    This post gave me chills! I am so over the moon that they are doing the original finale as shown here! They did not do it in the recent Broadway version, and and I found that to be a bummer. So to hear and see this made me so happy! So much gratitude for this post from California🙌🏿

    I saw the first preview of "Hello Dolly". It was fabulous. This is an unashamedly old fashioned musical with a big heart. It was good to have Imelda Staunton back where she belongs!

    Dame Imelda Staunton is a fantastic performer. First her incredibly brilliant Madame Rose in "Gypsy" and now her wonderfully brilliant Dolly in "Hello Dolly!"

      @andrewhowells8328  Před 17 dny

      @kaitlynrowena5463 I’m afraid these were production seats. I’m disabled and they moved me after I struggled where I was. Row A, if there are any left are only £20. The view is not too bad and well worth the price. Also try TodayTix.

    • @andrewhowells8328
      @andrewhowells8328  Před 17 dny

      I just checked and there are still quite a few seats left in Row A at £20, at the end of the row they are £15, in August

      @frankedwards2032 Před 17 dny +2

      I'm going on the 3rd, August to the Matinee!! I was in an Amateur Production in 1971 in Cardiff, now at 76 I'm going to rekindle my Youth!!!!

    • @vickifriend9285
      @vickifriend9285 Před 16 dny

      If you look, especially on TodayTix and ALW you can find front row for about 20/25. Do NOT go for the 3 end seats in rows A/C. I had B8. Tight leg space but fine view tho I moved myself to row F as there were 2 aisle seats free! A tip, if you’ve the nerve and don’t live miles away wait till 2/3 hours before the show, they’re discounted. Same with most theatres. £179 Moulin Rouge were £59

    Fashionable women in New York weren’t wearing bustles by the turn of the century. That’s an eccentric choice.

    • @zayazdacamara4374
      @zayazdacamara4374 Před 16 dny +6

      The play that the musical is based on (The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder) takes place in the 1880s during the height of the late bustle period. Even though Hello Dolly's original production design changed it to the turn of the century, the latest Broadway production staring Bette Midler switched it back to the source material's time period. And it seems that this production has also decided to make that change.

  • @johnnywhite58

    I'm sorry but unless you have permission THIS IS UNFAIR and a copyright breach even if its just the encore.?

    • @andrewhowells8328
      @andrewhowells8328  Před 8 dny +2

      I always try to ask the ushers if you can film or photograph the bows and encore. They nearly always say that’s fine but you couldn’t film the show. Some theatres even announce no photography until the encore. I suppose it’s good publicity. Some places cover your phone camera to stop filming, Cabaret did but stopped.
      On this occasion I check as normal and was told that it would be OK and as I filmed it there was an usher by the side of me.
      There is an issue though, I actually started filming when I thought it was the encore but I now think it was the last scene possibly.

      these larger than life eccentric women are fast becoming extinct....the fact the Staunton is playing this now...an inexplicable choice...is a sign of desperation I fear....she is about as wrong for this as you can get...as she was for Gypsy..these shows don't need method acting

    I’m sure Imelda is wonderful. But wow, the sets and costumes for this production are hideous (not only as seen in this video, but in the production photos that have been released elsewhere.) Imelda and Dolly deserved better than this. She doesn’t even wear the iconic red dress and red feathers for the celebrated title number. Instead, it’s fluorescent shiny green. Imelda looked like a lime popsicle. There’s a reason why nobody has seen a photo of that normally transcendent moment … because it is truly awful. Some things are sacred. Dolly coming down the stairs in the red dress is one of those sacred moments.
