- 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma rock crawler!
38" tires, ARB lockers, RCV axle shafts, Marlin Crawler RCLT and the list goes on... this truck has all the right parts to be an amazing wheeler, so is it? I just spent a week rock crawling in Johnson Valley and was getting asked questions about the truck every step of the way. In today's video, I want to show you what we have been up to and talk about my first impressions of this fresh build.
I know many of you are ready for an adventure video so that will be next đ. Enjoy!

Nate, your Mic is good bro, we can't barely hear the other vehicles or helos. No need to apologize at all man, this is your business, this is how you enjoy life and feed your Family, YOU DO YOU.
Thanks homie đ I appreciate the support
@@DirtLifestyle enjoy yourself and time with friends and family đȘ you deserve it man. Great build! I built a Tacoma trd offroad as well except mine was manual. Loved it but ended up selling it for ridiculous money đ° and got a Gladiator Rubicon manual as well. But I still enjoyed every step of your Tacoma build. Keep up the good work đ đ đ!
Cheers to that đ€đšđŠ
I really actually enjoyed the sort of background activity.
Lol...đ Good one brođŻđ€
I wish youtubers didnât feel like they have to apologize all the time. Who gets upset that a helicopter is flying around while filming? Who gets pissed that you didnât take time out of you trip to not get us long videos of your trip? I really appreciate what you do and what you have taught your viewers. Keep on keepin on! đșđž
People on the Internet are so petty. I think it has something to do with the anonymity. The stuff you read in some comments would never get said to people's faces. The lack of civility is the thing I hate the most about what has become the best way to share information man has ever had.
Fix it Again Tony said it nicely. Basically, more and more guys are turning into whiny little b*tches. Nate, you shouldn't apologize, man. We CHOOSE to watch your videos. If people want to complain about the FREE content we get from you, they can kick rocks.
THIS đ
Oh but people do. Audio is the main complaint I get still, and I put a LOT of effort into it
Not a Toyota or IFS guy, but this seems like an amazing option for those that are. Wonât deny that truck looks badass, well done!
Thanks!
absolutely my favorite guy to watch. so humble but yet amazing content. im always so excited to watch every Sunday. i live very close to you in the pnw and have been watching your content sense the first video you posted. you have come so far as you have grown but im happy to see that you havnt lost who you are through CZcams! cheers to hopefully a great 2022 experience!
Great comment!... couldnât have said it better!
Hey nate, if you do a fj cruiser transfercase swap and hardwire the front actuator you can slam it in 4 wheel drive 'manually'. The conversion is bolt on. Which would solve your abs issue and avoid being stuck in 2wd
This is the way. It's a super popular mod and plenty of info on the swap.
@@jcham979 What source has the best information on this modification? Sounds like the answer I am looking for! Thank you for any feedback!
87" wide? You're half an inch wider than my H1 - which everyone, and I mean everyone - says is "too wide to go offroad!!!111" Love the build Nate.
Lol everyone definitely says that about H1s! Perspective is everything
Hey Nate thank you for giving us the break down of all your findings about this truck and all the mods you have done! Looked like you had a blast!
Thanks for watching! It was a GREAT trip. I feel exhausted and refreshed all at the same time...
No need to apologize for taking a bit of time to take a breath! You need to keep it all in balance while you build Your business. If you donât take any downtime and keep burning the candle on both ends you will melt down⊠and we donât want that! Congrats on the Taco itâs pretty awesomeâŠ
This dude definitely seems like somebody I could be friends with. He seems very down to earth and has a great mindset about everything. Keep up the good work man. I look forward to seeing your future videos.
Don't apologize for not filming ! True fans see how much you're grinding and we appreciate how you run your stuff. You can't burn the candle at both ends. So we understand why you didn't film without even saying it.
I appreciate how you review items. You give an initial impression but hold judgement until you have adequate time to evaluate. So helpful for those of us who are looking for information on new products but want a real world, well tested, honest review. So many people I see get a new product (Sponsored or purchased) and give a final review after one quick use with no negative feedback, not helpful to me. There are pro's & con's to any product depending on the use and you can't know them all until you have tried them in different situations.
Thanks for all the great content, I really enjoy your fabrication videos. Looking forward to more content of the Tacoma.
Glad you took some time for yourself, I know how hard that can be at times. Thanks for the quick update and weâll catch you next week!! Be safe and have fun!!
Awesome run down of everything dude. Really cool to hear how everything went. Always good to take time to relax, hang with friends and just wheeling. You tube will be here, no rush on pumping out videos again. Donât burn out man.
Iâve been watching every video of this build and I could definitely say that Iâve found my favorite channel! Keep Rocking!! đȘđȘ
No apologizing. You're cool, it's fun watching the fabrication, and the truck is sweet! Looking forward to watching more
this is a badass build Nate! Turned out amazing and happy it worked for you. Looking forward to future videos of this on the trails
After following the build series Iâm very happy it impressed you. All your work and that body style look great.
Right on, dude! Solid work on the Taco. Been waiting to see this build for a minute. Enjoy your trip. đđ€
When using a resistor to mimic the stock locker, start with a larger value to minimize the current and step down as needed to get the light to turn off. You can likely drive a relay from the connector to run the air solenoid and trigger the locker light on the dash also.
Driving the air solenoid for the rear locker with the stock locker circuit is a great idea! It might even be enough to fool the computer into thinking the locker is still connected.
You canât fool the light, if it was a dummy light sure but itâs controlled by the ECM over CAN.
@@dang5351 The connector to the diff is likely 4 wires which have 2 for the locker solenoid/electromagnet and 2 for a limit switch that tells the control module if it is engaged. I have not worked on the new Tacoma but I believe this is how the older ones work.
Youâre appreciated Nate. Thanks so much for the awesome content⊠Glad you were able to unwind & enjoy yourself with family & friends.
Never been this early to a video before, glad itâs yours. Went on a binge to watch all your videosđ€Ł
Thanks man!
I clicked on expecting it was an RC Tacomađđđ I was going back and forth on that!!
Love the stance on this thing- I swear it's exactly like how I remember 80s Toyota pickups that I used have matchbox cars of, just really tall, high rear bumper, tons of clearance. And the widened track + current gen Tacoma fascia looks dope.
Completely Awesome! Looks great and happy to hear it's been performing well. Glad you were able to take some time to enjoy the event and I look forward to seeing more videos from another Tacoma owner.
Keep doing what you do Nate You do stuff most people dream of doing.Much respect for that. The truck looks great and all that work paid off.
Nate, this build is so sick. Thanks for sharing!! Been bugging the "boss" about getting a Taco...ill keep ya posted lol!!
Always the best content! Keep the videos coming!
Thank you! I'm honored đ
âïžfacts
Love your in depth, no BS, honest content!
Also, no apologies necessary man. Enjoy life!
Thanks for the update Nate!
Good on you for giving yourself some downtime with camera work. People that haven't done this type of camera work don't realize what goes into it. If you can't take the time to simply enjoy your truck with friends, and not work about working the camera all the time, it will slowly (or quickly) degrease the quality of your passion.
Side note: You really don't need to apologize so much (or at all) in your videos. I know you do your best to make high quality videos, but this is not some hollywood movie you are making, where you have a team of people working with you and work in a controlled environment. If people can't see and appreciate how much you put into your videos and feel the need to complain about it, then I genuinely feel bad for those people.
So impressed with your work on these vidâs. You are a testimonial for following your dreams. To think that just a couple of years ago you were working a 9-5 job that was a solid career and having the faith in your own ability to take a leap of faith in making CZcams a career. Very impressive work and so proud of you and your accomplishments. Keep up the great work.
Glad it turned out good and that you had a good time. People dont realize how hard it is to make videos. doing the work at 1/2 speed due to filming, and editing taking twice as long as the work sometimes. Man it takes forever and youre one of the best at it. So i really felt ya on that part at the end
Great looking rig, and don't get burned out! Take the time that you need amigo!
Thanks brother đ
a break well earned and deserved nate! great job getting to hammers on time and being able to put it to the test
What an incredible build, stoked to see more!
Great job Nate! Never apologize for having to take time away from the camera or filming. I can only imagine how exhausting it can be. Awesome review of the trucks performance this week. I was curious to how the fenders would affect your visibility and you confirmed it is an issue. I would like to see you build something. I do think a front camera would be extremely useful on this truck. Safe travels back to Washington and itâs okay to rest a bit!!
Awesome build Nate.!! Looks great and canât wait to see future mods..!!
Very cool. Really look forward to your snow test with those wheels. I use my 392 as a daily driver so those bead grip wheels intrigue me. And I live in Montana so snow wheeling is important.
Nate, that turned out awesome. Don't sweat the videos. Take time and be with friends. Working the kinks out of your truck just means more shop videos and wheeling to come. Thanks man.
Camera up front is a great investment! Had similar issue with my truck, the width and the trying to see what's infront, fitted a camera through my head unit and it's been perfect so far
Your efforts donât go unnoticed. Good job! đđ»
Great video as always. Thanks for taking the time to make it out there in Johnson Valley.
Great video session, thank you, been looking forward to it all week. Good grief NO APOLOGY necessary. Glad to see and hear you had a great time. Thank you, thank you!
Enjoy it while you can man! Life ain't all about CZcams even if you give us interesting content! Have to take time for yourself!
Dream truck ! Outstanding job! Really impressive!!
Super cool. Love the look of the truck. Thanks for the update!
Amazing work man it looks great! Canât wait to see it on the trail!
Thanks for the great videos. It makes me feel like I want to be a welder/fabricator. The Tacoma looks out of this world. You mention you want to remove the bed and that is a great idea. I watch the Australians of the channel 4wd 24-7 and what they do to their trucks to make them self sufficient on the outback and the bed of your Tacoma is perfect for something like that. Thanks again for the great info and entertaining us. BTW love they way you put family firstâŠ..never change that.
The truck turned out amazing Nate, great to hear your thoughts on it! Hopefully youâre feeling rested and creatively refreshed. Canât wait to hang at EJS next week buddy!
Great wrap up of an awesome build. Your content, from conception to fabrication and modification then culminating in real off road driving, is second to none! Bravo Sir. Love your channel and full respect for all your tireless work.
The hood wrap is the equivalent to the Nazi symbol lol far from the flag of Japan
@@Chinese_Chicken I was using the phrase "wrap up" as in conclusion to the build series, not the vinyl wrap. Just sayin Bro. I personally think the hood should be a stylized Stars and Bars. But that's just me....and I am Canadian.
Loved the build man! Looks awesome! đđ»đđ»đđ»
I am glad you took time for yourself on this trip.
This is one of the coolest rigs ive ever seen, not usually a Taco guy but you are making me want to get one
Great closing statement! Sometimes you have to reset and enjoy the hard work and beauty. No need to apologize! Great video and sick taco!!!
You are absolutely one of my favorite brother! Thank you for sharing all of your amazing knowledge.
No apology needed. Great truck you have created, canât wait for the next video with the truck.
Glad you are getting a break and having some fun. Looking forward to the long term review.
Everyone deserves a vacation bro. I hope you had a good time.
This is the truck that changes my mind about Toyotas. What an amazing truck :)
It takes a huge set of stones to tear into a brand new $50k truck. I love the project!! Donât burn out man!!!
thank you for commenting on wheeling wide and long, I've been thinking about getting a full-size and wasn't sure about wheeling such a big truck, now I'm more confident about getting something bigger!
This is one of the coolest builds I have seen... I'm from Australia and wish we had some of the stuff you guys in US get for your Tacoma's. Love the front end set up
Best part of it is your having fun seeing friends hanging out. Couldn't make it this year but next year we will be there. Stay safe my friend have a safe drive home. Oh i forgot AMAZING TRUCK.
Been waiting for this one !
What a great looking Truck. Amazing job!
Thank you!
HI NATE đ
JUST ENJOY YOURSELF đ THAT'S WHAT IT'S ABOUT ! BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BE WITH YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES đ ENJOYED ! THANK YOU đ
Nate, relax and enjoy your awesome build. No apologies. Look forward to your next adventure/build.
I am such a Toyota Tacoma lover. Super cool to see this build
Keep the trail video RAW - let the natural sounds of the rocks/road/etc. fill the background and we will all be very content!
Nate you are awesome!! I totally understand being a 1 man show!
i'm not a yota guy but that is one B-A truck right there! nicely done man!
Thank you Nate for the video enjoy your vacation you deserve it.đđ
Amazing job on the build! Never apologize for taking a break, everyone needs one.
Also, if you come up North Iâd be happy to show you some trails this way. đđ»
Donât lie, itâs because MORR uses the milestars on all his vehicles đ this is such a great looking truck, fantastic build and thanks for all the updates with the new IFS. Cheers!
Take the time you need your content is AWSOME!
This truck looks badass, now I really need to start working on more mods for my 3rd gen tacoma, congrats!!
Awesome rig build brotha! Looking forward to the evolution process!
Great job Nate! I didnât get to see the vehicle at the hammers but keep the videos coming! Thank you.
Nate, your Toyota IFS rig is an extremely well built, bad ass truck. Youâre a talented builder. Iâve been racing my 1987 IFS pickup in MORE over the last few years & always amazed at the reliable performance of the Toyota motor, drivetrain & IFS systems which has 300K+ miles. You will get decades of performance out of you rig with very few mechanical issues.
Looking forward for the snow trip!!
Itâs a cool looking truck. You did a really good job with it. Itâs not entirely my taste. But itâs still cool. I just hope you put this much love into the rebuild of the Jeep, because thatâs the reason I was here in the first place. The builds, the fabrication, the adventures, and you as a person in general is what has kept me. But itâs still the Jeep that brought me here đ
The desert has such a unique beauty. Definitely gonna visit out that way one day.
This channel is so good we'll be content to live off crumbs for a while. We want you 100% in the future to do what you do best.
Matt's off road recovery also uses those milestar tire, so they must be pretty good.
They may be, but I wonder if Milestar, Bilstein, Barnes, etc is all pimping product to these you tubers. Not that I don't love Barnes 4wd, but you see all these youtubers pushing the same products. I tend to take the word of people who dont have a vested interest, although Nate has always been straight up.
Thanks for the great work
Glad you talked about the increased track width. I'm only going 4" wider, not 7"...though I could go to 8" (not going to). I guess I'll also be using a wider tire, so will probably be a bit more than 4" total increase. I suspect when Hell freezes over and I can actually get my project done, I am going to be surprised how well my Overlander will crawl just based on that Yota alone!
I like 4-wheeling and I am glad you aren't just a jeeper, truck guy or overlander but an open minded 4X4 do it all kind of fun stuff sort of guy...
Dam this taco needs more spotlight. Great build
Gald you got a break from the late nights and long days! Background noise was not a problem. Love the truck. Love the channel!
amazing truck, well done dude.
Itâs always good to take a vacation!
Hell yeah man, you deserve the break from filming after all the work you put in. I'm not personally a huge fan of the 3rd gen Tacos, but that thing looks fucking sick, definitely what I'd do with one if I had an unlimited budget! I look forward to hopefully being able to make it to one of your patreon rides and seeing it in person!
đ Holly spilled the beans in the KOH live chat yesterday. Lots of love.
Keep it up đ đđžđȘ
love the vids and the explanation of gear...
Hey good job brother... I myself have the Gen 3 2017 and slowly fixing it up...no rock crawler though but going to put the beefed up weld kit from Marlin just to make the control arms stronger with stock. Nate it would be nice to get different thinner fenders like you said if there is someone making them. I did go with CBI on bumpers and good idea about the front cam. Plus steel skid plate not flimsy alum. I have those Methods too..nice. Need to run my exhaust different and run the ARB front...4.88s. Don't want to trailer this truck. But thanks for all you do and keep it up. I know it takes a lot of energy doin this stuff...take care.
Amazing work and thank you for sharing! I subscribed .
Love the truck! Canât wait to slap some of these parts into my second gen.
Thatâs one BAD ASS truck !!!
I cannot wait to see some action with this thing!! Well done. Itâs is both completely badass and utterly ridiculous đ€Ł
Awesome build Nate.
đ
Quality over quantity for shure! Im looking foward to see that potential flat bed project!
