    Tradescantia zebrina are CRAWLERS. In the wild, they are more like a ground cover. It does not matter how many you put in a pot, EVENTUALLY the top area will lose its leaves and look sparse, because it is attempting to grow and crawl elsewhere. Just treat them like an annual that you will have to continue to chop and propagate to have a pot that looks nice. They will NEVER look like a nice hanging pot of pothos. I gave up on them about 3 years ago. I think I just got tired of chopping and propagating each year. (But that's just me) 😵‍💫

      @pudik2008 Před 9 měsíci +1

      I gave up on them in pots also for the same reason as you,long,lanky.
      I planted some in the ground and they went berserk,more fuller the colors are more deeper,but they took over the whole garden,so hubby pulled them all out! 😅

      @kittysparkleeyes Před 9 měsíci +1

      True this.. i have a small form of tradescantia and it has crawled across the tops of my window sill plants and rooted itself. The crawling parts look way healthier and denser than the parts that are hanging down. Same is true of string of hearts tbh, its a crawler.

      I adore tradascantia, but I've come to a similar conclusion. I won't purchase them anymore and let the plants die put of my collection. Lovely plant, but not one I've enjoyed as a houseplant.

    Tradescantia need A LOT of light to avoid getting leggy! I just keep chopping and propping them because I can't give them enough over winter, they're much easier to keep outside.

    The noID Hoya's leaves are hard to pin down but my guess would be H. carmelae as the blooms do look quite spectacular - similar in shape to H. curtisii's but bright pink!

    I’ve got a queen of the night, and propping in water first works the best for me. They root pretty easily and then I’ll put them in soil. I did a few cuttings in pon after they grew roods in the water and they seemed to be very happy. So hopefully they stay happy. If it grows a really long thing (sorry can’t find a word for it) you can let it grow and it can grown new leaf’s from that thing.

    I have recently discovered that some plants have unstable mutations so even though they are the same plant, lighting, water and how much sun they get can greatly affect the way they grow. You could have one under purple lights that will get silvery leaves and one under the full spectrum warm white light and the leaves end up green.

    The hoya could be Hoya puber. It looks like my puber, but there's a few that look like that, I'm gutted I couldn't make it to this swap, it looked like the best crowd yet 😢

    Plant swaps look so so fun! I hope there's one in Manchester eventually, big planty community here :)
    For the tradescantia, use soil with good drainage and let is more or less dry out before watering and it will be happy. Their roots HATE sitting in moisture. I chop and prop my zebrina probably once every 6 months to keep it bushy. You do end up with a lot of cuttings though - I started with one pot and now have four 😂
