- Hello, my name is Shelby and I am a potter based in Victoria, Australia.
In this vlog, I spend the last week of preparation creating some pieces for the kiln. I figure out a plan for kiln firings and begin the task of organising and packing up all the pottery for the market. This video could have been two parts but I felt it was a nice look inside the last week of prep and then a look at the market.

Throughout this video I take you behind the scenes of all parts of the process with lots of Timelapse's. The Timelapse's make it a little easier to keep focused on the work at hand whilst being able to show you what I am up too.

Just an FYI, a few people have brought up the Lillie’s and the kitten. I keep my cats away from all plants and flowers which is why they live inside. Our little kitten was out in the studio as I was packing for the market as she still needed a lot of supervision as she got climatized to her new home.
The shot where I have the Lillie’s happened after the kitten had moved inside already. I actually forgot to show off the collar so brought her outside. I took that shot and took her back inside. The Lillie’s were already in the bin at this point because they were old.
Thank you for being so concerned but please know my little miss had no contact whatsoever with those flowers or any of the plants and dried flowers in my studio.

I am not someone who cries easily, and I can't remember ever happy crying in my life, but I'm commenting to tell you that I happy cried with you when I watched this video just now. Every time you opened a layer of the kiln or showed a product my thought was "ooo I would buy that at the market". I live in the UK so it is hopeless dreaming. But literally everything you make is right up my street and looks amazing

I was too awkward to talk to you, you seemed so busy I didn’t want to hold you up!! But I loved being there and the lady and her child behind me in the queue were chatting about how much we love your videos and how awesome it was that you had the queue, no one is going to question your popularity or legitimacy in being there ever again! But that’s not how imposter syndrome works I know, it doesn’t just make it go away with logic unfortunately, as someone who also struggles with it 😅 but wanted you to know anyway! I had to drop out of art school 1 semester away from graduating. And then I got diagnosed with chronic Lyme and RA. My symptoms that lead me to getting my diagnosis was debilitating anxiety, and loss of mobility in my dominant hand. This has been a huge set back for me, and quite a few personal and medical speed bumps along the way, and has left me burnt out, traumatized, and uninspired. Seeing your work, and your journey has been uplifting. Idk where I want to go as an artist, but you saying you do this for personal joy, and to share that joy in return really was touching. Idk where I’m going, but I know I need to go as an artist. Blessings to you, Shelby.

You are such a breath of fresh air. Your passion is so exhilarating. It warms my heart to know that you are an inspiration to ALL generations who have the desire to persue their dreams of creating with all their talents. I paint on anything I can get my hands on 😅 wall murals, clay tiles, furniture... believe me... anything 😊 I was able to make money doing so and hold down a full time job. "Imposter syndrome comes from caring." That in the single most comforting way someone has ever explained that.
When I heard someone else say that in my travels, I instantly adapted it to my way of thinking. It just shows that you really care for your craft or whatever you are doing so you worry you might not do it justice. Its the best and it takes out some of the self sabotaging mentality!
I'm watching this and having flashbacks to my days working in a pottery studio! The boss/owner and I and other employees would make the pottery which would be sold on Open Studio days, and also at fairs etc. We always had tons of bags, labels, boxes, and other things we needed to take our stock "on the road."
You are the reason why I started doing pottery! I'm so happy for you that your work inspires others as much as it inspires me. Stay inspired! 🌅
It warms my heart thinking about how much of Shelby's art has come out of the mystery molds. If I remember the story right, those molds were just gathering dust in the back of someone's storage shed for who knows how long, and now they're getting poured again, creating things that people will cherish. I swear, there's a pixar movie in here somewhere.
I should be sleeping but now I'm crying and feeling so proud of you. Love seeing your joy and how humble you are. A suggestion if you can find a photo of you behind the stall with the crazy long line print it out and put it somewhere in the studio. The days when you're feeling tired, down or anything look at that photo and remember that crazy long line and how people came just to see you and buy something of yours. Thanks for showing all the products at the end. Since covid I've loved seeking out fellow Aussie businesses so I can support them. Especially if they are small country ones. Congratulations ❤
For my birthday and my sisters (we are a year and two days apart) her daughters and their husbands took us to a place where people can come, select greenware (I think) and decorate with underglazes. My oldest niece’s 3 teenagers came and we had a blast. My believe that there is no wrong choice in art. It is a continuous learning experience and the journey has mush to teach. All of our pieces came out beautifully! The kids want a kiln now. 😂😂😂

This is the first of your videos I have seen. Sweetheart when you opened that kiln and all that beautiful colour appeared on your lovely pieces, I took a sharp breath in.
