    Just bought one and the sales man at the nursery told me it's a lime tree from Thailand. I was a bit disappointed when I started to search and came to know that it's not your typical lime tree.. but after seeing the encouraging comments I think I'll keep it 😀. Thanks to all.

    Skin of the fruit used as one of the ingredients for Thai green curry. Leaves also used for this recipe. Other ingredients include cilantro, cilantro roots, basil leaves, onions, garlic, galangal, turmeric, turmeric leaves, lemongrass, etc which are all pounded together into fine to coarse paste that is later sauteed and added to it coconut milk, meats, eggplant, potatoes etc.

    Hi Byron, I planted different citrus family here from pomelo to micrantha. I wish I could have that one. What I did is since they are one family I budded and grafted them in a tree, so that one tree bear different fruits depending on the season. I put vermicast as fertilizer

    The fruit us actually frequently used, not eaten directly like you eat an orange, but used a lot as food flavoring like, sushi (Philippine 'kinilaw', desserts (balances sweetness and sour taste, plus the amazing aroma that like a key lime pie minus the aroma), and other dishes you use a lemon. However, your video is very informative and on point for the uses you've mentioned.

    One thing to note here is that if it not grafted and grown from seed, it will take a really long time for it to bear fruit. I've had mine for about 8 years and still no flowers or fruits:(

    We used to have a mature kaffir lime tree grown from seed (center trunk is 4-5", 25-30 year old) and on the ground. Ours died due to borer ='( . If you don't prune them, they will behave like tree, with long main trunk, and bushy(?) on top. You can also use the cut fruit to rub your hands after finish handling seafood to eliminate fishy smell on hands.

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  Před 5 lety

      We'll pass the suggestion along to Byron for a pest management video. You generally want to spray the entire plant down forcefully until there's some run off. The plant should be dripping the neem solution once completed. Make sure, when applying, to do so in a shaded location.

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  Před 8 lety +4

      +SmilingKnight Check the roots to see if they are alive and heathy. If not that is the problem. Be sure to water when the soil appears dry and not before. Keep at a minimum tmeperature of 65 and give them all the sun you can. If the root system has collapsed then don’t repot them but try and regulate the moisture in the soil and see if you can get them to grow new roots. At times they will come back from this stress as the season progresses.

      Citurs hystrix has flowers that are both male and female or perfect flowers as it is known. Actually all citrus have perfect flowers and are self pollinating.

    how much perlite and vermiculite do you mix in the soil ? thank you for helping

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  Před 8 lety

      30 to 40% perlite 10% vermiculite Best to buy a prepared soil unless you can understand the liming needs of the soil you are mixing. Most potting mixes are made of sphagnum peat moss perlite and vermiculite. Sometime compost is added and composted bark. To that dolomitic lime stone is added and some fertilizer.

      My 3 years old grafted kaffir lime flowers and fruits late last December under grow lights, now bearing 8 larger fruits, with many more tiny flowers and fruit buds growing. I'm thrilled and surprised this is happening. I'll take it outside next week, high temp looks to be in the 70s.

    Hi,
    I have a kaffir lime tree that I bought rather recently. I didn't know what to look for when I was buying it and I've now noticed that although the tree is quite tall and looks healthy, the leaves on it are all tiny (except one little branch at the bottom) and aren't fragrant like they're meant to be. It's it a complete write off or is there something I can do to help it?
    Thanks in advance for your help

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  Před 7 lety +3

      Sure it’s the correct variety? The leaf is double segmented which is different than most citrus and even under poor culture the leaves are highly aromatic.

    • @0024Cass
      @0024Cass Před 7 lety

      thanks for getting back to me. appreciate it.
      Yes, the worn out tag definitely reads Kaffir Lime and a small branch closest to the soil has the leaves you've described with the familiar citrusy aroma. However, this is the only branch with the double large dark green leaves. There's about 30cms before the next branch and all the top branches have tiny yellow-light green leaves. I've now chopped the plant back to just above the lowest branch and hoping for the best.
