The FiiO R9 is a flagship desktop high-definition audio playback and decoding headphone amplifier all-in-one machine, mainly used to connect headphones, active speakers, and other devices. Thanks to the flagship configuration and rich input and output interfaces, R9 can be used as a professional digital turntable, preamplifier, decoder, and also enjoy high-quality music streaming wirelessly and local network playback.
In open Android mode, it's easy to operate the R9 through its 6-inch FHD touchscreen. Additionally, you can install and use third-party streaming applications such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify, and more.
Equipped with 8-channel ES9038PRO*2 + 8 THX AAA 788+, the performance and sound quality have been significantly enhanced. The output power of each channel remains undistorted at a high level of 7300mW under 32Ω, providing an exceptional audio experience for both earphones and headphones.
The R9 supports HDMI decoding, HDMI video output, and HDMI ARC. It can be connected to televisions, gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, monitors, and other devices, allowing for high-definition audio and video output for both entertainment and gaming.

Great review thanks! I saw right at the beginning of the review you had a VU meter on your screen. I've got an R9 and can't for the life of me find the meter!
Can I ask if it's a separate app and if so, where to find it? I can't find any reference to the meter in the unit display settings....

Cool video, how does it compare to the Astell & Kern ACRO CA 1000?
It’s hard to tell the difference. This seems to have more features and sits in a full system well. The Astell has stunning build quality, a more solid sound stage and can be used portable too.
So when i wan to use a soundbar would this work. Like from gpu to in hdmi then hdmi out to soundbar?.
Will i get like hd dts or atmos?

Why would you not need the XLR? any one willing to pay the price of this D.A.P .will most likely have headphones with a XLR cable

It could work in that scenario but I have not tested.

The portion seemed like it had the SD fuller. I say, it’s nice and quiet at 09:35.

Is the price justifiable?
So many features and top quality, I think so. There are deals from time to time too.
Listened to it today with a pair of Focal Clear MGs. Too bright for me. Like my own combination Chord Poly/Mojo2 with Clear MGs better.
But to each their own.

Yes it is a lot. The R7 is almost as good, with a much better price.

It sounds amazing.
More like a "fixed" FiiO R7 considering the latency issues due to it not having an XMOS chip for USB connectivity.
$1500 is a laughable for a device with planned obsolescence in terms of software/firmware support. Definitely not a viable upgrade compared to it's predecessor.
