How I fixed my Mavic Pro Drone after crash | Gimbal & Camera Repair Tutorial

- Hey guys! This time, I try fixing my crashed DJI Mavic Pro drone on my own!
So a little while ago, while flying my drone back, a system battery error occurred at around 25% of battery. I was super tense, not knowing exactly what to do, so I kept on flying back until eventually, the battery level dropped all the way down to 5% in a matter of seconds, the drone disconnected from powering off and fell straight out of the sky (from 70M up). Fortunately, it landed on a soft mound of soil, so lucky for me...
After finding the poor electric bird, I started her up to see what could be wrong, sure enough, everything at the front part of the drone pretty much wasn't working. Including the gimbal, camera, and front vision sensors.
In this video, I show you all how I repair the drone and guide you through step by step from the stage of it being disassembled.

Wow that looked fun to repair
Not exactly fun, it was quite a skill test though it interesting to fix.
But I'm glad I made it seem fun! đâ

Great video. Any idea which capable could possibly control video recording? Iâm having issues trying to switch to video mode after a crash. Iâm still capable of taking pictures, just not switching to video mode. Not sure if itâs software or if a simple cable would resolve this issue. Any help is appreciated.
Hi, thanks for your comment. The multi-stranded silver cable with the wider connector ends is the actual video signal cable. From what you mentioned, you reminded me of a similar issue I also had before I fixed my drone, though it was more of a camera disconnection thing that would happen in mid-flight. I could see what was going in with the camera but had little to no control over the record button and other camera-related settings.
The issue you're facing might be able to get solved by you replacing the video signal cable, no guarantees, but by the sound of it and experience, that's what I believe it is.
Your drone gimbal camera's video signal cable is most likely what got damaged.
Does your gimbal unit still work? Can you tilt and pan?
Cheers,
Max
thank you bro. you helped me to repair my drone which was crashed due to fake battery (non original) now i am going to order the parts from onile to install them.
Knock off parts can be a problem, yeah... I'm glad to hear my video helped! Cheers.
I'm glad it worked
Thanks! :)
Great video, helped me a lot. I replaced the video and the flex cable, but unfortunately Iâve got no movement in the gimbal or a video feed in the dji app, the app just says âcamera sensor errorâ. I wonder if that means I need to replace the actual circuit board that the gimbal is attached to, or the actual lens. Any thoughts?
Hi there. Thanks for your feedback. That is strangely odd... If you're in luck that may just be the cable... Are you sure you haven't pinched the new video signal cable with the plastic covers as you were installing it? I suggest you check this first. Cheers.
You should open start your own repair service for all this stuff you do. I use to fix computers at your age and iPods/iPads for a while and made bank. Broke my Mavic pro a little worse than yours back when it was $1200 but been too busy and lazy to fix it myself.
Hi, that's a real shame you have a broken Mavic. It happens to all of us Arial photographers eventually. Just isn't easy to avoid crashing one at least once throughout flying all of the time, haha.
I am already repairing people's broken appliances, so far it's only a side-business, though going well. :)
Thanks for your comment.
Motivated me to try and repair mine again. Had the gimbal overload warning after a fall. Replaced the cable, same issue. Replaced the camera, same problem but lost video feed. Maybe I should buy a new video signal cable and try again.
Hi there. Be very gentle with installing the cables back together in the gimbal. Any wrong placement of a panel over a wire could cause one of the video signal cable strands to get pinched, resulting in a broken cable. There's a high chance of this happening.
Coincidentally, today I had to fix my Mavic for the third time since I bought it, I very gently attached each panel back on an carefully put on the right side panel (the trickiest one) over the video signal cable while making sure none of the strands got pinched via the thread inserts.
Hope you get your drone's camera working once you install that new cable!
Cheers,
Max
@@MaxImagination Thanks for the advice Buddy. I have an Air 2s which I recently bought and a Mavic Air 2 for sale, but I prefer the flight experience of the Mavic Pro more than both. I was selling it as damaged with a load of gear but I really want to keep it.
Great đ! Max :)
Thanks, Alish! âșđ
Nice
Hi Max , would the Camera Sensor Module be the cause of a Blurry Image ?
Hi Jeremy, most likely it's either you have a tiny dot of fog behind the glass of your drone's camera (which can be gotten rid of by keeping in a sealed box of rice) or it's some thing wrong with the lens.
What parts did you need I think I have the same problem
Hi, to fix this issue you'd need a decent electronics screwdriver repair kit with the right tiny screw tips.
Mavic Pro video signal transmission cable and Gimbal motor flex cable.
Greetings please I need to replace mine how much will it cost me to buy the gimbal stabilizer.
Hi there. Looking from my end, it would cost $55 USD for a replacement gimbal unit (no camera). Link - amzn.to/3DBRQHw
Wery goodđđđȘđȘđđđ
I appreciate it!
I changed the Video Signal Cable and the Ribbon Cable but still a Blurry Picture
â€ïž
well i crashed my electric beautiful bird yesterday unfortunately and i think i have the same problem and my propellers are damaged so i will change that
Sorry to hear that! Hope all goes well with your repair!
Cheers,
Max
@@MaxImagination Thanks man i needed that
OK, gonna be a long one, here.....
My problem is that I have control over the gimbal (Mavic Pro), but I have no video feed from the camera. It flies OK, and all the controls (including the gimbal wheel) seem to be OK. The rear light, instead of being either a steady or at least flashing green is flashing red/yellow.
I got it from a friend who had flown it BVLOS out to about 5 miles and while returning, the battery reached critical level and it attempted to land wherever it was at the time. He was able to override that and get it back to the launch point and land safely, but with only about 3% battery remaining. He said he was trying to disable the auto-land at critical battery while connected to his computer, when it just wouldn't connect any more (to the computer or the RC).
When he gave it to me, I downloaded the DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic Pro and connected it to that laptop. I got the 'device connect' sound, so it seemed like it connected OK.
The app recognized the drone and let me into the program, and I was able to do an optical sensor (front and bottom) calibration and it also let me do a Factory Reset (but there were no firmware updates shown).
I disconnected it from the computer, powered up the RC and the drone, and the RC seemed to connect to it, and I was able to get the motors to run and the controllers seemed to be working. I took it outside, connected the props and powered everything up again, and after the RC said "GPS Mode", I did a takeoff to only head height, and the controls seemed to work the way they were supposed to, but as I mentioned, the rear light was flashing red/yellow instead of green, and I still had no video feed from the camera, even though the gimbal was reacting normally to the wheel (down/up).
What else could there be wrong with it that's not letting me get the video feed.
My friend DIDN'T crash it, he was able to land normally after that loooong flight.
Hi, sorry to hear about the little incident with the mysterious camera feed error.
Normally, when the yellow light flashes at the rear, there is a persisting error that is occurring due to some miscommunication with a sensor or module in the drone. I have the same light blinking till now since my crash because of the damaged front vision sensors.
Haha, that's very common amongst us Mavic Pro users. Typically, the camera's video signal cable is so fragile, that a small crimp or pinch from a drastic jerk in mid air, crash, or improper handling is all it takes to damage it to the point it's no longer usable.
By the sound of it, you'd most likely need to purchase a new camera video signal transmission cable, purchase links can be found in the description below my video.
There is a chance, though very low that it could be a firmware issue, please double check that first before buying the Mavic a new cable.
Hope this helps!

@@MaxImagination Turns out, the drone hadn't been powered up on over a month, so all I had to do was to calibrate the compass; I now get the green light.
Now, I'm having some video feed problems that I have to work out.
