  • How I grow Disa Orchids which I intend to grow in my cool to cold greenhouse here in the UK.
A recently acquired young division of Disa "Watsonii Bramley". Potted in 60% peat moss and 40% perlite.
A stunning hybrid created by crossing Disa Uniflora & Disa Kewensis.
So follow me along the growing season" fingers crossed" to see it bloom.
What I forgot to mention was when feeding, feed on the bottom tray not directly into the pot.

One of my faves, I've been considering trying a hybrid myself.

I’m sure you’ll have amazing success unfortunately for me having them in small trays stood in a small amount of water of which on occasion I forgot to fill.

Lynn we all need a bigger greenhouse, I doubt if it will stop at one, got all that potting mix left lol 😂 I’ve got about six Dracula’s at the minute, I have been swapping my Massies with other local growers, that way I add to my collection otherwise I’d have 5 of each plant 🌱

Hi Mick, I have a couple of disas, but have been using a sphagnujm/perlite mix to grow them in, which can be challenging when it comes to repot time... I am always breaking roots when removing the sphagnum, I shall be watching with great interest to see how yours does in peat/sphagnum. Please keep us updated!

Will it stop at 1 I wonder, probably not. I have often looked at them but never tried them and now in my cool house I have no room for any new orchids. I would say I need a bigger greenhouse but got nowhere to expand except maybe adding a 4’ extension on the back. What Draculas do you have Mick they are a beautiful genus and I will have some splitting to do soon. This is why I have a full greenhouse as I keep everything when it is divided so this. Year I am going to grow them on and then sell them. Love the look of the flower for the Disa.

Great video Mick! I have a few Disas coming in the mail so I’m going to have a go at them myself. Any update on this one you repotted 8 months ago? I’m curious how well it did. Thanks!

New subscriber Mick. I have had success with Disa over the last few years. I got them from Dave Parkinson Goole and potted similar to you with rainwater. The flowers are beautiful and they increase yearly. I notice in the background of your video Orchid Focus fertilizer and wonder how you find it??

To be honest Ken I don’t use orchid focus anymore, I only use Rain-Mix fertiliser on my masdevallias Orchids, personally I think there all about the same so long as you’re plant is getting some nutrients and it’s a personal choice of each growing, thanks for watching and subscribing. Happy growing.

Loved your Dias orchid potting up I would love to try one . Will they grow inside?

Just been speaking to the grower I got this disa off who said they would be better of growing outdoors during the summer and a frost free environment in a winter, but he's never grow one indoors so could be worth a try.

Could the Disa be grown in a self watering method ? I grow some of my species phalaenopsis this way and they are doing really well.

Jackie I only have the one but I know they have to be potted in peat and perlite and their roots are to be kept moist during the growing season I stand mine in a saucer of water so cannot give you a definitive answer, sorry the internet may be more helpful to you. Thanks for watching.
