The mental hurdle is to great a leap for me to overcome, regardless how "safe" or "clean" it is. No human being should have to eat someone's leftovers thrown in the trash. There's a certain dignity everyone deserves to have, and food is a basic survival need.
To us, it's extreme. To them, it's their way of life. It's all they've ever known and will likely ever know. Lastly, all that fast food cooked in toxic seed oils consumed on a daily basis causes all kinds of illnesses, from diabetes to heart disease, obesity, etc. Eating friend chicken alone does not cover the body's need for essential nutrients. These people are poor and nutritionally deficient in the most severe way. And there's nothing they can do about it because poverty. Man, this sucks.

Today this cuisine is very popular but the History of cuisine carries sad story. During Korean war there was many people dying of hunger. So Koreans had to sneak in or wait for the food waste coming out from U.S Army camp. (The food trash compose of spam ham. noodle. Hotdogs. Etc) Hungry Koreans gather all that food trash and made it as Hotpot during the harsh cold winter.. to remind. winter time in Korean peninsula is more colder than Russia. Why can't government put a policy in place, just like we have for green recycled stuff, a separate bin for PAGPAG-able foods, and other bins for all other trash? Yes in an ideal world we should not even have anything like pagpag, but the reality is quite different, poverty - extremes ones exist around the globe.

I studied at a Canadian University. Our school had an all you can eat cafeteria. The food was superb, yet many students dumped their trays with food barely eaten, untouched - entire burgers, dishes, pasta, etc. Just outside the building there were carbon protesters. I'm too sick and tired to even get into the hypocrisy, but if people could just take a look this, how desparate people from other parts of the world are about food, maybe they would value their food more and start acting by simply not wasting, rather than having the meaningless protests.

As a Chef here in Napa Valley region I have nothing but admiration to the tenacity and resilience of the Poorest of the poor Filipinos. Their way of survival without government’s assistance is remarkable. The recycling process and recooking at very high temperature kills all bacteria after all making it deliciously crispy good and sustainable. Nothing to be ashamed of. Chef M.

In 1940-1960 in Asia the 2 most powerful countries are Japan 🇯🇵 and Philippines 🇵🇭. The slum like that in Vietnam 🇻🇳 yes before 2000! But nowadays, Vietnam 🇻🇳 is not really rich yet but we do have a house to live and decent foods (fresh foods) to eat. I agree with Andrew! I’ve been living in palawan Philippines for 6 months in summer 1991 and it’s hot more than mine Đà Nẵng city. And of course at that time I landed at Manila’s airport and Manila City were far more than Ho Chi Minh City at the time.

I grew up in poverty in Metro Manila but never never tried this. I remember watching a documentary about this at our neighbor's because we didn't have TV. For 50 pesos, there are other food options that can feed a family and are safe and healthy. These people are just way too stupid to resort to this. I lived in a family of five and my parents would often cook us omelet, sardines with vegetables, hotdogs, pinakbet, chop suey, fried tofu, etc. All with simple ingredients and costs around 50-60 pesos to this day. Twice a month they would spend 150-200 pesos to cook us chicken or pork dishes. This lifestyle helped us prevent heart and other diseases. Compare that to eating 50 pesos of trash per meal everyday. These people just prefer this kind of food. It's not like they don't have other choices.

i don't think should ever have to endure these conditions and eat garbage when everyday each house hold throws away so much food that couldn't be consumed. i think its up to each of us to do the right thing and give food away food each week we know we won't eat. By making it a routine to give away unwanted food we can give people better alternatives to eating garbage.

Most bacteria will die under fried oil cook. I don't think, its really bad as it seems. Moreover, its being hand pick, check properly, cleaned with water properly before seasoning and fried with oil. Anyway, these chicken thrown out are unable to sell out for the day by the restaurant, still new, thrown out and being dump dived out. Not really bad as it was persumed.
