That is looking good, you must have the most patient wife ever. My wife would ask me everyday, when will it be done. Great video Richard.
😂 you aren't lying!
Ask me everyday when it will be done and be unhappy with it when I finally finish 😂
A nagging wife that doesn't respect you, congrats on that one
Sheesh so serious in the comments
That part lol
Wow! I haven't been on your channel in a while. You have really come a long way! You were always good, but now your delivery is excellent, and your skill is superlative!
I'm glad to see a professional using molding in other ways than the way it was designed. I have picked up moldings in home centers and mentioned what I was using them for and was told that they were not meant to be used for that. Well, I bought it and I can use it how I see fit.
Your fireplace is looking awesome.
Technically, the way he used the picture hanging molding makes it an edge bead molding . I made a “crental” mold to trim out my kitchen, which is a dental molding turned 180 degrees so the openings face upwards and look like the crenellations on a castle wall.
It’s been a true joy watching your channel over the years Richard. Thank you for sharing your growth in your skills of your trade as a Craftsman. Best wishes to you in this new year.
I am simply amazed at the open minded way you view these moldings and how nice your home will look with this mantel completed. A true carpenter to be on a list with the likes of Brent Hull. Great work!
Actually, Brent Hall is his teacher
I realize this. The comment is to show, that Richard will be in the company of or better than Brent Hull with the continued progress in his carpentry skills! @@nickreffer3046
Great job, Richard! Your association with Brent is truly paying dividends and advancing your skills at a tremendous rate! Loving the look and I can't wait to see the overmantle!
Brent seems to have that effect.
I enjoy your ability to describe simply how you think through your process and how in so doing you have a very confident but humble manner about it. Too many guys I’ve encountered in the field just can’t teach, don’t know how to or want to teach and are overly arrogant and expect everyone to understand their way as if it’s on a stone tablet from mt Sinai. Nobody knows it all, but you sir know more than a group put together and are very down to earth about the whole thing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills
Richard, it's challenging to express with words how awesome & how much I'm enjoying this series!! Blessings for 2024, Dirty Jersey out!!
So impressive. Love seeing the steps and your perfect craftsmanship.
Love that you’re doing it as you like it. I’ve always disliked hearing people say you can’t do it like that because it’s incorrect, like using picture moulding as a cap. Looks great
This is magic. To see you use a picture molding in an unconventional way is magic indeed.
Thanks for the versatile tip on how to setup your miter saw to quickly and accurately cut the off camber miter.
Your mantle looks like a champion.
Looks terrific, thanks for sharing with us!
Wow! What a great solution for that situation. Your ability to see that molding work is incredible. I can't get over how nice that fits with the overall look of the entire piece. Well done sir! You are teaching not only how to do this high level of carpentry but how to think on that level. Thank you so much!!
I'm impressed beyond words. A youngster like you being mentor to a 75 year-old guy like me...life is strange. I'm sitting here wondering what you''ll be doing 20 years from now and hoping I get to see.
This stuff is why I hang around. Keep it coming!
Work is perfection! Also love that fence
Al I can say to you Richard is GREAT WORK VERY PROFESSIONAL.
I've been seeing this project from start to where it is now. And your cuts and measurements are on point! Very impressive. Keep sharing and keep up the great craftsmanship work.
Fantastic work. The Mantel is looking great.
I have admit this is not my style but I still enjoy your craftsmanship and your process. Happy New Year
Flipping a picture rail, you crazy guy, you! That look is great. That is why I like using Windsor...the stuff is usually perfect on all sides.
Hi Richard, I recently found your channel and sincerely amazed at your attention to detail. I share in your interest with architectural detail in older fine homes and aspire to producing finish work at the same level as yourself. I'm not a professional (doing it for a living) but I've built my own homes as well as completed a number of remodel projects. I look forward to watching more of your work! 👍
You are a true artisan. I like it when you even amaze yourself.
That is amazing how that is coming together~! Using that frame stock (I think you called it) gives it a fantastic look~! Can't wait to see how the rest of this works out. Thanks for sharing this~!
I’ve been planning on building a fireplace mantel for my basement for about five years. Watching these videos has given me both ideas and courage. Mine won’t come close to Richard’s but that’s ok too. Thank you
Great video... I love geeking out on the details! Thank you for posting this wonderful content!
Beautiful! Love how you played with the moulding to get the profile you wanted.
Damn Richard. You have come such a long way. When I first started watching your channel years ago. Tbh I thought you didn’t know what you were doing. To be transparent. It was the mdf. I thought anybody can make mdf look decent for the moment. But I’ve watched you evolve and you are doing exactly what I want to be doing and elevating into a real woodworker and I am fortunate at least to be able to live vicariously through you. You are living my dream bubba. Just so you know. You keep me motivated and prove to me that if you keep your head down and do the right thing. Eventually good things will happen for you. I hope one day I get to step up my game to the level that you have. Your evolution has amazed me and I have mad respect for how far you have came as a woodworker. I’ll be honest. I used to think I was either as good if not better than you as a carpenter. I’ll be the first to admit. I couldn’t even hold your hammer anymore. You are killing the game and I love to see it happen for you because I know it is your love and I know how passionate you are and I am so happy for you to see you to be able to make your dreams reality.
I love your channel because you show people that have a desire to improve their skills and/or surroundings how to do it without fear.❤️❤️
Between you and Brent Hull (with the basic rules and why) we can start seeing beauty in our homes again.❤❤
Nice ! Looking great Richard. 👍👏
Wow. Just excellent! Love how the proportions are coming out and the story that pitched cap tells.
Molding as a puzzle. I like it. I'm a woodworker, detail work is du jour. Keep it coming.
I LOVE the way you look at trim outside the box. Very cool idea inverting that moulding on an angle like that. Veyr cool.
I love watching it build up bit by bit. This is not trim, this is artistry.
Thank you for going into some detail on your thought process and techniques you use to achieve your desired end results with various mouldings. Good stuff!
Loving this series.
Yeah, that is very impressive. Mix and match and it comes out stunning. Glad to see you enjoying yourself and sharing it with us. 👍👍
Keep up th great work! We also come across many products that have more side than what the majority uses. Thank you for bringing that subject out.
Thought you were going to sell the makita mitre saw Richard.
Glad that you still have it. I personally enjoy using my one.
Very creative use of the picture molding. That's textbook "thinking outside the box!"
Irregardless how long it takes, Ashley will absolutely love it!
This is awesome. I can do a lot of woodworking but your videos give me the confidence to try new more difficult things. And it's paying off. Thank you
I've install more picture rail than I can remember, yet never installed it as picture rail. The fireplace looks fantastic! 👍
Thank you again for solving anther one of my problems. I'm currently wrapping up a bathroom with beadboard based wainscot. I had every detail resolved but wasn't certain how I was going to cap it. I now have another option to consider!
Your artistic talent for finishing is absolutely amazing. Injustice wish I was as creative as you are.
Ya man I love this stuff. not many go into this detail and I think its great.. I have a mantle and a ton of trim and paneling to do sometime this year and these videos are really gunna help me. much appreciated
I’ll be honest I wasn’t sold on the upside down hide the ogee angle projection…….and then I saw it installed. Great choice. Awesome choice to go that route.
Excellent table saw savvy at 7:05. Always make sure to leave material between the fence and a running saw blade. Never clear the material from the blade.
like the way you design and explore the moldings in this project... gets me thinking how to do the same
That is looking beautiful. Amazing look just by flipping that molding. Wow!!!
Enjoyed the video Richard. That was allot of layout for your mantel. It is really looking good and very creative. I have to mention. Where's your guard for your jointer? At least slide the fence over to cover most of the unused blades. You need to check out Perkins jointer accident if you haven't already. You be safe and God bless.
Thank you so much. I can't afford a contractor so I have to DIY, and your vids help so much!!
Bro... I see so many smashed champagne flutes in your future. Your wife needs to word her friends up before your big reveal party! 😅 Looking sweet as, I love using trim in an unconventional way, especially when it works!
I can only do regular trim at my house but i really enjoy watching these types of videos. Its looking really good.
Nice signs in the background! 😊 keep up the good work Richard!
Excellent work as always Richard! Thank you for sharing your process and techniques.
Your talent is amazing! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!😊
Nice detail work. You’re work is amazing! This is always my favorite part of any big renovation project.
Since you decided to trim screw them in, I would recommend that you use a 1/4" forstner bit to make a shallow hole for your trim screws to set into and then use a 1/4" dowel to plug the holes for a cleaner finish.
Dude, you lost me for a hot second with that cap idea. But then you totally NAILED it!!!
That cap looks amazing. All of it is looking good. Trim work like this is so much fun. My hoodies and shirts came in. Guys on the job got a kick out of um. Looking forward to the next vid.
Simply delicious watching you work and create your beautiful paneling.
I'm not tired of seeing picture molding put in upside down ;-)
This was awesome. You are one talented craftsman. Can't wait for the mantel detail to come to life.
You're awesome Richard. Your videos have really helped & motivated me to up my trim game.
I will probably never do the work you do. But it sure is great to watch! Excellent job!! Blessings!!!
Richard don't you love it when something comes together smoother than warm butter, that you get to do it again?
My kind of build! Looks amazing thus far !
I am impressed with your precision work, it's beautiful.
I’m loving this next level work. My living room, bedroom and stairwell are all done in wainscoting inspired by you. I don’t have more rooms to do though.
Haven't seen your post in a while. Great to see you back c. Ciao franco
I am awed at just how far into the process you use levels. Me I’d have been using squares and reveals a week or so ago.
This is coming along nicely! Can't wait to see the completed project.
That’s jaw dropping gorgeous!
Fantastic work...I was looking for the next video yesterday..and lol today ot showed up.
Good thing its your own home huh? I can't imagine how you would price a job like this.
Incredible job Richard! Looking forward to the next step. Cheers.
As a painter I have this on going debate frustration. Who's job is it to fill in those finishing nail holes? The carpenter who made them or the painter who is doing the finishing paint coats? And as a carpenter when to use screws in the face and when to use finishing nails? I use screws for strength but you used them for the panel frame no strength needed there and even why the pocket screws as well? I agree that last molding you turned upside down is perfect.
Love the vision…big dog. It’s looking sweet. Happy New Year.
Looking good man, the layering process is great to see in action
This is looking very majestic and magnificent and phenomenally very mesmerizing 🤯
Sweet job!!
I had a good 4-5 year period of my building years where I did nothing but interior finish carpentry jobs on nice quality homes and a few privately owned businesses. Where me and the owners (me doing the experimenting and getting creative) had to make all the design decisions......awesome time and very (???) spiritually fulfilling
Strong work man. Your attention to detail is inspiring
very curious to see how the window trim is going to work next to all of that......looking forward to it. I finally got my shirt!
Never get tired of your enthusiasm.
This is awesome. We need a video sooner.
Really cool. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Looking Awesome Richard!!!!!!!! Can u show us the prep and painting when u get there…
creativity is peaking!
WOW! Stunning and beautiful!
Absolutely not my taste but there’s just something about watching a master craftsman at work, superb.
WOW, can’t wait to see it finished. Merry Christmas & Happy Healthy New Year to you & the ones you love!
looks great so far, can't wait to see the final product.
Hats off to you, I would have liked this video more than once if I could as I learnt something new at the end. Wishing you and your family a happy New year, God bless.
That is beautiful Richard,
I’m here for the moment you “send it home.” Happy New Year Richard!
Happy New Years Richard!
Beautiful work! Respect, man!❤
didn't think that upside down trim would look good, but it looks amazing especially on the corner.
It looks awesome !!! Looking forward to the completion !!!
while im not a fan of this aesthetic and all the stuff brent talks about i love seeing how its built .
