Why Do Wisdom Teeth Suck?

- Every year, 5 million Americans have their wisdom teeth removed. These pesky molars can cause infections tooth decay, and even tumors. The problem? Wisdom teeth often can’t fit in our mouths. But that wasn’t always the case. Early human ancestors used these teeth to grind up tough, uncooked food.

My surgery took only 15 minutes and I had a local anesthesia. It felt pretty weird, because my entire mouth was numb and I couldn't speak. I touched my lips and they felt so different, it's hard to describe.

Did the painkiller helps u to remove the worst pain? How many hours help u the pain killer to stop the worst pain
@@user-nz4bg7nl9l I just took ibuprofen for a few days to get through the worst pain. If you're careful that the wound doesn't get infected, it won't hurt so much. However it can take up to a month until you're fully recovered and it will hurt a bit in the meantime. I'm sure you can ask your doctor what painkillers he can prescribe, if you're scared of the pain.
Just numb from anesthetic. Nothing crazy.

There your 12 year molars don’t worry. Not wisdom teeth.
Your second set of molars grow in around that age. Count your teeth. If on a quadrant of your mouth you see two premolars (smaller molars) and then a molar and then there’s a second molar coming in, it’s just your twelve year old ones. Wisdom teeth are the third molars (mine got taken out at sixteen before they erupted because my jaw was too small)

Just got all four of mine removed a couple of days ago at age 15. So far everything has been going well. So as long as you follow the instructions your oral surgeon has given you, and research carefully, you'll be perfectly fine.
I just got all four of mine removed five days ago and I’m 16. How long did it take for yours to heal, btw? I was told that that it would heal more quickly because I’m young, but I wasn’t given a time frame
Took about a week before I could eat somewhat normally(mainly pizza), and a month or two and I was completely back to normal. I would definitely be extraaa careful the first few days so the healing process goes along smoothly. Also, brush your tongue 100%. I brushed it five days after keeping my mouth shut and the what came off was some of the most vile shit I've ever seen(I was using saline water to wash my mouth).

blame the anesthetics on making you say "unusual" things if anyone presses.
breathin • 210 years later chances are you won’t reveal anything. most oral surgeons don’t even use anesthesia, or “laughy gas” anymore. but if you do end up getting anesthesia, you most likely will be too busy observing your fingernail shape and the depth of your bellybutton to reveal any secrets.

I was also really scared, but I went to a good modern dentist with anesthesia and it was one of the easiest things I’ve ever done. It felt like I was in there 5 minutes. Completely painless and super easy if you get put under.

I've had mine removed years ago. It's not as terrible as they make it out to be.
My dentist wanted to remove my bottom ones which were causing pain and leave the top ones until they cause trouble. Went to another dentist who sent me to a jaw surgeon to get all four out at once. It was a very straightforward process and I was happy to get them all out in one hit.
So our ancestors had jaws like Gigachad before cook food was invented.

I literally felt the pain after I left the doc because my body processes meds fast 💨 so immediately tell the person who picks you up to put in your prescription for your meds as soon as you're done you'll need them
They are there, trust me. Growing ever so slowly. Mine didnt start to erupt fully till I was 26 and I only had surgery to remove it due to an infection a year later. And it was only the lower left jaw tooth that hurt but doctor advised to remove both upper and lower teeth to avoid complications. Now, a year later I can feel the tooth on my upper right jaw coming out, no sign of the lower one yet, guess next year Ill go for another visit to the dentist again. My favourite part is, I get to keep all my teeth as souvenirs lol.
I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed when I was in the 5th grade. The surgeon had to open my gums to get them out, and they were HUGE!!! If they would have waited for them to pop out, they would have caused my teeth to go crooked. The best decision my parents ever made, I now have the most beautiful perfect, straight teeth. I’ve never had a cavity in my life and I’m 41 years young. I thank my parents for always being on top of my dental hygiene as a child. FYI by local anesthetic only all four at the same time. The removal wasn’t bad at all, the swelling afterwards is what sucked the most.
I’m getting mine removed in a few hours , I’m just watching random wisdom teeth videos to calm down my anxiety .

I only had 2 out of 5 impacted teeth removed (I have an extra tooth underneath my lower front teeth). One of my bottom wisdom was 1.5x bigger than the biggest molar tooth I had. The dentist who did the surgery asked for my permission to take my tooth as a specimen for her paper because it was unusually big, and it was the biggest she had seen yet. I'm just glad the surgery was done because I enjoyed all the ice cream I could consume that week.

Getting my wisdom teeth out was one of the best decisions I ever made. The instant relief. 2-3 days of pain, 7-10 days of inconvenience due to washing out the holes, eating different food etc. all in exchange for a lifetime with no more pain!
I remember getting my wisdom teeth out at least 1-2 years ago (as of this comment, I’m 21 so I was around 19/20 when they came out) and I don’t remember much during the surgery since I was knocked out during the surgery however after the surgery. After the first few hours (I say at least the first 2-4 hours) I didn’t experience any pain but after awhile I felt a little sore (out of ten I say like a three or a four) but it was tolerable. The only thing I hated was that I wasn’t allowed to eat certain foods because of the stitches and brushing my teeth for the first few days was a pain but after it healed it wasn’t a big deal.
I have all four, but since some bad teeth were removed before they came out, the had plenty of space. The missing teeth holes are no longer there. I can see how the wisdom teeth take up a lot of space and can be a problem.
I have all 32 teeth and luckily I still had a lot of space before they grew out. They perfectly fit into my jaw.

Had all 4 removed. Only was in pain for about 2 weeks. Just get it done all at once. US Dental insurance is a joke 😒
Had mine removed one week ago. Had a local anesthetics. The procedure was absolute painless. After 3 hours the anesthetics slowly faded, and the pain began. It was a solid 9/10. I can strongly recommend to take the given pain killers immediately after the surgery and not only after 2-3 hours. This will hopefully eliminate all pain. The next morning and onwards, there was no pain anymore. Swelling began on day 2 ans lasted up to day 5. I didnt eat anything for 24 hours, and can strongly recommend not to eat, as food may get stuck. Bleeding stopped after 2 days, and swallowing was a bit difficult for like 5 days. After 7 days, I could start to chew again. I did not chew at all before, and strongly recommend to eat soft food, which can be swallowed directly. Bad breath is normal, and I wouldn’t recommend brushing teeth in the first 5 days. As I said, after 6-7 days, I was 80% back to normal. The surgery itself was absolutely painless, and all the days after as well, except for the 3-4 hours before going to bed. Just take more painkillers and go to bed with your head elevated. Hope this helped!
It's different for everyone. I could chew from 3rd day. I think it's important to listen to your body. Eat simple food. Drink coconut water but don't use straws. I think first 24 hours are important when the blood cot is forming. Any negligence could result in dry socket.
I couldn't take the painkillers they prescribed because it made me sick to my stomach.

I had all four removed in 2020. Over the years, I had multiple dentists tell me I need to have them extracted, but I never got around to it. I started to get really bad headaches, and toothaches that became a frequent occurrence. Once I had them extracted, most of the pain I've been experiencing (I've mentioned previously) went away. I have a small mouth, and it wasn't one dentist that told me this, but multiple. So it made sense to have them extracted (even though I didn't want them to be removed). Even though I get sad from time to time about it, I have no regrets removing them.
Why is it called wisdom tooth? Should have been called Despair tooth.
Nah it should have been called the Dentist's gold.
@@johnr.6023 nah it should've been called the Tooth Fairy's Jackpot
Not funny at all. Don’t try again please
Your humor is that of a 4 year old. Stop wasting space in all forms

fruiite same I’m so scared rn
Meszn what did u do
I just turned 16 I'm scared mine gonna grow in wrong 😯
same here
I remember having to take my wisdom teeth out cause of the amount of discomfort it gave me. But it was definitely worth it. Only thing I remember from that is that they really amped the local stuff and gave me gas that made me really goofy during and after it was all over.
I just had all 4 of mine removed yesterday at 15, around 14 my bottom ones were causing issues and inflammation to my gums. I went under and it was completely painless afterwards for 3 hours. When I woke up I kept thanking my nurses and asking to keep my teeth. My top wisdom teeth were still kinda up in my mouth and didn’t have any problems but I wanted to get them out because I didn’t want to have surgery again. Overall, surgery experience 5/10, I was really scared few days before and the morning of I threw up due to my anxiety💀 but everyone was super nice to me and made me comfortable. Tbh the pain of the IV hurt more then anything else.
I think I’m one of the 38%. 😂
Andy lucky

Me too, I only developed 2 on the bottom, which I had to have pulled about 12 years ago.

Lol my mom is a part of that group unfortunately I'm not and what am I listening teeth are growing literally sideways (like inside my mouth or outside my mouth I can't remember which though) and it hasn't broken through the gums yet
Brianna Beecher
Same.
You were not born with any teeth.
Several years back the wisdom tooth that grew kinda side ways got infected. It was the second worst pain I've felt in my life. I was given opioid painkillers and antibiotics for a week. After the infection was over, I had all 4 of mine removed (2 didn't even pop out yet). I didn't want to risk it again.
i have leukocytosis since one of my wisdom teeth started hurting, so im removing them one by one
they can mess you up really good, i've heard stories of people who got out of the wheel chair after removing wisdom teeth.

Other molar:yeah!
Amazing scenario! 😂
When I tried to write something down after the surgery it was just scribbles. But at the time I felt like I could actually read it.
Thought I had enough jawbone for my wisdom teeth because they came out straight but then they started pushing against my other and and my jawbone. Pain radiated into my jaw, ear, and temple. Had to get them taken out last week and I’m still recovering.

I can feel the pain in my mouth just from you commenting this
Rip
I need to get mine removed today
@@exr_tregleta How’d it go?
Just had an aha moment. I’m now needing to surgically remove my impacted wisdom teeth. But I just remembered…there was a time, my early twenties) when I had dreams/nightmares (seemingly out of nowhere) about my teeth. Dreams of my teeth growing, crowding to the point where it reached breaking point and many teeth got ejected out of my mouth. I had these dreams a couple of times and never knew what it meant, or why I would be having it, because I never had teeth problems at that time that could explain maybe a fear that could lead to misguided dreams like that. Now having found out my wisdom teeth has been crowding the back of my mouth and causing problems for my back molars, I had a voila! moment about those very weird dreams I used to have.
Wisdom teeth removal doesn’t really hurt, it’s after the anesthesia wears off that you begin to suffer 🤕😣😭
miguel portillo If you’re on laughing gas, it sucks. You can literally hear the grinding as they try to dig the teeth out. It’s the worst. And then trying to avoid sucking while healing (and in a world of pain) so that your blood clots won’t fall out? And the disgusting taste left in your mouth after all that rubber and gauze that’s been in your mouth? The worst.
Sarcastic Ismyname I lost twenty pounds because I couldn't eat anything after my wisdom teeth. But my brother had it worse they had to use a laser on him.
miguel portillo true I got mines removed and it hurt so bad
My sis's wisdom teeth got removed but all she thought was about anime
Eagle Warrior that’s like my worst fesr
My grandma got hers removed and she said it was the worst pain EVER and she would lay in bed crying and moaning over the pain, and had to keep using pain killers, and pm pills
I’m 23 and just got them removed a few days ago, in recovery rn but once I can eat solid food again I’ll be GOOD
I’m 16 and I’m getting my first wisdom tooth and the first few days he started tryna poke up, it was annoying as hell but it’s starting to chill out but I’m praying i don’t have to go through all the trouble of going in the doctors and getting it removed
I'm 39 and I just got mine removed last week. Mine didn't start coming in until I was 30. I only had to get 3 removed, one is growing under the bone and won't come through.
