Interesting question, in summary, both berberine and fiber can contribute to better glucose metabolism. While berberine directly affects insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake thru a critical enzyme AMPK, fiber helps regulate blood sugar levels by slowing down digestion and promoting satiety. Incorporating both into one's diet may offer synergistic benefits.
This video is so clear and targeted. Love the info Doc!
When I see a channel like this. So knowledgeable I am so happy!! Fiber is so effective for fatty liver disease ! If you can eat 100g of fiber everyday you will feel invisible. No diabetic, no cancer, no anxiety no headaches
Well, we'll see, Been taking dihaydroberberine for 3 months, Together with Myo-&D-Chiro-Inositol. After stopping metformin. Fasting blood sugar before starting was 8.2 - 8.6 before lunch and dinner. For the last 10 weeks my fasting blood sugar before lunch and dinner has been 6.2 - 6.7. Tomorrow large blood panel at my GP's. I couldn't tolerate Berberin HCL, but dihydroberberine is just fine.
First time for your channel. Nice information. Many thanks.
Dr. Dave, great information! Thanks.
Thank you Dr. Dave. Excellent information that will help a relative of mine who cannot tolerate Metformin. Thanks for providing the invaluable data.
Glad this helped! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely outstanding video. Thanks a lot.
Glad it was helpful!
Berberine is expensive. Metformin is cheap to free with some insurance. Fiber has so many benefits for the gut. Good video doctor.
Couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching!
Chromium also helps to lower sugar.
Berberine and cinnamon with white mulberry works for me
Thanks Doc! I was Type 2 and now Type 1, and have been an Insulin dependent. I stopped with Metformin 500mg XR, then when went to Type 1 doc said no need to take so I went to Berberine and took 500mg, with not much change from Metformin, I now think I should have gone to 500 x3. I will try that... Thanks
Great. Information.. DOC.... Thank you...
Appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching!
Would love to see data using both products.
Use both for more benefits is a good idea
What do you know about this thing I heard: That when you start berberine, it may take a few (or more) days before it really starts working? You mention the body getting used to it in terms of GI but I didn't hear you mention in terms of reducing blood/glucose.
When I click on more for info on you in this video, a page popped up that says description at the top but it is totally blank. Is it a problem with my CZcams settings do you think?
Good video doctor.
Thank you!
Anyone have a recommendation for a brand with lead free psyllium husk?
What kind of fiber?
What time is good to take Berberine 500mg ?
not all fiber is created the same. psyllium which is what most people take, Konsyl. Konjac or glucomman absorbs 50 times it's weight and is the best fiber for weight loss. Berberine and fiber are not mutually exclusive. One can take both. Amla should be considered with berberine. ;)
gonna start a gofundme to get you a razor. ;)
also eating beans and legumes gets you more fiber with whole foods instead of supplements. Dr. Dave rules, like the Miami Vice look doc. ;)
both
So Doc, are you saying the BERRian it’s 1500 mg a day or 500 each pill ???
@@mrsnoopyaaaaa 500mg, three times daily
Thank you for posting this video. It is very valuable. ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Both
Just remember people who take blood pressure medicine better check with your doctor FIRST!!
Yes, always check with your doctor before starting any supplements. Thanks for watching!
Would Psyllium husk powder be a good choice for the fiber intake? Also, which fiber, soluble or insoluble or both added together? Thanks!
You can try acacia fiber 🙌
@@brandonleemoss Thank you!
A few of us that took Berberine had a lot of side effects. Additionally my doctor stated that people who take Statins must be very careful with Berberine Interactions
Any thoughts. Thanks.
Great question! I'm not aware of any adverse reactions by combining the two, but always check with your doctor before starting a new treatment. Here's a relevant article on the topic: Yang L, Zhu W, Zhang X, Zhou X, Wu W, Shen T. Efficacy and safety of berberine for several cardiovascular diseases: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. Phytomedicine. 2023 Apr;112:154716
i think for keeping the blood sugar low and to lose some weight, the fiber is a good idea to combine it with a protein shake. if it is the right fiber mixture, it gives you an instant feeling of satiety that not every protein shake does when taken without fiber.
Great point. I do the same thing :)
people average 16 to 17 grams of fiber per day?!?!
Like wow! If that doesn't indicate a poor diet I don't know what would.
Should be getting at least 20 grams per 1,000 calories and that should be from food, not supplements.
No wonder why some people are in such poor health.
does the fiber block absorption of other nutrients?
It's a common misconception. Our digestive tract is designed to work on way more fiber than I'm recommending. You'll get plenty of nutrients even with the extra fiber - I promise!
Hi. Joey here from Adelaide South Australia. Great info. I take 2 NUZENA 1200mg Berberine per day and it's been the BEST for me to date as a Type2 diabetic. The fibre you suggest has an interesting WARNING: Consuming this product can expose you to chemicals including LEAD which is known to the State of California to cause cancer.....Any comments please. Joey
Good point! I sometimes forget that not everyone is used to the legal climate here in California. Now I hardly notice them anymore. Even coffee has the same warnings: www.wsj.com/articles/starbucks-coffee-brands-fight-california-ruling-on-cancer-warnings-1523880000
I take berberine every day. Also psilium husk that I mix in with whey protein, creatine and collagen peptides. I am into all this and take about a dozen supplements in all. Berberine definitely helps me lose weight. I think it reduces my appetite to some degree. I eat a lot of high fiber, low carb tortillas. Do these things actually work? Or the products marketed as "net carbs?" Well, I can recommend berberine personally but with one warning: don't buy it in powder form. The taste is overpowering, like witchroot. In pill form you will never notice it.
Good to know! My wife also prefers capsules to powder for the same reason. And the high fiber tortillas are my new go-to for comfort food (can't eat perfectly ALL the time). Thanks!
that was really interesting thankyou! really liked how you went over dosage amounts a lot. I love that you did this comparison
Glad it was helpful!
Why not the more highly bioavailable dihydroberberine? I take 2 delayed release tabs/day night and morning. availale from the Oregon company who make enduracin. They are making it after a request from a research group at the University of Oregon who were investigating berberine efficacy.
Me,i usualy eats white rice with rice brand then in the evening im taking berberine.
Where can we buy fibre tablets..
There's not much fiber in tablets. I'd recommend using a powdered form. Check the links in the description for my recommendations. Thanks for watching!
Any thoughts on using Dihydro Berberine rather than regular Berberine?
I’ve heard some opinions that it is better but most research is on regular berberine. Good question!
What kind of fiber do you recommend doc?
Almonds
Psyllium husk
@@Helpmeasinner No Almonds as it has high oxalates and toxins unless you soak in sea salt for 8 hours and air dry then in the oven on low temp 130° for about 6 to 8 hours. Be very careful with nuts that are high in oxalates .
Good question. I like psyllium because it's been widely researched in diabetes and it's also widely available. Here's a coupon code for a local California brand I like: www.naturlax.com/a/drdaveclayton
@@drdaveclayton thanks so much for the coupon
Can you take Berberine and Metformin at the same time?
It's a good question. Given that they work in similar fashion I wouldn't expect to see much additional benefit in combination. Always check with your doctor! Thanks for watching :)
@@drdaveclayton Thanks for the response. While she typed Berberine into my record after telling her about it, my doctor asked me how to spell it. I don't think she'll have an answer.
Fiber is a very broad term.. Can someone tell what exactly this doc mean by it ?
I don't know about weight loss but when it comes to the kidney toxins I use acacia fiber🎉
Psyllium, Psyllium husk and oat bran contain water soluble fiber which is needed for lowering blood sugar and cholesterol.
Can you give me recommend fiber. Im taking fiber capsules but cant tell how many milligrams they are
Sure thing. I left a link in the description. Thanks for watching!
Most fiber tablets have only a gram or so of fiber. I would recommend using a powder so you can get enough fiber to make a difference. I left a link in the description. Thanks for watching!
We in the kidney community typically take acacia fiber to help us remove the toxins that's usually our go to❤
Berberine is quite pricey here in South Africa
Interesting to hear that. Thanks for the insight!
Yeah Berberine in South Africa cost $22 dollars for a month supply whilst metformin is only $2.10. Have been using Berberine for ages with no side effects. However 1500mg of Berberine per day will cost me $33 dollars per month, which is a lot in rand terms. Trying metformin and so far no side effect. So is metformin safe to use?
@@ajm1162 I've heard *some* studies found a negative cardio-exercise effect from metformin. That said, I've taken extended release version for years. Effective for blood glucose control, but causes me diarrhea.
How about acacia fiber I think that's actually made in Senegal and other African countries too😮
Did you try using chromium?@@ajm1162
Can we take berberine and fiber at same time?
Absolutely! They both work in different ways. Thanks for watching and for the question!
Thank you so much!
You sure can but you might be wasting $$$$ on that berberine. The same fiber blocks or slows sugar absorption, so it does with all other nutrients. Yr berberine will partly bond to the fiber and go down the toilet. Do not take supplements/ vitamins with fiber supplement.
Whats the best fiber supplement
I left a link in the description. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and for the great question!
Psyllium husk
@@joebartles3986 thank you
fiber changes the gut bacteria, that needs time and with this adaptation, the gut problems go away
Couldn't agree more.
Can people take Berberine even if not diabetic?
Of course! Check with your doctor first! Thanks for watching.
