  • Trinity Students' Union has ended an encampment on the college campus.
It was part of a demonstration to get the university to consider its ties with Israeli institutions - given the ongoing war in Gaza.
They had been camping on the university campus and blocking access to the Book of Kells since Friday.
Incoming SU President Jenny Maguire said they are satisfied with the wording of an agreement reached between the SU and the college.
“We are happy with the wording of it,” they said.
“The president of the college, through a student campaign, has committed to the demands.
“They’ve done it before with the colonial legacy working group, they’ve done it with the fossil fuel industry, with the arms industry, and we don’t see why this should be different.”
Jenny said there has been amazing support from students throughout the encampment.
“In terms of sleeping over, there was at least 100”, they said.
“But hundreds of other students have come by over the five days we’ve been here.
“The support has been unbelievable; we’ve almost 100 tents as well and people coming and going from those tents to support, take part, and demand more from their college.”
Trinity College has promised to stop working with Israeli companies on an EU ‘blacklist’ by June.

Everybody hating israel, the only truly democratic country in the middle East. Its like people don't realise you don't even have the right to protest in Palestine against Hamas.

Israel is a imperialist state that murdered over 30,000 innocent civilians for Hamas stealing some hostages. They get eternal funding and support from America while Americans and European natives are being replaced by immigration.

No one has an obligation to anyone. The Irish state can't affect anytheng Israel does, yet they continue to do nothing as our people are replaced, which they can actually affect. Natives of Ireland and Palestine deserve to not be replaced.

Does Bríd know what BDS actually means? It’s a completely impractical proposition. The divestment from Russia and apartheid S Africa could have never have been done unilaterally by any one country.

What happened to looking smart and giving the Dail the respect it deserves, why does it always look like less than ‘Casual Friday ‘ , it’s so shabby and embarrassing that people aren’t bothered to make an effort to look smart instead of looking like they are running into their local shop to grab a coffee……… These are our political representatives 🤷‍♂️

How is it brave if the authorities are on your side?
Bravery is when someone acts in defiance of danger or persecution.
Bravery would be to stand with an Israeli flag or at this sad stage, an Irish flag.
