Fun fact: my mother came from Guatemala in the 70's and became a nanny/housekeeper. In the 90's my mom was Teri's housekeeper. Teri was super duper nice to me and let me hangout at her house all the time and her daughter Molly was there. Teri was always super nice and treated my mom so well...they are friends till this day. Teri gave me my personal video cassette of "Dumb & Dumber"
Oh what a coincidence Teri Gar and I made PBJ sandwiches for those guys building the grand Cooley dam 😅
@@sammysouth8372oh come on. Sounds plausible enough to be true.
Fun fact for you maybe.
Loser comments here.
I mean, really. That's just snarky of you to belittle someone's obviously sincere recounting of a family tale for all of us to enjoy. Perhaps you just don't have enough experience to know better.

What she brings to these clips is like lightning in the bottle. Hollywood screenwriters never knew how to write for this American treasure. Love Teri Garr!
She's the best guest he ever had. Which may explain why she was on so often. Just a total babe.
She had a good part in Tootsie and was great in it.
She was such a trooper. She'd been years into her M/S diagnosis, having symptoms since 1982 and she just kept going and going. Such a lovely woman.
ONE OF THE VERY BEST at reparteé.
*trouper
While Teri did notice, in 1982 while filming Tootsie, the first, occasional symptoms of what she would _finally_ learn was MS, she did not get the diagnosis until 1999 - after many many doctors failed to correctly diagnose her condition for those 17 years.
Whenever I feel down for whatever reason, I watch one of these Teri Garr on Letterman videos. She’s so good. And David seems to have a special connection with her. Better than a psychiatrist.
Gary - I always had the impression that David was Teri's "complimentary psychiatrist"...
Probably one of the most genius moves by Letterman was having Teri Garr as a guest,
Their banter fits together like hand and glove.
I always loved watching her on Lettterman. She's so positive.
Not only is Teri Garr a total doll she was just a lot of fun!
I can't think of an actress whose more loved than Teri. ❤
Fell in love after seeing her on Star Trek
It's Christmas time and boy is it a difficult one this year. There is nothing in these videos about xmas but watching Teri Garr and hearing her laugh has cheered me up and put me in the mood! Thank you for the laughs!
Whew, that makes two of us, mate. Not just Xmas, but the whole wretched year is being stripped away by Letterman and Garr.
Adorable and sharp as a razor, she was the highlight of the 80s. For me, anyway.
She might have the most attractive and charming personality of anyone, and to top it off she's absolutely beautiful.
Wasn't she gorgeous?
@@scottbinns318Very few people even come close.
I’ve had a childhood crush on Terry!
@@scottbinns318 dave liked her i think, i believe all these ladies were cat like around him. And they were always spiteful of the ones he hit it off with.
U2
It amazes me how a woman with her position and beauty could be so down to earth. Simply amazing!
She sounds so much like Phoebe Bufay on Friends. What a brilliant idea to cast her as Phoebe's mom.
You realize she IS Phoebe’s mom, right?
@@marchenoecker Yeah, he said it in his comment.
@@deletedwaffles Yeah, I think you’re missing something. Teri Garr IS Lisa Kudrow’s mother in real life.
@@marchenoecker No she isn't. Ms. Garr has one adopted daughter, Mollie.
She really does.
I really miss DAVE on LATE NIGHT especially when one of his guests was TERRI GARR.Late night was so great in the Eighties.Thank goodness for CZcams,my own personal Time machine!
Hard not to fall in love with this woman. Wow
this trip back in time is simple safe fun,
teri and dave and paul, richard lewis and some pet tricks with a bunch of pizza. I love the fact that we watched this while eating pizza as dave played videos and teri watched. It was nice to hear Teri laugh
and her eyes spoke a language that i just could not get enough of even now.
i dont know why i miss this show so much.
I watched this when i was 26
this was a delightfully unstructured setting. sort of a glimpse behind the curtain.
You dont think you will miss something like this at the time it happens but looking back you realize
it was like catching lightning in a bottle.
Beautifully said, Brian
one of the most un-assuming, charming actresses out there at the time...
Time for Part 2! Teri Garr was one of the best guests. Her and David had great chemistry together.
Goddess,babe,smart,hilarious,cute,energetic,cool
She had everything!
Funny thing to me is Teri Garr was my Mom's age and when I was watching Letterman at this time I was about 13. I never really paid much attention to her. Now being 47 I am amazed how attractive and cute she was and can't figure out how I didn't notice this when I was 13...lol.
oooo-kay
@@NormAppletonHa ha I actually was enjoying the initial side commentary of the first comment and then your reaction pulled me back to reality.
Come on...even at 13, you should have been able to tell how attractive she was.
Cute funny talented witty and not afraid to do anything
Simply put - they made good conversation an art form
"Too tired to do a real show" was pure genius.
Until I watched this video, I had only ever seen a brief clip of Teri Garr getting into the shower with the Late Night credits rolling. It's great to finally have some context on how that scene came about.
I always love Teri. Such a beautiful woman. She is always so youthful. In her 40s here and she looks like she was in her 20s.
I don't think I've ever mentioned this before, but I've always meant to: Don, you do a great job of blending the music of the band when the show goes to and then returns from commercials. Somehow you manage to maintain the tempo every time. Nice work.
Thanks! I try to make them as seamless as possible. Most of the time they don’t work, but sometimes they do.
Wow, it’s so smooth, I didn’t even notice! Great job!
@@dongiller Yeah you're definitely doing a stellar job in that department! Seamless.
Isn't Teri just about the most delightful talk show guest ever? She can hang with Dave effortlessly and her laughter seems totally unforced and genuine. Can't get enough of Teri Garr!!
I remember one time Teri was telling Dave about her latest movie. Dave responded. "Well, I guess the next time I fly, I'll see it!"
Not surprised what a truly fantastic witty loving talented person thanks for your comments
Had a big crush on Teri since the 1970s. Still do.
interesting, in the july 1986 clip she talks about going to the doctor because of a limp, and waiting for test results. the overall 25 year story arc is incredible in this collection. life is beautiful thank u for posting.
I think she once said that her first symptoms occurred in 1983. It sounds like she waited another three years before seeing a doctor about them.
She said she noticed symptoms of MS while filming Tootsie 1982. She was not diagnosed until 1999.
Ladies and Gentlemen The Always Lovely and Talented, Miss Teri Garr
She will always be remembered in Mr mom. She played a great role
I just watched Terri dancing at the bus stop in black and white in the 60s . Well 2 min ago
😆
Back in 85 I was working as an elevator operator in Rock Center and I worked OT for this show bringing people up to Dave’s “Lazy Show”. I took Ms. Garr up and she was, unbelievably, even more lovely in person, and very sweet. Lewis had his mom with him, and he was also very polite.
the comedy team of Garr and Letterman. she was the brains!
He was the jar of diet borscht!
So damn sharp! Such a talent
In her prime, I would have loved to have seen Teri on the Graham Norton Show where she would have been uncensored. She is so quick and I imagine that she was biting her tongue a lot. Loved Trri then, love her now.
I remember watching the shower episode thinking that was one of the funnest thing i'd ever seen. 🚿
Put the candle back!and. You haven't even touched your food... were her greatest lines ,I think Mel Brooks wrote just for her.and of course"roll roll roll in za hay" I loved her the first time I saw her still do
I always liked Terri Garr and found her beautiful and amusing. But I didn't realize she was THIS funny. I love how Dave is always trying to get her to do something she doesn't want to do... hilarious.
I love her. Dave was so smitten by her. She always had him eating out of her hand.
She was plugging that movie Miracles for a long time.
They are such great foils for each other. "....No, I'd pay a guy to burn it" xD xD
Terri is such a sweet heart . Just love her. Whether Dave had a thing for her or vise versa or they were just pals .Whether she has something to plug , nothing to talk about in particular , she's still just great.
Supposedly her and Dave dated briefly.
These two should have been married. What chemistry :)
This is comedy gold / but now I feel so old.
Love Teri she is Wonderful
Terri has such an infectious personality and that's all it takes for me. A class should be taught on this because this is what guys want in a women.
Good Heavens!!!!!.......She IS stunningly beautiful and pretty and real and adorable!!!
What a heart throb... the ultimate "Girl Next door".
OMG was she the cutest most adorable thing on the planet? She's the whole damn package. She's gorgeous and she's cheeky sweet.
I Love Teri Garr.
Wow Dave really liked her
Few things are more wonderful and entertaining than Dave with Teri on Late Night. Thanks you for this collection. I have some of them on tape for 30 years, but some here I have not seen.
Wow. I remember, as a kid, thinking that she was so adorable and wanting to kiss her face.
Of all Dave's crushes she was my favorite. And his too, I think.
She is Wonderful!!!
Teri's trademark ditzy style really goes well with Dave's hyperbolic wise-guy schtick. I can see why she was on so often. She was like halfway between a normal guest and Andy Kaufman going off the rails.
Compare her to Kauffman . LMAO. Kauffman/Lawler at "The Gardens".
@@melaniewood3506 Teri in the shower was the closest she got to Kaufman, that was surreal.
I forgot how wonderful this woman was!
What a fantastic talented lady she should have gotten more juicy roles her and Dave fantastic chemistry Young Frankenstein great in that absolute flair for comedy great dramatically too National Treasure
Like her. Always did. Best wishes Cher and many thanks. 💕
Terri garr the cutest ever. And a great and mind and loving person.
"You kill me." Cool video.
She's so adorable
That July 1986 interview is fascinating, with Teri "joking" about having a "strange disease." It's also the first episode where Dave goes all the way over to help her walk in, which became standard after this, the previous time he only went halfway. I'd say Dave knew about her issues by then and this was kind of an "in joke" between them, with the world at large still completely oblivious. Her previous appearance she seemed off her game, too, as if she had something on her mind and had had a talk with him backstage.
I fell in love with her when she appeared on Star Trek.
That was a great episode !
Adorable may be the best way ro describe Teri.
Since they mentioned it, we need a Connie Chung compilation!
When she finally cracks walnuts with her bare hands.
And footage of when she found out Maury cheated on her. Now that's gold right there.
She wondered why she was there, that she had nothing interesting to say. Just her looks and personality were enough for me.
Also, I believe the problems with Teri and Paul originated from a Teri appearance on Letterman's show where she mentioned that he, along with other staff, were smoking pot in the office, that by which Paul objected to it being told on live television (whether or not it's true, I dont know). More happened, but it's impossible to know anything more as neither of them spoke about it.
No wonder paul's the way he is lol...didn't like her at all in that segment. I thought it was cuz maybe paul was one the one pushing for the musical number in the earlier interview. Thanks for the info!
" do you like the Monkeys?" God I love her and After Hours was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen!
She's great on that as well as anything I have not seen After Hours in years she and Griffin Dunne are both great in that
My gosh man I wish we had stuff on now like this
I wish she still did stuff what an incredible talented person her rapport with Letterman and their friendship touches your 💓 both people incredibly funny witty and talented
whole lotta flirting goin on !!! cant believe how much he liked her...
11:35 I love that bit, a complete non sequitur.
I have always been secretly in love with Teri Garr... what a sweetheart...
Well...It's not a secret anymore. LMAO.
@@melaniewood3506 By golly, I guess you're right...

'Tis a twisted, black heart that could witness Teri Garr & not immediately fall in love ❤
@@deepermind4884 'Tis so true, indeed...
So gorgeous,and funny!
What a woman.
She was so darned charming. She could have played Annie in Annie Hall. And Diane Keaton WAS Annie.
I'm glad you said that. I ran into Diane Keaton at a museum in New York and she acted just like Annie Hall. She wasn't really acting much in that movie and she won an Oscar!
@@EdDunkle Great casting makes for great acting. Woody Allen has long said that he thinks there should be an Oscar award for Best Casting. I think he is correct.
"I make these notes and don't know what they mean... as I go through life l write down things that I think will mean something... but when I read them, they are totally meaningless..."
It’s just not fair. What happens to these young beautiful women is just so sad. So many of them just lose all of their beauty. There are some exceptions that maintain their beauty into their 70’s. But so many of them, you don’t even recognize them anymore. I loved this woman when she was a beautiful young actress. Men have it much easier I think. But not all of them.
I miss her
She was 🔥🔥🔥
1:01:40 "it looks like something you'd see in Cuba before the revolution, doesn't it?"
Many have wondered if these two were ever or could ever be a couple, but guessing their work would have kept them apart a lot. Dave was in NY, and Terri, being a Hollywood actress, probably kept her more in the west coast, depending where she was filming. They were lovely together on camera, but not sure if their true lives would hold them together.
Dave didn't date celebrities. He needed to be with people he could control.
She was so lovely and quirky. Wonder if Dave and Terri are still friends. Sad the MS has stripped her mobility. 😩
Sad to hear that. I didn't know she had a medical condition
My sister has had MS for over 30 years now...it not only ruins your physical abilities, it also takes down your brain, eventually. My sister no longer can hold a normal conversation.
I have been watching Dave since the track shoe days and I have never seen any other female guest affect him like Teri Garr does. Great interaction, great chemistry, yes, but there is an underlying tension and it is almost palpable. I look at the body language and I always get the feeling that Dave is a wolf and Teri is a succulent spring lamb. As soon as she walks out his persona takes on a distinct shift.
He is always very welcoming and she always keeping my distance, no sustained eye contact, sit up straight. I would love to know the truth.
If you don't love Teri Garr, then you need to call your doctor and set up an appointment for an MRI scan, so they can find out which part of your brain is damaged. Seriously, do it. This could save your life!
Teri Gerr was my first crush. Young Frankenstein
"You seem like a very logical guy... That's what you'd do, right"? "No."
"Well, then what would you do?"
"I'd pay someone to burn it."
ROTFLMAO
Roll roll roll in za hay
Back then, that was the perfect girl for me. She talks like she's drunk! There's nothing more fun than a drunk gal as long as she's a happy drunk.
Terri Garr and Cyndi Lauper would have been great in a movie together playing nutty sisters.
Great personality and wit, she was the plain Jane in Tootsie next to Jessica Lange.
She reminds me of Phoebe from Friends.
Well, she did play her mom. :)
@@dongiller Lisa Kudrow stole her whole character from Teri Garr.
I thought Teri's casting as Phoebe's Mom on "Friends" was great because their comedy is very similar.
I always thought Dave had a big thing for her.
erick ziglar He did.. And so did everyone else
HUGE. almost as bad as me
He was definitely hot for her!
You're a regular Columbo
Who didn't!?! PS: I always an odd fantasy. She was my Senior Prom Date.
Just a damn sweetheart
Was she a lesbian?...No kids, I do not think she married....it is fair to speculate.
@@curbozerboomer1773 Well I don't know, I never thought about it. Google says she married a dude in 93 and they adopted a daughter.
8th time watching and now i can narrow it down to the appearances that she allowes body contact. all the episodes where she doesn’t recoil are the ones……they will find these post when i die….dark
She is taller than I remembered...
Listed as 5' 7"
@@acousticshadow4032 And she usually wore heels on the show....Dave is around 6'2", and with the heels, she looks nearly 6' tall.
So cute! Hugs & 💋 😘
