  • ⚡FYI: Spotify is no longer supported in any DJ software ⚡
Are you a complete beginner, who's thought about giving DJing a go, but been put off as soon as you realised you couldn't just hook your Spotify music collection up to whatever DJ software or gear you've got? That you had to use iTunes and a local library instead?
Maybe you feel like you have what it takes to DJ, but you've never paid much attention to track titles, artist, record labels and so on - but you sure know where to find some killer Spotify playlists you'd like to DJ with!
Or maybe you're just tired of people playing lame CZcams videos through Bluetooth speakers at parties, and are desperate to have a go at DJing instead, figuring Spotify must surely be the way forward?
If so, watch on - in this extended "tips and tricks" tutorial, I'll show you how to get started with just your Spotify subscription, an iPad (or Android tablet, or even smartphone), a great value DJ app called djay (djay 2, djay Pro), and whatever speaker or speakers you've got knocking around.
We'll start by learning some basic transitions, and once we have, we'll move on to more advanced stuff: Plugging in better speakers, plugging in headphones, and how to "pre-listen" to tracks, just like real DJs do. You'll be rocking your next party before you know it!
It works on iOS (iPod Touch, iPad, iPhone), Windows, Android or macOS.
LOOK! A FREE BOOK AND EXTRA TRAINING VIDEOS FOR YOU:
Of course as we're the world's biggest online DJ school, we can teach you so much more!
Plus, in a short CZcams video I really can't show you anything more than how to simply get started.
So I want you to have a copy of my Amazon bestselling book on DJing, for free.
It's got everything in it you need to get ready for playing in "real" venues (and yes, you can do that with a setup like this...).
Not only that, but it contains links to five exclusive EXTRA videos explaining more advanced mixing techniques - so when you do land those "real" gigs, you'll have some skills to show off!

So I did a gig with DJay Pro 2 Friday night leaving Serato off for first time. In thought it went great, my Itunes BPM Supreme library is local so only online for Spotify tracks, worked flawlessly. I mapped my controller myself as its yet mapped for plug n play. Play with video features guys, it's pretty incredible.

I new about the Spotify integration for a while, but I never thought to try it out. I activated premium on my account about 5 days ago. That is one service I won't regret paying for. being able to have access to any track I want immediately when I'm in the mix is indispensable. As a completely blind dj using Djay pro, the way I would use headphones during a live event is I would have Voiceover, Apple's build in screen reader in the headphones so that any audience I have wouldn't hear it, while having the output from Djay pro coming through the main speakers.

I am (was) a big fan of the Algoriddim software. I use the Djay 2 but would gladly use the pro version. However, I use it in the iDjay pro controller so I’m not sure it works with that.
I too thought I was playing my downloaded Spotify songs due to never having a play back issue in the past. However, the soft ware has become very unreliable over the past month and of course I learned that it’s from the Spotify connection. I always run on my cellular signal and it use to work fine. I mean for 3 plus years. Music just stops playing at random and this has happened numerous times at 3 different shows
Algoriddim apologizes and each time says it has a fix.
Time to join the Serato world.
Need a good music pool service for just basic party and wedding DJaying where I can download to my Mac but also stream request.
    Any suggestions?
Again, I loved the Algoriddim app and I hope they resolve the issues soon.

George, I am with you at the mo with this one. I too have had zero problems over the past couple of years. No dropouts or tracks stopping suddenly until the last couple of gigs (Embarrassing at one as it was a wedding couples 1st dance) Has to be a problem with the last update. I use a 'mi-fi' which has never let me down for a signal. I rely so much on spotify as my music supply and can't afford to by stacks on itunes. i thought of loading tunes on to an external drive but that will take forever and a day to organise. I also love the 'beatmatch' part of DJ Pro too. Hope some sort of 'update fix' comes along very soon.

Exactly and a very good and stable wifi connection/router... Alone at home that 'll work. But in venues...don't go that route.
I dj-ed dancenights in two different locations, using the venue's wifi. At the first venue I asked for a different channel than the public wifi, and it worked flawlessly. At the second I used the public wifi channel, and boy, did I regret that! The connection dropped out, got too slow and the music stopped several times... disastrous... I've also tried using my 4G phone with thethering, but the connection too was not fast and stable enough. Never work that way again. It's not worth the risk, the worries and getting a bad reputation..

Hi Phil, great video. I’ve been messing around with Djay all day (I’m not a professional DJ, I just want to do it as a hobby). But it has just come to my attention that you cannot save or export your mixes if you used Spotify. Do you know if there are any loopholes to this and I can use a USB or something to get it on to my laptop or is it illegal to do so if Djay doesn’t have a Spotify license? Because I’ve made some pretty sick mashups today, if I do say so myself, and it would be so annoying if there was no way to save them to my phone/laptop. I also need to find out if the songs I’m using are copyrighted because I want to post my mashups onto CZcams if possible. Oh and are there any specific gadgets I should invest in for what I’m trying to do? Sorry for the long question I’m just really baffled by this 😂

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  Před 4 lety +1

You're right that it's down to licensing Sophie (why you can't record), the songs will be copyrighted and it's likely your mixes will get taken down if you try to upload them - sounds like you're enjoying it a lot maybe you're ready to progress onto some more "pro" gear and get your mixes out there :)

While I agree Spotify is limited in clean tracks there are plenty to be found but it takes digging. The trick is search full song title (dont select the track based on predictive text). Then scroll till you likely find a clean one buried in list. Also to be lazy just type "edited pop" or whatever genre and maybe add year some searches, you'll find some playlists with hundreds of edited tracks already found by others. While you cant find every track you need I have found several hundred so I plenty of options.
