    Toilet roll is designed to absorb very little water and pick up solids while dissolving quickly.
    'Kitchen' paper is designed to absorb water but to have solids slide off while retaining the soak ability and strength / integrity
    Amazing what you pick up over the years ‼️

    I was a big Space 1994 fan so these speak to me. Since I learned of your preshade wash technique (that you were showing shortly after contrast paints came out) I use it all the time.

      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 3 lety +1

      Preshade and a drybrush to help things along works a treat on these sorts of things. It's not as smooth a finish as straight over a primer, but for a rougher, more lived-in look, I can't recommend it enough. Glad to hear it's been working for you, too!

      This came off an Elegoo Mars machine, which is a resin printer. The layer height is 0.035mm - it's not a fast print, but it's indistinguishable from a cast miniature when it's done!

      Just got up and was about to answer this one when you'd already found it. ;D The stuff currently available as STLs is slated for release in resin 'at some point,' but with production and such in a mess with the current worldwide situation there's not a hard timeframe on when that might be.

    Great job as always. I’m struggling a little bit with my 10mm Wood Elves for Hordes of the Things. I know I should not be too precious because I’m basing them for 25mm but I was wondering, if I posted you a squad, would you consider a demonstration? Your 15mm and 6mm tutorials were great. I have plenty of sprays and inks and so on, just cramped hands and not much confidence.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 3 lety +2

      Hordes of the Things? I haven't come across that rule set, so that's definitely one I'll have to check out. I've actually got some 10mm stuff on the way fairly soon, so while not specifically Wood Elves, it might help?

    • @jameslister5662
      @jameslister5662 Před 3 lety +2

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio that’s good enough for me! They are cheap enough that I can make a few errors in test models.
      HOTT and De Bellis Antiquitatis are Wargames Research Group rules that I used to play as a kid, getting back into the hobby their simplicity and generic ness mean I can impose my own fluff, colour schemes and potentially even use historical armies as ‘humans.’ I think they have fallen out of favour in the intervening years but they are wonderfully adaptable even if the distinction between a bow and a reflex bow isn’t a consideration. The ground scale works very well when basing small models for 25mm. I was painting 28mm and getting better but a few injuries and limited space make 10mm the ideal scale to work with, less detail to tempt me!

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 3 lety +2

      I just found links to HOTT and DBA... I should have guessed it'd be a DBA variant! 🤣 I've had my eye on using 10mm figures to play Dragon Rampant for tiny fantasy outings, though those rules are a far sight simpler still, I imagine.
      It does remind me I need to pick up some of these bad boys... www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?cat=6&sub=28&page=1

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio have never tried Lion Rampant but it seems to have a following. Those are lovely casts, by the way. I have been getting into Pendraken and Irregular. Funnily enough the best results so far seem to be simple block painting over a bright undercoat (ie bone and dry brush white) and painting on strong tone for protection Contrast paint a little runny for fine work but ok as a wash. I have so many beautiful MTN spray colours that are going unused though. I really recommend those sprays, very wide range.

    How did you do the base? Was it a texture paint with some dry brushing? Thanks for your response

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 3 lety +1

      This was Astrogranite, Earthshade, drybrush Dawnstone, then some random splotches of Camoshade and a final very light drybrush of Underhive Ash. Grey bases can be a little bland if you stick to just grey tones, and a little bit of yellow or green to simulate dust and moss build-up can help break that up.

    • @xurbition
      @xurbition Před 3 lety

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio much thanks for the paint names. When you applied the “Astrogranite” was it the technical or the debris? Apparently there’s two version of it. Unless you did a 50/50 mix with both? *confused stare*
      I’m definitely going for more of a moon-planet terrain as I plan to use them for obj markers in the 40k universes (but inspired alien spacesuit color.) many thanks again for your feedback and response!
