Dynamite Headdy is one of those games that growing up with the NES and then SNES, I nvr played much Sega Genesis. And as an adult I picked it up and was like whoa, Sega is more than Altered Beast style games and arcade shooter ports, there's some really fun platformers on here. Then I went crazy on all Sega consoles.
There are so many secrets in this game, I need to look them all up, they are super obscure and I think needed to really beat it? I'll have fun watching this and seeing
The stuff with the secrets is crazy. I can’t imagine ever doing that part. Apparently getting them all unlocks some kind of extra boss I was told in the chat.
@mikematei To get to the secret boss, you have to beat the 4 basketball mini games. At the end of the game you will see a safe and you imput the numbers the game gives you after beating each mini game.
@megamanmarchek8293 Seriously? I'm pretty good at the basketball mini game(staying in one spot seems to help at first). But sometimes you just screw it up, the game really is special. It reminds me of the amount of effort that the guys from Insomniac used to out into the Ratchet and Clank games. I remember when it 1st came out on PS2, unlocking all those super fun skill points to do and secret gold bolts to collect to spend on unlockables was a huge deal and almost no games have done that b4 then(A few others and Spyro games had skill points, nothing like Ratchet).
I just miss Treasure and the care they put into every game. From McDonald's Treasureland Adventure, Dynamite Headdy, to Guardian Heroes, Silhouette Mirage and Mischief Makers, every game is not only unique from each other, but also unique in the genre they claim.

There’s a new retro Castlevania-inspired game out called Crypt Stalker. Like those Curse of the Moon games. Supposed to be good I guess.

I was thinking the search algorithm was sending people here by mistake because of the search items entered but that wouldn't explain the other recent review which also had over 100k in about the same time. I love TREASURE but there's something about this game's visual style that never clicked with me. However, it was very fun to watch Mike learn the game and getting close to beat it. Hopefully you clear the 9 worlds in the near future. Do you like Alien Soldier, Mike ?

One of my favorite Sega Genesis games. It's on drugs thats for damn sure.
I always liked this game. 👍 Although it only went away completely a couple of years ago. It would be very interesting to see your full walkthrough. There are still plenty of moments that can impress, but also irritate at the same time 😏.

I eventually made it pretty far in this game on Sega Channel back in the day, but I never beat it. Having the relatively short-lived Sega Channel service as a kid was pretty cool, 'cause it would update with new games to play every month, but some games like this one would be there almost all the time

Super entertaining. Ive always regarded this as one of those Ultra Hard Genesis games, the top of the pack, as far as games that dont play like shit. I tried the game briefly and watched my friend work on it a bit, and it seems TOUGH. Would like to work on it more seriously at some point. These videos always inspire me to go back to shit. Was surprised when you said you might have beat the game in the past but dont remember. I was thinking, shit, you must beat some pretty insane shit for this one to not even register, ha ha. Saw you corrected that later. Still checking it out.
Treasure is amazing, we need more game companies like them. One of the best.

I had a lot of fun with this game when i reviewed it years ago. Especially in the further levels. Sega releases seemed to do very well with platformers back then

Hey Mike Loved your stream: mirrored my experiences as a kid playing this.🤣 If you missed my comment to your question (no worries I know why) about the sleep heal being risky it's because you can get hit while healing and potentially end up with less health than before; mainly on bosses though (the giant golden robot with the heart comes to mind).

@Mike Matei Have you seen Mutant Turtles: Superman Legend? It's a Japanese anime movie where the turtles get super powers. It's in the style of the 80's cartoon.

Maybe the Sega Genesis platformer you confused this one with was Pulseman? Also a cartoony looking platformer that starts in a movie studio as the first stage (I think?).
Currently playing my own attempt at beating a Treasure game with Alien Soldier. Started it recently and so far made it past the third boss but there are still 22 more bosses to beat. Kinda wonder if that is also a Treasure game you could see yourself streaming someday. It is one of those games though with very short stages and more focus on boss fights (kinda like Dynamite Headdy actually) so it might not up your alley.
Watching this stream, I was about ready to cheer when you beat that ageing head boss because that really gave off some final boss vibes...only to see that it continues past this (and after the claw robot boss, you still have two more worlds before you...GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH). One detriment from this is that it disqualifies this game from the "List of platformer games that end with a shmup level" LOL.
Tresure was to sega as Rare was to Nintendo at this time

I cant think of another developer that was more adept with Genesis hardware, especially audio, you dont get music this quality and varied from any other company on that system IMO
Miike, have you eventually tried DUNE, for sega genesis? It also exists the PC version "Dune 2000" which has better gameplay in my opinion (and funny AF cut scenes with some known actors) but DUNE for sega genesis is the original and classic one... also might be better for you regarding playing with controller vs mouse... let us know what you thought abt it whneever you play it!

I beat it when I was 7, but I was a kid and had no life, and literally played it for years and memorized everything. I can beat it without using the bazooka and beast potion. XD
