Really good - most helpful, thanks.
Love the brutal tests you put them through!
Ordered the 680.
[Dwain] our pleasure Paul, enjoy your new tool!
*Works great **MyBest.Tools** on small lumber and much lighter than large circular saws.*
6:50 - Makita has an added bonus. You can see Milwaukee pushing the chips in front and that obscure the cut mark where Makita has the engine exhaust designed to blow the dust away.
great that you made this video. BTW would be great if you made a series explaining the CORDED and CORDLESS tools advantages, disadvantages, and best field of use. Because now that the battery tools are hyped it starts to give question of optimum use of battery tools.
Gotta say , you do one of the best review videos on the net . Spot on
whotusay750 thanks!
Good review guys, only thing i disagree on is the plastic bit on the Makita, if ya gonna break that off your doing something wrong for a start, probably a rough bugger and gonna stuff any tool anyway, its there for a reason, over time things get knocked round and the plates can get off of the marks, it lets you realign the guide
But having said that it could use a second screw to make it more stable at other end, but who wants to undo 2 screws when ya can just do one, also having said that
most builder look at the blade when they cut, never trust those guides, but if ya can adjust then maybe ya can trust them
Great channel guys , i have been using Makita tools for the last 25 years and they just get better and better and now with the new batteries coming on the market the need for corded tools will be a thing of the past.... : ) keep up the great reviews...
All the best from London UK
yensabi thanks mate, they certainly make some good stuff. oztooltalk is on hiatus at the moment.
Just ordered the fuel saw get it Wednesday can't wait
on the European model the level on the pendulum guard is shorter allowing for a dust extractor
Hi guys,
Another great review. I have just got the Milwaukee, yesterday in fact. When running it just in your hand not under load the motor has a rattle sound to it. Is this how they are? No problems cutting though, really powerful. Any of you guys out there know what I mean?
Thanks,
Dave.
Often the UK and US have slightly different adaptations. Do you know if I can order a M18 CCS33 and have it shipped to the US.?
I have been looking all over the net for stuff on the new makita batteries, i can't find anything.
On a side note. my Makita rep let slip that they might be bring out a 6 amp batterie.
how did you guys find out about the new batteries?
Love milwaukee i own both the 6 1/2 and the 7 1/4 brushless circular saws and they never disappoint me ...will be getting the m12 pretty soon
[Dwain] yeah they're great.
Bottom line is if you're into makitas platform you're going to stay with makita. If you're with milwaukee platform you're going to stay with Milwaukee.
+Love2boat92 Check out +AvE channel - he strips quite a few Milwaukee and Makita tools and shows you all the differences in build quality/technology. And he's a funny bloke who knows his onions too, so makes it entertaining.
freshpootube I've actually watched a lot of his tool tear down videos. He is hilarious.
Yea, but someone wanting to get into a new brand of tools there is not much between Milwaukee and Makita.
I will say this however.... every fucker in the uk uses Makita, which means when your on site batteries and tools can get picked up accidentally.
I’ve done it myself, stole a blokes SDS thinking it was mine... gave it back to him of course. Was an honest mistake.
But having m18 tools in the uk your less likely to have that happen.
I disagree me and the blokes that work for me use more then one platform
@@Jcoughlan I always keep a rattle can of hi vis-paint in my rig. all my tools get a tattoo. It also makes it easier to spot.
nice review. the 2 guide rail holes are not there to give you 2 places to put the guide rail. they are there so you can attach accessory part number 196953-0 which allows you to attach to the makita rail saw rails basically turning it into a rail saw!
[Dwain] ahh thats cool.
I have had the Milwaukee since it hit the market and it has been a great saw just wish we could get the dust chute here in the states.
regopit44 You can't get the dust chute? That's so weird! Why do companies do that to us?!?!
***** I have emailed Milwaukee 2 or 3 times asking if i could get one and all they say it is unavailable in the US.
regopit44 ridiculous! we should set up some sort of TIA / OTT exchange program, where we ship unavailable / overpriced gear to each other!
The Makita has a track saw guide accessory that mounts on the the two slots, it fits the Makita rails.
nice!
wouldve like to see the 45 degree cuts with both saws
Giude rail holes are for a rail saw adapter so you can use the makita track.
the plastic gauges on the makita are adjustable so if you the the saw you can move it back to true zero instead of making a 1/4 inch mark with your pencil
Love your videos guys, especially when they are makita ones.
I got the original makita cordless circ saw about 5 years ago as an occasional tool. Think I have used my corded circular saw once since then. It's my go to circ saw now. I got an expensive blade for it which made a huge difference.
How would you rate the difference between the non-brushless makita and the new brushless one. Worth an upgrade?
Last I checked the price difference between the brushless 18v and the 36v (2x 18v) non brushless was practically nothing. I guess if the brushless does everything you want why have the extra weight.
Alex reed the brushless is certainly a lot more powerful (just like in the grinder upgrade), and will last longer. but if you don't currently make your brushed version cut-out or struggle for runtime, then you're already set right?
Cracking video mates!! Sorry I couldn't resist :)
I have the makita and it's a huge improvement over the old 6.5" saw.. great power and as long as you have two batteries it has plenty of runtime that you can easily charge a battery in the time it takes to drain one so your gonna get all day use
I agree with you guys, both these saws seem so good that the determining factor for many people is going to be what battery platform they already have or which brand offers the most other tools that you might want to buy if starting fresh
For me it's Makita all the way.. I have been in the LXT line for at least 7 or 8 years and my experience with the quality and long term durability and reliability has been excellent..
NERemodeling Cheers NER ;)
yeah these brushless models are a serious step-up from any brushed cordless saw, and nobody need switch platforms to get the other one, they are both awesome. You and Mike would get on great, Makita lovers ;)
***** that Mike sounds like a smart guy!! It's hard not to love Makita when they build the best cordless tools out there! :)
NERemodeling You could be right, but he's been doing a good job hiding it from me ;)
Thanks for the reassurance, I've just renewed my old cordless Ryobi tools with the latest Makita LXT combo package. Of the six items only the combo-drill disappoints. it's torque is fine along with battery life, but the chuckspeeds are woefully slow, even compared to the 8yr old Ryobi pointless shite! Lol
Love milwaukee circularsaw 6-1/2 design very good..
What is the attached fence / guide you're using in the video? I love that!
Just a saw fence / rip guide. We screwed some timber to it to increase its length and allow very thin cuts.
Would be interesting to see how Dewalt's new DCS565 6 1/2 brushless compares against these two
Agreed! I really want to try the DCS565!
just found your channel and i love it, big thumbs up. looking at getting a new brushless kit soon and your reviews are really help full. just wounding if you guys are trades at all? just curious. cheers
cammy470 cammy470 Hi cammy, thanks for your support! I (Dwain) am an engineer with a love of tools and building. Mike has done a few jobs in trade-like work, but is mostly in tool sales/repping etc.
awesome. thanks guys.
i wonder when makita will release the batteries with the charge indicator on them . checking the uk makita website, they have them but only in a 2.0 ah capacity
+tredstone in Australia there are 6ah batteries shipping now with charge indicators, maybe 5ah too?
+Oz Tool Talk just bought a Makita 6pc brushless combo with 2x 5ah and 1x 4ah. The 5ah have the battery indicators! And indicators on the tools as well for the 4ah batteries that don't have and indicator
:D
If you had to start your personal power tool set from scratch what platform would you recommend? I'm talking all tools
[Dwain] that's impossible to answer sorry. For starters the answer would change every few months when brands bring out new releases ;) And it totally depends on what sort of work you do. I can tell you one thing, all the big brands are MORE than capable enough for the work I do!!!
I have Hilti and Milwaukee. I find the Hilti gear extremely tough and well built and gives me a feeling that it will run forever. I have combi drills in both. There are a lot of boasts by Milwaukee about drilling 7/8" holes in concrete and it has huge torque 136Nm, which is fine but I would use my Hilti te6 a 22 sds for holes in concrete much above 6mm, and there is no safety feature on the Milwaukee that stops you breaking your wrist if a bit catches. The hilti has 80Nm of torque, although it feels a lot more and it has ATC....Active torque control which is great, especially if you are working off a ladder and reaching up. I am talking about the 18 volt Gen 2 Milwaukee and the Hilti SF6H a 22. Most of the main brands are pretty much of a muchness! A lot comes down to personal choice.
Dave.
Hey guys !
Awesome video ! Awesome tools !
The new Batteries with Indicator will come in 2 amp ( BL1820B) 4 amp ( BL1840B ) and 5 amp ( BL1850B ).
As soon as i get one in my store i'll let you guys know on the forum ! ^^
dominic van lievenoogen Thanks Dom, we really appreciate your Makita insight!
after testing both the milwaukee saws did you notice a difference in performance between the two or is it just the cut depth?
Dede Portern we didn't have the same blade for the two Milwaukee saws so can't say for sure, but we think it likely they have the same motor...
I believe the only differences are the cut depth, overall size and blade location. The motor size looks identical. See our review of the larger fuel saw.
In uk 4ah,5ah and 6ah all have indicators.
In Aus they have become available in the last 12 months or so.
I am on the rigid platform in the US and I was wondering if you would test some of the AEG new brushless stuff?
Alex Douthat hi Alex, we'd love to. Unfortunately we don't have access at the moment, but we'll keep trying!
+Dwain OTT had a crack with aeg yet? I got their hammer drill and bl impact driver, somewhat naively, based on the long Warranty.
Anyway, now I'm kind of in that system, I want to make know if I should stick with it or bail now before I buy more stuff.
I really like the driver and drill. The only fault is the trigger action is not as smooth as some other brands.
Cheers!
sorry Andrew, no movement as yet :(
All good, cheers for the reply. I'll prob just stick with it. I just get buyers remorse sometimes if I don't get the best there is! It's ridiculous and my GF calls me out on going overkill all the time.
That is the hard life of a tool addict my friend ;)
What is the rip guide you are using called?
Just a saw fence / rip guide. We screwed some timber to it to increase its length and allow very thin cuts.
If your using a dust collector which u should be then neither is an issue.
Been a makita user for years but since I’ve been using various Milwaukee fuel m18 powertools I’ve sold all my makita power tools. Milwaukee fuel are in another league.
The Milwaukee 6.5 has replaced my 7 1/4 Makita cord saw simple due to its ease of use and the long life of the battery . Sure it doesn't replace a corded tool , but take it easy and it does all cuts for me . Had it now for 1 1/2 years constant use and no problem. Like to buy the fuel 7 1/4 next
I have the Makita 5008 corded. 1800 watt motor and will cut 4 18mm sheets of ply in one go. I bought the 6-1/2" Milwaukee for smaller cuts and ease of use when no power to hand. Only just got it but it cuts really well. As I have said in my post the saw has a sort of rattle when just run in your hand and I was wondering if this was normal.?
That's smart that milwaukee prevents the protection from kicking in until you're done with the cut. I'm a cheap guy and if I'm ripping some expensive wood I find that feature very nice. Thanks for mentioning that, something i'd NEVER know picking up the tool in the store and hem and haw at it :D
+Russ Schampers i agree! you're welcome Russ!
I've been using a brushless cordless milwaukee for the last 2 weeks and it routinely cuts out mid cut, and I'm not cutting sheet goods, I'm cutting cedar shake. So don't buy what these guys are selling.
[Dwain] it was just conjecture, saying what we thought had happened. Thanks for the correction, we aren't perfect! And we aren't selling anything either buddy...
Watching The cutting, it was amazing to see the difference in dust extraction. The Milwaukee blows it at the user, the Makita shoots a clean path to the side
They are trying to get you to learn how to use the right blade 7 1/2
did u guys test these tools
[Dwain] Did you watch the video?
No mention of the lefthandedness????
Must have forgot to note it. It's standard among cordless saws (with the exception of the new larger 7-1/4" saws), so not particularly noteworthy to us. We also tried to focus on the differences, as this was a comparison. We did separate reviews of the Makita and 7-1/4" fuel, I'm sure this was mentioned in those...
Fellas, these power tool face offs are beginning to cause a meltdown of my comparative reasoning LOL Seriously, I scoured YT for wks for the overall best mains 'multi-cutter' ended up buying a Fein multimaster marine , which is a fantastic machine with a multitude of spare attachments, along with its matching vacuum. Fein are the pioneers of the oscillating power tools and this helped my decision and the YT instructional video cemented my choice.
Would you guys opt for a different corded brand? I admire the Festool Vecturo, but it's more costly still......
+manos3790 hi there, glad to help ;) i would look at Bosch, Makita and FEIN for multi-tools at the moment.
question on this makita 18v circular saw where it made ? is it china or japan
not sure sorry, we didn't own this one. [Dwain]
China
Makita is made in Japan USA germany UK if Makita is made in China its a knock off. Milwaukee is Made in China and there website claiming made in USA is bull.
Makita is the only company that has not sold out to some China company.
Mate I would like to see dewalt xr 5ah battery saw and brushless makita vs Milwaukee I'm sure makita will hit 3 place
+Rex Mix i don't think so. I owned the Dewalt XR saw and it was a very good saw, but it's not the match of either of these brushless units for power. The Dewalt does have first class ergonomics and great runtime for a brushed saw.
+Oz Tool Talk actually I own the Dewalt and it's just as powerful it depends when you bought your Dewalt they kept tweeking it the latest version is just as powerful
[Dwain] yeah i know they updated it with higher RPM etc. you also own one of the brushless models to compare?
Love your comparison an reviews. But please get a better camera . The picture is not good and the focus often miss. The wall behind u is often more in focus. And it's 2015. Switch to 1080p.
Just some friendly critisism and not very importent. But had to say it because the rest of the show is perfect. Keep it up!
Gaccusgaccus Thanks for the feedback. We actually just upgraded our camera before Christmas, which has improved it a little, but our big problem is lighting. No camera is going to well in the poor lighting of our shed.
I don't see the value in filming in 1080p, when we can't even get the focus correct. And who needs a tool review by a couple of hacks in 1080p? :P
We are focused on the content, so glad to hear that you enjoy it!
Dwain OTT there was no problem with the footage looked sweet to me
Use my makita all the time, 5 amp battery ,huge difference
(mike) Good to hear raymond. Always good to get feedback from the field 👍. Thanks
[Dwain] yeah for sure!
Baik boss
If you are wondering about Milwaukee and makita i have had a makita drill for 7 years in that time my workmate went through 5 Milwaukee drills
Thats just an example from experience
Milwaukee have a higher return rate because of damages i have never had major problems with makita
And on that same token, I have had my m18 drill for 10 years still going like new original batteries and all. And all the maskeeta lovers in my company drills and or batteries have died. Everyone has a story to tell about their tools, bottom line is they all make great tools milwaukee, dewalt, makita all top quality. I run all three for my personal business. And no fails yet on any of them. No need to shit on milwaukee
Hm...the dust port of the Makita comes in the box...are you shure you didn't just forget to put it on? If not, it is available as an acessory for 10 bucks.
Also, "Plastic" is a fairly general term and a part being made out of metal isn't a good thing per definition. It can be, but it also can't. It's always a question of what attributes a cetain part has to have to make it a great tool. There are applications where glassfibre reinforced polycarbonate, PPE or nylon like makita and a lot of other manufacturers like to use for their housings and gear housings does indeed outperform a metal part. Simply by being more resistant to impacts while being lighter i.e.. Apart from that a great, detailed review.
NameNaameNameeNaamee thanks for the comments, we are sure about he dust chute, brand new out of the box and no go. Not overly surprising as the milwaukee dosnt have one on the theirs in USA.
Regarding the plastic comment I agree in full with you. As a general comment we line more metal versus plastic, guards In Particular.
Hope you enjoyed the review.
(Mike)
I did! Great detail, not the typcial black and white stuff. I like that a lot. Maybe the chute is standard now, the review is a bit older and dust collection has come into focus during the last two years in particular...anyways, it's available on amazon for 10 bucks if you'll ever need it.
NameNaameNameeNaamee very true, it’s a much higher focus now !
Good to know, I actually ended up keeping the Milwaukee so I’m very happy !
And there is an optional dust chute available ( in EU at least ): It's part number 196961-1.
As Seen here: www.makita.biz/product/category/cordless/dhs680/index.html#4
Can't you get that one in Australia? :)
And the 2 'guide rail slides' is for this Tracksaw Rail adapter. You can use this Cordless Circ saw on the Makita's Plunge saw rail like this:
www.verktygsladan.nu/images/HS7101skena.jpg
Using the follow ing adapter ( that used 2 guide rail inserts ):
static.debonix.fr/media/catalog/product//a/d/adaptateur-rail-makita-195839-5-i.jpg
cheers !
dominic van lievenoogen yeah I mentioned that Europe seems to get that option (I read it in the manual). Doesn't seem to be available here in AUS though :( that's so cool to adapt with the tracksaw rail! I wonder if the adapter will become available here too ...? you're a fountain of knowledge Dominic!
*****
So stupid that they do not offer all those accessoires in australia. That same adapter can be used or ALOT of makita tools to use them on the track saw guide. ( corded and cordess circ saws/jig saws etc.. )
milwaukee ver y good power tool 18v
Guys, look at your video of the saws in action. Most don't use dust collection, so look at where the exit occurs on both. The Milwaukee shoots the dust back at you, Makita deflects it down and away from you. Weight, you used two hands on the Mil, and only one on the Mak, surely ergonomics are better on the Makita for long term use. The Makita also charges much faster than the Milwaukee. EVERY cordless needs charging, so while you are waiting for the Milwaukee, you are back to work with the Makita. Plastic "bits"? Makita wouldn't put items on their saws that cause warranty returns, did you snap off the nose in use???
+Don Donaldson I agree, we did mention that the Makita is excellent in terms of where the dust goes by default. I can't speak to the one-handed vs two handed use, I don't remember why I did that. i reality I wasn't carrying the weight of either saw, so I don't consider your statement to be accurate re: ergonomics. I agree the faster charger on the Makita is a bonus, but this can be overcome by extra batteries, and doesn't really come into a tool fight between these two saws specifically. Both Mike and I agreed there was a couple of plastic items on it that could easily be broken and could have been made metal at little cost. Mike voted for the Makita, I went for the Milwaukee, we both loved both saws. I don't think there's any great injustice here ...
Put this against the hitachi brushless
Hitachi kicks ass but no one talks about there kit
Hitachi needs to put a friggin' battery indicator on their batteries. It's 2017, they just released new batteries in their lithium line and they still don't have them.
[Dwain] would love to try their BL saw, with that massive cut capacity.
Great review. You guys know your stuff. A bit of advice: If you slowed down a little when speaking it would help this American (and lots of others, I'm sure) better understand what you are saying.
Just bought the Makita saw and a couple of 5.0 batteries. I didn't buy the Milwaukee and here's why: I bought one of the first Milwaukee cordless circular saws in the 80s and the thing was next to worthlesss right out of the box. It was also very expensive, nearly $300 if I recall correctly. They gave you a really thin kerf blade to help ease the strain on the battery and motor, but it would warp. A replacement blade cost $40 bucks. A complete waste of money. Maybe somebody from Milwaukee can make it up to me and send me a new one of the saw your reviewed above. LOL I still have the tool box for that saw, but I put a small router in it instead.
When it comes to cordless, Makita has always been the best. You just have to make sure you are buying the top of the line tool and not one that was introduced several years ago. And the top of the line batteries. They just introduced a 6.0 Ah battery. Milwaukee says they are introducing a 9.0 Ah battery. I'm skeptical.
Makita's lineup of cordless tools is very impressive, although it's obvious that some are much better than others. I wish Milwaukee well, but I'd appreciate it if they'd compensate me for that lame horse of a saw I bought in the 80s. I might even still have the reciept.
Thanks Doug, I tend to speak too fast so will keep it in mind .👍
Glad you enjoyed the review.
(mike)
i just got one of these saws...the Makita...you can very easily fix the indicator wiggle by inserting a little glue...the plastic piece on the front is meant so that if you bent the base plate you can readjust the cutting line...Milwaukee and all previous saws never thought that people drop these frequently and that almost all used saws have bent plates...the wiggle on the front knob can be fixed by reversing the clip that holds it on...i think why this saw has so many problems is that it is designed in japan but put together in china!!! ===good design but not put together right...if you put a bigger battery on it (6.0- 3 layered) this saw will easily out perform any competition with a bigger motor because of the electronics and heavy wires around the motor...check out their newest impact drivers...
@@OZToolTalk Nah! Your accents are great. We had some Aussie riggers in our theatre here in Bristol, England a few years back. Great, great blokes!! Totally nuts of course but great!!😂😂
makita the winner because you can make it track saw compatible with a part for $30 bucks. also dust port. in the USA the Milwaukee, has no dust port built in, another minus. Makita FTW.
yeah, that track saw capablity, and dust port should be mandatory. Don't know what the issue is.
The milwaukee is running a 4.0 battery and the makita is running a 3.0 battery. imho, if the makita was running a 4.0 battery, this would have been more of an equal challenge as far as the power source also.
+TheTru1ne We did use a 4Ah battery on the Makita, look closely around the 6:15 mark. Thanks for watching!
+Oz Tool Talk I didn't catch that, thanks for pointing that out, excellent comparison and review!
cheers bud :)
Used both extensively and both are quite poor for a tradesman, I’d stick to electric easily. But for a home handy man can’t go wrong.
i know so many tradies and chippies who use these daily.
We are in the future now, where what was real once is fake and not true. Pronouns, Adjectives all mean nothing. Today battery best, tomorrow hand saw will rule supreme.
Dwoin an Oi. Ha, ha. Been a while since I lived around those accents.
Milwaukee running the new 9.0 battery runs all day on one charge
(mike) Thats great !!
Got both, the Milwaukee is not in the same league as the Makita, Makita is well ahead of Milwaukee, I would say the hikoki is only thing close to the Makita
why don't Makita, milwaukee, dewalt etc build tools that be able to be switch from corded to cordless or other way around at the same time?I think they knew how to make it but they don't want to do it otherwise losing to much $$$$$( just saying) :D
+andatu sitorus it would also add cost and weight to the tools. Some fans and lights and such are capable of both power sources.
Dood if they made a battery but its a transformer with a power lead, converting you're wall power to your 18v.
I cut a rail road tie all the way around and broke what was left with a hammer. This was with my Milwaukee fuel
The Makita will still be working in 5 years, the Milwaukee will have gone up in smoke along time before that
Your defiantly right on that, Milwaukee's don't hold up I work at home depot and we get so many Milwaukee tools back compared to Makita and Dewalt, we sell more Dewalt and Makita then Milwaukee but we get more Milwaukee's back
Thanks Christopher, i use the Milwaukee as my main saw now so every cut i do is now my cordless versus my 240V unit. So far no issues so im happy-but trends always find their way into public sphere. Happy to see what happens longer term here. (Mike)
@Warren. I agree the Makita seem to hold up VERY well long term. I run both platforms and have sold all major brands except Milwaukee for over 10 years. Some brands have ups and downs but Makita don't do everything well so we always have to keep a bit of an open mind. And certainly not forgetting everyone uses tools markedly different and treatment is seldom the same. (Mike)
My oldest Milwaukee product is M18 drill with 2x 3.0 Ah batteries have been used it weekly since 2010 and it still works flawlessly.
@mr.wizeguy, great to hear mate. 👍
Have owned both saws, the Milwaukee is way nicer! The Makita came with a lose shoe and was not as powerful. The Makita just felt cheep. I am not a Milwaukee fan boy, I own Milwaukee, Makita and DeWalt. They all have tools I feel are better and worse. Milwaukee wins on the the 6 1/2 brushless circular saw test in my world.
Good review but could you do it in English next time?
The makita looks more beautifully designed compared to the Milwaukee.
+mateollios 67 suppose that's a preference thing. close-up the Milwaukee has a more premium finish to my mind, but the Makita is a sweet tool...
Nla bla bla...
bla-bla-bla more test...
these tests are not real !!! at first the makita stopped but actually saw faster ... then it ended up around the battery .... all the fool ... you mean the 4ah batt. me more endurance than 5ah makita ??? look at the price of the battery .... and makita battery hold capacity for me 5 years ... fellow milwaukee batteries are after 2 years soft and weak ... their price is twice ...
