems, because it would make sense that non-warriors would not be created with the knowledge of their weapon's functioning.

      if Lapis Lazulis weapon is hydrokinasis, that mean Ruby have two weapon that is pyrokinesis and gauntlet, saphire have cryokinesis as her weapon to....

    • @Rakned
      @Rakned Před 8 lety +4

      two LATE It's Lapis's WINGS that are her weapon, her hydrokinesis is just an additional ability. Same w/ Ruby - her weapon is her gauntlet, and her pyrokinesis is an additional ability.

      Wolfy da Wolf But that doesn't mean they can still summon the same weapons. Just because Opal, for example, remembers summoning both Pearl's spear and Amethyst's whip, but that doesn't mean that Pearl gains the ability to summon a whip, or Amethyst the ability to summon a spear.

      +Dylan Cabreros actually in the episode where peridot was first revealed, with all the little sphere robots, she says something like "this site has been compromised" and then plants a bomb on the warp pad, killing the robots as she teleports off.
      if one looks closely at that shot peridot can be seen taking that bomb from her forehead gem. it's worth going back n looking at it.

    If true, it would make sense why lapis' waterwings are so crude. She might just have learned to summon her gem "weapon" and was still refining the design before she was imprisoned in the mirror.
    Either she learned this while being friends with the crystal gems, or she was perceived as a bigger threat as a homeworld gem gaining the edge of gem weaponry.

It would make sense that Garnet's weapon is a larger and more powerful version of Ruby's weapon since emotions seem to play a large part in the summoning process and Ruby is much more emotional than Sapphire.

    • @NoESanity
      @NoESanity Před 8 lety +9

      AJ Universe that is why i said "seemingly"
      The standard gem would have no clue about it and if there was knowledge about it in some higher cast, that knowledge wouldn't be being trickled down and the majority of gems wouldn't know about it's existence.
      As you said, since gems are genetically able to summon weapons, back before the diamond authority the ancient gems probably would have known about weapons, fusion, gem powers, ect. and this stuff would have become forbidden knowledge when the diamonds took over. in a similar way to how sword smithing and metal working would often become forbidden in lands that were taken over by the emperors of our past, apart from the weaponsmiths for their private armies.

    since Garnet's gauntlets are from Ruby's experience in summoning her weapon, what if she taught Sapphire how to summon her weapon or she found out on her own. what would she summon? what is it about a gems characteristics that make the weapon. since the weapon comes from a gems own characteristics, what is it about each gems weapon that matches to the gems personality?
    here's some of my thoughts:
    Pearl- precision, focus, straight forward= long, acurate spear
    Amethyst- wild, free, swaying back and forth, able to tie bonds and snap with a sting= swaying, stinging whip
    Steven/Rose Quartz- caring, loving, would protect those they love from any danger= protective shield
    Garnet- strong, sturdy, heavy, powerful= great strong gauntlets
    Jasper- powerhouse, headtrong, impulsive = strong rushing helmet
    You can fill in the rest if you like

  • @trashleyiscashley6847
    @trashleyiscashley6847 Před 8 lety +4

    Here's my theory on it:
    Only gems made for fighting can summon a weapon aka quartz gems, rubies, and any other. Lapis, peridot, sapphire and pearl, were not made specifically for fighting- lapis has water wings, not really a weapon, and could be used for her specific purpose. Peridot, we haven't seen her summon or use her gem for anything really, even when she was threatened with Steven by the forced fusions, she may not have one because she may be a smart enough engineer to create things like limb enhancers. Sapphire- honestly idk, she has to use her gem for something because Garnets fused weapon is more than a single weapon. And pearl- she has a weapon BECAUSE SHE CAN STORE THINGS, she is the only gem who can do this, peridot even said pearls are to look pretty and hold your stuff for you- so she has her spear in her gem placed by her. We have seen her summon other things from her gem in the past. This may explain why during the answer she used twin swords instead of her spear.

    This is actually REALLY interesting, If what you stated is true then that means garnet's weapon is original and when ruby summon's her weapon it a degraded version of it. And judging by the fusion rules of the fusion being more than just the sum of the fusion then i would think the weapon ruby summoned is around 1/4 the strength of garnet's two weapons......i like this theory. Nice Vid

    can you do a character analysis starring peridot. (kinda like pearl)
    here are some facts
    1. she can't summon a weapon.
    2. she must be handicapped with the limb enhancers to actually defend and attack.
    3. she is always on either side of the line between the CG and HG during her small state.

  • @Dukeofnachos
    @Dukeofnachos Před 8 lety +2

    While Ruby did summon a weapon in Keystone Motel, I think it's possible that Sapphire would also have a gauntlet. Ruby summoned her weapon on the hand without her gem. If Sapphire did the same, that would mean that when they summoned their weapons as Garnet, they would be protecting each other's gems. Since they did show a need to protect each other even when they'd first met, it seems likely that this would be the case.

    I have a little theory myself, regarding summoning a gem's weapon.
    Remember in the very first episode of Steven Universe, Pearl explains to Steven how she summoned her weapon, but, that method doesn't work for Steven.
    Then, she came to Amethyst, telling her that he needs to dance like a leaf.
    Amethyst immediately reacts as if she knows what Pearl taught Steven, asking him if it was the pedal method.
    What if, before Pearl taught Steven about summoning a gem weapon, she taught Amethyst first. Which would explain how she knows what Pearl was teaching Steven.
    What do you think?

  • @h.cschannel
    @h.cschannel Před 7 lety +2

    this have supports my theory that gems weapons evolve and change over time. for intensence when pearl summons her weapon it looks like a short sword of some kind but then she lengthens it to make it more like a spear. but we've seen her use and almost prefer swords so my thought was that the twin lance swords were her original summoning weapon but over time evolved to be (sometimes) twin spears that she can sometimes use as swords.

      I don't think that's the case. In the fight against Lapis after she stole the ocean, Pearl cut water Pearl in half. The two halves formed to water Pearls. Pearl said something like "I hate fighting me" and summoned TWO of her spears.
      I think Garnet just summons two gauntlets because she can, and it makes more sense to have two gauntlets (as she has two hands) than for Pearl to have two spears (dual wielding spears is probably harder than dual wielding fists)

    I think its interesting that the crystal gems have adapted their summoned weapons for battle while lapis (who did not take part in the rebellion) has... water wings, for flying. This means that they definitely adapted, if not created, these weapons specifically for the rebellion. I'm still baffled by lapis' water wings however.

      +Renee Elliot I never said that Ruby couldn't summon a weapon, just that it might be that Garnet learned first. And no, Sapphire would not get a gauntlet. She is entirely calm and pacifistic. She wouldn't get such a violent Weapon.

    • @Kaala00
      @Kaala00 Před 8 lety

      +AJ Universe But what if the reason Garnet just gets the gauntlets is because Sapphire's "weapon" is actually just the future vision, and not that Garnet learned her weapon as a fusion. And Sapphire would've known how to tap into hers because she was higher up in the gem caste system and because her weapon was essential for the well being of homeworld so they allowed it. Just, speculation I guess, but I find it very likely.

    • @AJUniverse
      @AJUniverse  Před 8 lety

      ***** Future Vision cannot be Sapphire's Summoned Weapon, because she doesn't summon it. ALL GEMS have an object that they can summon from their gemstone which serves some purpose in battle. All of them. No exceptions.

  • @johnpellegrinoconnors3843

    I like the idea that the lack of individuality was the thing keeping the gems from being about to summon their weapons. Originally I had thought that the gem would need to be taught how to summon their weapon and that was what was holding back all the gems at the cloud arena. They weren't soliders, they were just a bunch of randoms. But the idea that Homeworld didn't know they even could summon the weapons fills in why the rubies never summoned their weapons either. One thing which wasn't quite apparent at the time this episode came out (either that or you forgot) is that our Ruby did have a gauntlet of her own that she summoned. Meaning that Garnet's gaunlets are based off that. Still uncertain what Sapphire's weapon is though.

      Maybe she just recognizes one gauntlet as part of herself. I noticed that she doesn't summon her weapon with her gem hand, which I thought would be a given. It's possible weapon summoning is almost like shapeshifting, but they are using the weapon as an energized extension of one's gem rather than manipulation of their illusionary bodies

    Wow, I love this theory. It explains the flashback really well and also ties together a bunch of loose ends such as how Rose and Pearl were able to take on Blue Diamond's entire court alone. Plus, it would fit with the overall theme of individuality making people stronger, especially in the case of fusion weapons where multiple individual strengths add up to something greater.
    However, while the bit about Garnet's gauntlets being unique to her alone is some interesting theory-crafting, I personally think that the gauntlets were originally Ruby's weapons. Otherwise, it would be difficult to explain how Ruby was able to summon one outside of fusion in "Keystone Motel." Also, Matt Burnett mentioned recently that Sapphire does not have a Gem Weapon (twitter.com/mcburnett/status/709559473069629440). Whether that means that she is incapable of summoning weapons period or she simply never learned remains to be seen, but regardless it would be strange for Ruby to "inherit" the ability from Garnet while Sapphire does not.

      Indeed, the odds are high that there are multiple Lapis. That being said, we know that each type of gem doesn't have a uniform appearance; we've seen three Pearls and they were markedly different. Even the Rubys, who were otherwise identical, had their gems on different parts of their bodies. She looks as spot on as a silhouette can be, and has her gem in the same area.
      Add to that, Lapis was implied to have fought on the home world's side, and the clues all point to it being her. It's certainly not conclusive, but it's a pretty big coincidence.

      That's true and all but it could be, her gem, it's on her back. And if she was under blue diamond it would explain why she might've been trapped. Maybe by punishment from Blue Diamond, because I feel Pearl would've remembered putting someone in a mirror (unless Rose forgot to mention it) Also if Lapis had been one of the more common gems and been of a lower class she probably wouldn't have been so eager to go back to homeworld. Plus her attire seems like it would be something of a higher class. Though who knows maybe being stuck in the same place for a while would upset you enough to leave the entire planet

  • @MelodicDragon97
    @MelodicDragon97 Před 8 lety +1

    After watching this, I think that only higher ranking gems/warriors like Jasper were allowed to summon their weapon on Homeworld. In the flashback with Pearl protecting Rose on the battlefield (Sworn to the Sword), both Rose and the warrior gem she's fighting have their Summoned Weapons out (the shield and the helmet respectively). Yet Pearl, a common gem (as stated by Peridot) used only swords, and the Rubies (also a common gem as stated by Garnet) only used their fists. As for the weapons at the battlefield, they were made for gems that had no such Summoned Weapon (a shield and a helmet can only get you so far in a fight). That also explains why Peridot hasn't used her Summoned Weapon; despite having said that Pearls were beneath her, she's still a pretty common gem, as implied when Yellow Diamond asked her which Peridot she was. When the Crystal Gems were at the Diamond Base on the moon, Peridot made a point that the seat Steven sat in was for Elite Gems only, and she was initially opposed to sitting in it herself which is farther proof that she's in a lower class, which supports my theory about her not summoning her weapon. Let me know your opinion on this

    Its true that Ruby has her own Gauntlet, as seen in "Keystone Motel", but its possible that this is because Garnet's Summoned weapon is the gauntlets. The theory in this video suggests that the 'invention' or 'reinvention' of Summoned Weapons uses a part of the Gem's being, and is summoned using the memory of a Gem's personal mindset. If we assume Garnet was the one to learn to use the Gauntlets, it would be HER that discovered them, rather than a combination of Ruby's and Sapphire's weapons. that being said, and looking at the weapons used by Opal, Sardonyx, and Sugilite; we can theorize that a possible secondary Gem weapon would be available for use by Garnet by means of fusing Ruby and Sapphire's weapons. This assumes that Sapphire's Summoned weapon wasn't also influenced by Garnet's Gauntlets. I'm Curious what AJ Universe's theories are regarding this.

    This is a wonderful theory!!! I seriously see zero flaws with this. I have a similar theory relating to Why Jasper fused with Lapis? As we know Homeworld was opposed to cross gem fusion. So, why did Jasper fuse with Lapis if it is forbidden? Well, think about this. Garnet is fighting for The Crystal Gems. Rose starts to realize how powerful Garnet is. She's a fusion of a weak solider and an aristocrat, but if a wonderful fighter. What if Rose had Garnet teach the other crystal Gems the art of fusion. This gave the Crystal Gems another edge Homeworld didn't have. The diamonds discovered this, and after a while started respecting the tactic and having their soldiers attempt fusion. After some time they realized it happened through dance, thus explaining the way Lapis and Jasper fuse. They then started using cross-gem fusions to fight. But, they realized the risk of gems defusing in battle. So, they came up with an idea. Forced fusions. They took dead warriors and stuck them them together

Also perhaps the scene was made less graphic for Steven by Garnett. Maybe the writers wanted the scene short and to keep some secrets?

      And no, Garnet did not tone down her flashback for Steven's benefit. We were not seeing it as she was describing it to Steven, or from Steven's point of view, we were seeing it as she remembered it. We know this because there are vividly detailed characters and events in the flashback that are not mentioned in Garnet's narration. If it were from Steven's point of view, there would not be such vivid detail included in the design of, for example, Blue Diamond, and the Rubies would all have the same gem placement as the Ruby that Steven knows.

    I agree! This theory would explain why Rose had such an extensive arsenal before their modern awaking/Renaissance. If Gem society/battle style had been based around their own individualized power sets/weapons, there would be no need so many external weapons. Comparatively, none of the modern Gems seem to have or regularly depend on external weapons (except Peridot in her limb extenders & the Gem poofer rod thing from Prison Break), suggesting that they do not feel the need to augment their natural abilities. Great theory & video-thanks!

    • @alleycatfire
      @alleycatfire Před 8 lety

      I'm not saying that there aren't potential uses and advantages to augmentation, I am saying that, as evidenced by the patterns displayed by current Gems, they rely heavily, if not exclusively, on their Gem Weapon. They COULD use other weapons but DON'T. I agree with the theory that the same would have been true in their past (had they had Gem Weapons, we would have seen them)...meaning that the reason past gems relied so heavily on hand to hand combat and external weapons is that they had not yet discovered their Gem Weapon. Yes, it is possible that the theory is false and past gems just didn't use their Gem Weapons, instead opting to use others, but that doesn't seem to fit as well.

      Yes but usually a fusion of 2 gems would combine their weapons (Opal's bow, Sardonyx's hammer) but perhaps somewhere inside Ruby's gem, there was a Summoned Weapon (a gauntlet). Ruby didn't know about it, but she then realized when she was fused with Sapphire (Garnet), she summoned a gauntlet. (Garnet's Gauntlets). The next time they unfused, Ruby tried to summon her Gauntlet, and it worked. As we see in Keystone Motel, Ruby's Gauntlet is very much smaller then Garnets. Possibly Ruby had that Gauntlet, she just didn't know she could summon it. Perhaps in the war, when Ruby and Sapphire were still Garnet, Rose taught Garnet how to summon a weapon, or maybe she taught Ruby and Sapphire individually. Sapphire didn't understand, but Ruby succeeded.
      But that's just my theory.

So yeah, it is a pretty impressive feat. Especially Lapis flying all of the way there, under her own power, in something like a month's time. That means she was travelling more than 9 million light years per day. I'd really like an explanation at some point as to how that is possible.

      +MIke Dye Right. I never said that Ruby couldn't summon a weapon, just that it might be that Garnet learned first.

    I always wonderd why a pearl would be designed to have a weapon if they are never allowed to fight. this also explains why peridot cant summon her weapon, she started out as a fully dedicated homeworld gem. she had no sense of individuality, something that is quickly changing during her time with the gems, note how she stutters when telling yellow diamond her facet.

    what would Jasper's reason for summoning her Crash helmet might be?
    could it be the enjoyment of fighting and her pride of fighting a challenge?
    it would be quite interesting if Jasper changed sides she'd have a small Zuko episode where she can't summon her helmet because she's now fighting alongside the gems she previously tried taking down.

    The thing about garnets weapon is that we've seen ruby summon a gauntlet that has more focus on the wrist so sapphire could have a gauntlet focusing on the fingers making garnets gauntlets

    I have a question: When gems shape shift, will there gem change size as well?
    I would say this isn't possible due to gems only able to shape shift there bodies, but in the episode cat fingers, amethyst transforms into a blue jay and her gem appears to shrink.
    What are other peoples opinion on this?

      No, their gems don't change size.

      I think gem size changes depending on the physical form of the gem. I think amethyst's gem shrinks when she becomes a bird because it looks more comfortable. It's the same reason why gemstones get bigger on a fusion.

    AJ, I always LOVE all your videos, this is a really interesting theory! The only thing I disagree with is your saying that Garnet's gauntlets are Garnet's own weapons. I believe those are still Ruby's weapons (although it may be true that she did not learn to summon them until she existed as Garnet) and that Sapphire's weapon is Garnet's shades.

    The "Garnet discovered her weapon as Garnet"-thing would also explain, why Ruby, the one time her weapon was shown, had a gauntlet instead of a distinct weapon relatively unique to her. That kinda was odd to me, when I first noticed it.
    Though another explanation might be, that Garnet has become so much of what she is, that her 'own' weapon doesn't feel like her anymore.

    We can see that Ruby's Weapon is a smaller version of a gauntlet in the episode "Keystone Motel" . Just like three rubies fused just make a bigger ruby, I think it's fair to say that sapphire's weapon is also a gauntlet and when they fuse, Garnet has bigger gauntlets because sapphire's and ruby's combined make a big one.
    All gem fusions we have seen have bigger weapons when they fuse
    This is my opinion, please do not take it seriously.

    Wait! I don't know if this has already been brought to light, but Ruby can summon the gauntlet by herself as a weapon. In Keystone Motel, we see her do it in the diner to smash the table with the infamous "I am an eternal flame, baby!" quote.
    So I always assumed that Garnet was in possession of two separate powers (that being Future vision from Sapphire and the Gauntlets from Ruby).
    I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the theory, but I do think it's well worth noting!

    All of it except for the part at the end seems pretty right on.
    it also explains why peridot doesn't have a weapon, she probably does but as a simple engineer she would never have been trained to use it like a soldier would have.
    As for the Garnet thing. The episode Keystone Motel clearly shows Ruby using the gauntlets.

    Agree - Because I couldn't figure out what Sapphire's weapon would be to combined into Garnet's weapon. The first fusion weapon we see is Opal and she summons both Pearl and Amethyst's weapon to combined it together for her bow. The same is true for all the other fusions; Sugalite and Sardonyx summoned separate weapons then combined them to make their new one. But Garnet doesn't combine a weapon, hers just summon together automatically. I bet it has something to do with individuality, like you said. Since Garnet is always fused, she isn't "Sapphire and Ruby", she is Garnet. So that all makes sense to me!

  • @PancakeMonster67

    I love this theory! And (sorry if someone has already said this, I haven't scrolled that far down into the comments) I think your theory on Garnet's Weapon being a fusion Weapon is also reasonable, which I have an opinion on myself that I was just thinking of earlier before I watched this video. I think that because Garnet figured out her Weapon when she was already fused is why Ruby was able to use her own mini gauntlet later on when she and Sapphire unfused. However, (as far as I'm concerned) hasn't been seen summoning two as Garnet does, which I think is because she needs to summon her Weapon from her gem specifically (notice where all the other Weapon-summoning gems get theirs from), and she only has her gem on one hand, whereas Garnet has a gem in each hand. That's probably why Garnet can summon both, which would make sense that it would come from both Ruby's and Sapphire's gems because it's Garnet's personal Weapon, as well as the combined Weapon fusions usually have.

    • @PancakeMonster67
      @PancakeMonster67 Před 8 lety

      That being said, I also believe the reason Garnet's combined Fusion Weapon isn't anything added to the gauntlets is because Sapphire's Weapon is her future vision. However, she was able to use this before. Well, maybe being a rare gem enables her to still remember how to use her Weapon (going win the theory that gems could user hem before but forgot how). OR because she is an aristocratic gem gave her a reason never to need a physical Weapon because she was always protected. Another reason, similar to the one I just mentioned, could be because Garnet discovered her Weapon after being fused, and Sapphire didn't need one because she didn't see herself being separated from Ruby too often in the future. (Keep in mind, my citing Sapphire as "rare" and "aristocratic" is from Garnet specifically stating her as so in the episode where garnet tells her fusion story [the name of the episode escapes me at the moment])

    Maybe they felt it be better to use fiscal weapons because far before the war bismuth had been working on gadgets for pearl and garnet to add to her weapon which meant they had to know how there weapons looked and how they were used.
