    I like your reviews very much. Thank you.
    You mentioned that the keys of PX-S1100 are the “lightest” of the three digital pianos you have mentioned.
    Here are my tests for static pressure of these pianos (plus PX-S5000).
    Casio PX-S5000:
    Middle C (C4) - ~53g
    C7 - 60g
    C3 - ~60g
    C4# - 40g - 60g (middle of black key)
    Yamaha P-125a:
    Middle C (C4) - 50g
    C6 - 50g - 70g (middle of black key)
    Roland FP-10:
    C7 - 52g
    C6 - 63g
    C2 - 72g
    C3 - ~64g
    C4# - ~52g - ~64g (middle of black key)
    ---------------------------------------
    I like PHA-4 the most. It is weighted better than the other actions, I do not play sounds by barely pressing the keys (like with GHS) and the white keys are easily pressed close to the fulcrum (Casio PX-S pianos listed are very bad in this respect).
    Unfortunately, PHA-4 has this strange action clicking noise that occasionally happens. The frequency of its occurrence increases with time of piano use (as I said before - I already returned three PHA-4 digital pianos in 2021)
    I play mostly classical music pieces.
    Michael
    Ps. I do not care much about sounds of most lower end digital pianos because I use them as MIDI controllers for my piano VSTs.

      @@PianoTone i have tried out korg rh3 action and Casio pxs1000 and Yamaha p125 action.
      For what I felt korg > Yamaha > casio in terms of sluggishness, i also like medium light action so korg felt very difficult to play.
      Haven't tried Roland's pha-4 and kawai es110, after that hopefully I will be able to make my mind.

      Great review! I’ve almost made up my mind on the PXS-1100, though my reasons are different:
      1) It has the right dimensions to fit inside my work desk drawer, especially the height, which is almost half of the Roland or Yamaha.
      2) It runs on batteries. Cord-Free convenience while carrying it around.
      3) It looks nicer. Though this shouldn’t matter much to a musician, accounting this point from a presentation perspective while recording videos.

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  Před 2 lety +1

      They’re both awesome pianos with very different strengths; the portability (size and batteries) advantages of the Casio really drew me in - I’m actually planning a redesign of my homemade keyboard stand to add an extra shelf (holding mixers, audio interface etc) since the keyboard is so slim and thin (my P125 was massively thick in comparison).

But built in lessons aren’t the greatest - if you want to get started without spending a bunch on lessons, check out Birds Piano Academy - he has a free mini course on chords which will get you playing - and his other courses are not expensive and great value. I did a blues course and did a review on it (link below). In the description of that video will be links to his courses if you want to check them out.

    I've been binge researching digital pianos for several weeks now. I had some experience learning on the acoustic piano a long time ago. I am perhaps unusual in that I like playing scales and exercises and working with teaching compositions. I have bounced around in my preference but I finally have concluded that the Roland FP-10 has the best acoustic piano emulation among the entry-level choices while still allowing having the other functions to play with and some basic portability. One isntrument that intrigues me though is the Alesis Prestige Artist. What I am also realizing though is that, after reading and hearing about other people's gripes and bad experiences, reliability and durability are not something that can be addressed in an out-of-the-box review or someone's assessment of an instrument after three or four months of use.
    My impression at this point is that the Rolands and the Yamahas are the most durable. I think I will have to go that way and perhaps I will have to deal with Roland FP10 limitations in order to get the acoustic piano emulation I have been hoping for. I still would like to see a review of the Alexis Prestige Artist on this channel.

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Sounds like you’ve found the right piano! I’d love to review an Alesis Prestige - would just need to find one I can rent or borrow…. From having owned an Alesis Recital Pro, I’d be willing to bet the Prestige is a step up, but also that you’d probably still prefer the Roland.

      @one It's not written in stone yet. I've found a Roland FP-30X bundle for $699 and a Yamaha P-125 bundle for $599, both from a reliable (50 yrs in business) source. They always say, quality is remembered long after price is forgotten. If I go Roland, I might as well get the FP-30X. The FP-30X might be good for the duration. If you got too good at traditional piano, you might outgrow a Casio PX-1100 or a Yamaha P-125 and you might want to move up from an FP-10. No need to do so with the FP-30X until you reach some much higher level.
      With acoustic pianos, you don't have these kind of problems so much. Myself, I'm so good with tools and so good at visual learning I could be my own piano technician, especially with the digital aids to tuning we have now.

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@anonymike8280 They both sound like good deals (with the Yamaha, as long as it's the P-125 and not the P-125a). But sounds like you're leaning Roland, so sounds like a deal!

    • @anonymike8280
      @anonymike8280 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@PianoTone They're all deals. The thing is, there's no way to cover every possible base. You cover one, and you leave another open. That's as opposed to the acoustic piano, where they all do the same thing and it's only a matter of how much you want to or can spend and your own preferences as to the slight difference between instruments at any price point.

      @anonymike8280 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@PianoTone i ended up getting the Roland FP-30X. The FP-10 and even the FP-30 have been superseded. The local branch store of a national music chain had demonstrator models of the FP-30X and the Yamaha P-225 on display. It's been decades, but all I had to do was play a couple of notes and I could tell how far ahead of everyone else Roland's action was in terms of piano emulation. For the price point, they have it as down as much as anyone is going to get it. The store sells at internet prices and, with an available 10% discount I qualified for, I was able to get the Roland FP-30X for $629. They had the Yamaha P-225 for the same price, by the way. For my goals, I am 100 percent good with the Roland. People have to connect together their goals and their price point though. There is no one best instrument.

      Sorry to hear that! What about the piano sound don’t you like? If memory serves the FP-10 piano emphasizes the bass doesn’t it? If it is an EQ thing maybe you could run it through a mixer that has EQ settings or something? Or you could look for a MIDI sound bank that you like and listen that way?
      Hope you can get it sorted out!

      @@PianoTone playing a few notes is fine, playing something like Night and Day the bass is kind of dull but if I change the setting to a lighter key stroke the sound gets quickly very tinny :) Still, can't complain, for the price, it is really a nice piano, especially the mechanic and feel of the keys and I bought it just for practicing while traveling. It is not heavy and fits easily in the car

      Having bought one now, I think the main issues is actually the built in speakers, and their location, on headphones, it sounds much better, and placing the unit on a stand improves that over standing on a table, generally they lack Bass. Also I happen to dislike their harpsichords.... But the actual key action is the closest I've felt to a piano, and the matt feel on the fingers, I like it for my kids since they're training on pianos at school, but play this at home, switched from a Yamaha p115

    Hello! Thank you for making this video, it was very insightful.
    I had a question regarding Piano Partner 2. When you used the recording function, even though it's just a MIDI recording, the sound of the piano got recorded too (or at least it got played). Do you think it's viable to record the keyboard audio this way? By screen-recording your phone/tablet or something like that, because from what I can't tell there's no way to export the recording to actual audio. Thank you again!

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  Před 2 dny +2

      If you want to record your FP-10 with audio that;'s not really a good option. You need to get an external audio interface like a Focusrite Scarlett and then connect your FP-10 to that (headphone out using a splitter cable to L & R ins) and then connect the interface to a device with recording apps/software (DAW like GarageBand or your phone's camera for a performance video).

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  Před rokem +1

      I'm assuming this is an app like Simply Piano or Flowkey or something? Then you would connect your piano to the phone with a USB cable (like a normal printer cable) and whatever adapter you need for the phone (like a lightning adapter for an iPhone); then your keyboard will send MIDI data (the notes you play) to the app on the phone so it can recognize them.
      As far as HEARING your piano and app at the same time the easy way is to connect your headphones to the phone not the piano; most of those apps have a piano sound built in, and the app will recreate the piano sounds for you. To hear through your piano headphones you need a mixer of some sort to combine the iPhone audio with the piano audio; I made a video here: czcams.com/video/Z118ZEIieUI/video.html

      Hi there! I never owned an FP-10 (I owned an FP-30, same action but only had it for less than a year and didn't notice any issues); I have heard about FP-10's and 30's with key noise after some time though. I had my Yamaha P-125 (same action as the 45) for 2 years and no issues, and my DGX-670 (also same action) for 1 year and no issues, and I have always found Yamaha stuff to be super well made and solid feeling. But weighted keys all have alot of moving parts, grease, sensors etc - so it is probably something that happens eventually with any keyboard. If it was be making the decision I'd be opting for the P-45, but I'm a big Yamaha fan. I've never reviewed the B2; played it in store and didn't like the action much but don't really know much about it.

      It's not ideal, but you can do it - you need to use the headphone port. Hopefully your sound system will have 2 available 1/4" input channels available - then you can connect with a 1/8" stereo splitter (to 2x1/4" mono) cable.
      Headphone ports will work for this, but it's not as good a connection as you get if you have left and right 1/4" line outs. Those connections are better quality, and headphone ports are also usually amplified a bit (to drive the headphone speakers) so they're not as clean a signal as a line out.

    How do you like the FP-30X using Concert Piano, Ballad, Mellow, Bright, Upright vs the FP-30 just have Grand Piano 1, 2, and 3? I actually like the 3 Grand Piano sounds you demo'ed and thinking you'd lose it in the 30X... maybe I really should get the FP-10 now... this FP-10 demo is pretty nice... I think one of the nicest sounds I have heard: czcams.com/video/UXGokzKYCBg/video.html but I just don't know if she is using VST

    With no line outs you are stuck with the pianos onboard speakers. With a built in amplifier it sounds ok but nowhere near as rich as you would get through a dedicated soundboard. Sure you can use the 3mm earphone jack to connect to a sound system but that lowers the volume and emphasizes the oscillations in a bad way.
    The jazz organ screeches in the high key range and the other organ is only useful if you're Catholic.

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  Před rokem +2

      Yeah the headphone out does work for that, but the signal is amplified to drive the headphone speakers so never as clear or good quality as proper line outs. Roland finally added LR line outs to the FP-30x (didn't have them on the FP-30).

    Which one would you get between this one and the Donner DEP20? Thank you!

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  Před 5 měsíci +2

      I haven't actually seen a DEP-20 in person; it does have more features than the Roland, but the sounds and key action will be far better on the Roland, so . . . unless you really want the extra stuff I'd go with the FP-10.

    When you record something on the app, can you save it elsewhere on your tablet or able to send it, or it is limited to the app?

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  Před rokem +2

      Hi there! To be honest I don’t know for sure; I don’t THINK you can export MIDI recordings from the app but I could be wrong. I only rented the piano for the review so I can’t test that. To be honest though, if you want to record MIDI with the FP-10 I wouldn’t bother with the app anyways, just use the USB cable to connect the piano to a pc or tablet with some DAW software (like GarageBand on an iPad) and record MIDI that way. It will be much easier to do and to work with/edit later.

    FP-10 Bluetooth has problems

      I never use Bluetooth MIDI on any keyboard I always use a cable connection, it's always got too much lag. I have found Roland's wireless connections to be pretty undependable in general.

      @@anbalkeen If I remember correctly, you can do that within the Piano Partner 2 app, but not on the keyboard itself - I looked through the manual and reference manual and couldn't find anything, but I seem to remember you could in the app.
