This would be a good video for getting people hooked on OSP. It's short and simple, being white-void era, but it's definitely funnier than average, is a rather obscure story, and showcases some of Red's improved effects that are everywhere in later videos!
@@Vinemaple Wait what do you mean by "white voide era" ?
@@glorysolly1855 Before Red created the fireside chat background and key frames, she used these images of her character talking in a "white void," as in, with a plain white background.
More recently, Red abandoned those images entirely, in favor of using the fireside chat background for everything, because the older images aren't up to her current personal standards of quality.
On the other hand, Blue has abandoned the fireside chat background, because he accidentally ruined the image files of his character sitting in the chair, and Red's old white-background animations for Blue are newer than the ones she did for herself, and still look OK to her. Plus it's easier for Blue to throw other images on the white background, or to ask Red for a custom white-background image.

I feel like the number one reason Loki goes on adventures with Thor is that he gains an unholy amount of glee watching his nephew-by-blood-oath suffer even the smallest of inconveniences
Probably also because he hopes that Thor will solve any problems that might occur because Loki has no impulse control.
Considering that Thor is a dumbass compared to the other aesir I guess Loki just finds more pleasure at being with Thor
Also, like, they're genuinely awesome bash brothers (not literally) who tend to get along pretty well iirc. There's a reason that Thor not being able to cool Loki down in Lokasenna is a pretty big deal; Loki actually, like, respects him.

Plus, Thor's just a fun dude to hang around if you're into chaos and bloodshed.
@@clockworkkirlia7475 exactly! Thor is actually very fond of Loki and they both respect each other. Even tho Loki is Thors uncle they have a brother like relationship

Oh, I love this story! It's like one of the earliest trolling stories.
"Odin didn't raise no quitter, but he definitely raised a fool or two." That just sums up so much of Norse mythology.
That's why I love Norse mythology. It's kinda like Greek mythos where the gods are still extremely fallible and constantly fucking up with cataclysmic consequences for the mortals living on earth, only with a lot more humor and a LOT less rape.
@@WobblesandBean Very true. There are more stories involving women that get retold to this day, though, in Greek mythology.
Hinduism is probably best for low amounts of rape, most humor, and amount of stories involving goddesses being pretty awesome.
Sums up Norse mythos about as well as Greek mythos being Zeus saying "imma put ny dick in it!"
@@MsPageMistress Hinduism is wayyyy too awesome for a country like India.
@@MsPageMistress "It's like one of the earliest trolling stories."
Kind of fitting, considering this is the same mythology that literal trolls come from. XD
Honestly the best part of the story is this random mortal child just hopping right at the chance to challenge a giant's thanes after a literal god just god demolished moments before, and despite losing, Utgard-Loki is a good sport and compliments his effort.
Later there is a part where Thor fights a giant and sicks Thjalfi och the giant's animated clay golem and he actually holds his own. Point is, Thjalfi would be OP if he actually chose to hang out with normal humans
He would need to be OP if he's a Servant of Thor
100th like
Could be wrong, but I think I once read that he is a small giant, not a mortal
@@august1837 Not familiar with any such story. He is clearly introduced as the child of humans in the Utgarda-Loki story. Maybe there are fantasy writings using the character?
In the original myth, Elli (old lady) gets Thor only down on one knee, so not exactly an ass whooping and Utgard-Loki was also horrified that Thor nearly managed to conquer death
Maybe this is where Marvel got their “age makes Asgardians stronger” concept
Also, it's just a wrestling match, not an all out fight where Thor could use Mjolnir and lightning.
The myths mentions multiple times that Thor is the strongest ( more powerful ) being in existance.
@@catherinecao4810 Marvel didn't got that, this isn't true at all in the comics.

That’s actually a relatively common theme in the Norse Mythos. I mean ultimately that’s what Ragnorok is about. Everyone is aware of it, and it cannot be averted. Willow DiAngelo YO I GOT THAT AD TOO WTF😂😂
I got it right after reading your comment, lol
NO! In the topic of Norse Myth that man is never to be mentioned!
i like how everytime you animate the gods having a party it's always a sick rave
Of course its a sick rave. There is no superior form of party.

i love how when i read this there was a historian note that basically said "now we don't know who this king was, but we think that Loki was SOMEHOW involved"
I just realized that since the party hadn't eaten anything since Thjalfi's house, maybe Loki wasn't bragging about his speed-eating powers, he was just very hungry and needed an excuse. Kind of like participating in an eating contest for the free food.
You forgot to mention that Loki told one of the kids to break the bone and eat the marrow in order to become as strong as Thor for a laugh. The kid didn't just decide to do it.
Depends on the version of the myth you're reading. In most I've seen the kid is just hungry enough to go for it.
@@JLT0087 considering that he was able to not only completely disregard the warnings of a god because food, but do well in a race against the personification of thought, it kinda feels like he's the mortal version of Thor.
@@JLT0087 The Norse myths are also set a long time ago. Bone Marrow was probably a delicacy with a lot of flavor and nutritional value. Animals LOVE it, after all.
@@CrazyRiverOtterwhen cooked right, and a little seasoning, the shit is good on bread. Mmmmmm, blood making meat goop spread.
@Hetahetalia Also because Loki's the evil god and Lucifer's the evil angel. Even though Loki's role was a bit more nuanced and specific than "evil god". (Then again, Satan got his start as the celestial equivalent of a state prosecutor, so he's drifted from his original characterization too.)
I love how Entropy is a friendly old wrasslin' grandma.
She's a stunt granny. ;)
“It does that cat thing where it goes liquid” killed me
Catmungandr has always been my favorite norse myth tbh. I even named my cat Jormungandr in honor of it! We call him Jorge for short.
How do you pronounce 'Jorge?' is it "Yorg?' 'hor-hay?' 'george?'
Also that's adorable!

Wait... Did Ufgar loki just say "wierd flex but ok"? IN ANCIENT ENGLISH SOUNDING NORSE!
Nice
So I tried to find a online text translator so I could comment that sentence in old norse. Turns out, not so easy.
James Dean *in North’s voice from Rise of the Guardians* A+ for effort. Well done James Dean
@@thatoneweirdasexual1404 So Alec Baldwin pulling off a Norse-ish accent? Yeah, I can live with that
I fail to find the "Ancient English" here, unless I misunderstood your comment.
It's a quote from one of the Hobbit movies. How it came to be that it directly translates to "weird flex but okay" is a mystery
4:05 I like to imagine the whole mead hall roaring with laughter and cheers of 'skjald!' while the storyteller rattles off the tale of when Thor got his ass kicked all damn day
Norse mythology feels a lot more... fun? Like genuine entertainment? compared to the deeply religious myths coming out of the Mediterranean
Polytheism tends to be much more fun than monotheism. And Norse mythology is basically two related but seperate pantheons together so twice the fun?
Hahaha truue!
"Oden didn't raise no quitter, but he definitely raised a fool or two" best line of the video

It is my favourite line in all of the Myth videos of CZcams.
Heimdall: (Sees everything on earth go crazy)
Heimdall: Either Ragnarok is about to start, or Thor is being played and he isn’t happy about it.
Odin: (Checks watch)
Odin: Eh, it's just Thor being trolled, Ragnorak isn't for another few thousand years.

Craziest road trip ever. Imagine the guys coming back and the other gods are like "What happened to you?" And Thor says "We became parents and I almost messed up the world."
Gods: "Wat"
Thor: Let's see, I wrestled with old age, almost lifted Jörmungandr, and lowered Mitgard's water level just to get drunk

Based on my (very limited) knowledge of Norse mythology isn't that kinda par for the course?
I think one of my favorite parts of this myth is that, when Thor is older, he dances with Elli. This is symbolic of him coming to terms with his mortality.
This one's just full of gems. From " unorthodox display of hubris but very well" to the liquid cat. Well done!
Sea level: drops
Some ancient Viking: oh balls, Thor’s at it again.
Well, I hear the sea level is starting to rise, so... bear with me, maybe, after all that drinking, Thor is finally starting to... you know... empty his bladder.
This is why we don't drink straight from the ocean, have that as the mythological reason.
"Man,Thor is so kewl, but isn't he kinda Over Powered"
Whatta 'bout that time when he dressed up a bride
I'm pretty sure that wasn't a very proud moment of his
Nobody saw through his disguise, even though his beard was completely visible. Still seems OP to me.
He got to murder literally everyone but one [and loki's a hard maybe on the died at least once chart] for that one.
Honestly he passed as a lady so I guess Thor’s drag skills are really good? OP
Still killed all the giants.
@@taekinuru2 He learned from the best.
We all know loki can pass as anything.
Love how Utgard-Loki still commends the kid for trying.
Is it weird that I’d like to see a Marvel mini-series featuring some of these old Norse stories portrayed by Tom Huddleston’s Loki and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor? This one and the one where they dress as women to fool a giant would be absolutely hilarious with those two!
The cat part had me absolutely ROLLING. I can’t believe something like that was in a legend!
Make you wonder about Nick Fury eye accident.....
You gotta have a cat in there!
Yeah, the norse were cool like that.
The Eddas have a part where Loki burns a dude to death, and the dude's daughter is mad, so to make her laugh he ties his balls to a goat's beard.
Look it up.
John Seymore When a cat does not wish to be picked up... a cat does not wish to be picked up. Especially a magicky cat that is also just an illusion on a snake...?
OSP: Thor hás never Struggled!
*Insert the time he literally had to be disguised as a Goddess for days, so he could flirt with a Giant to get his hammer back, during that time it’s described of how the Giant groped him and sexually harassed the God of Thunder thinking he was the God of Beauty*
yeah, but Thor got to turn him into multch, so... worth it!
LuxVertas definitely
You seem to mixup struggle with crowning moment of awesome.
Thor must make a good trap!
Wait, you mean all the grouping and sexual harassment did't tip the giant off that he was touching a burly man in a dress instead of a goddess? The disguise was hard enough to pull off with a hands-off approach, requiring a veil and Loki having to explain away several things. How in the world did this work if physical contact was involved?
In some versions Utgard-Loki actually stops the cat challenge when Thor get it to lift one leg (claiming that Thor clearly can't manage it), implying that he was scared that Thor might actually be able to lift Jormungandr, thereby pretty much tearing the world apart
1:09 I love how Loki is a mix of amused and concerned here.
He proved his strength. Sadly, it was more of his intellect that was being tested.
Give him some credit. He was absent the day Odin was passing out brains.
Thor was never very smart.
Loki was there also, so I guess he too failed there.

I'm fascinated by the entire idea of these two random kids. Like... why are they so important to include? What happened to them after this all settled? Did they get to go live with the gods? Did they have awesome epic adventures? Did they die horribly?
The good thing is they don't die, but from what i've seen they aren't mentioned in any other myths, so they probably just go back to normal or live as normal but in Asgard maybe

Ok I adore the way this person draws Loki he looks so sassy and beautiful I adore Loki!! He’s adorable
So in the version I read of this story, Thor and Loki were having a debate on which was more powerful, raw strength or cleverness. The old “brains verse brawn”. So they decided to take on Utgard-Loki’s challenges to prove their side to the other.
