    MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

Two things, love that your open with your faith and love the mental side of fishing that you concentrate on. Not sure about anyone else but I love to watch videos of fish catches at the end of the day when I have time to sit down and watch CZcams but during the day working around the yard I will put on like your Deep waters series where I don’t necessarily have to be watching you I can do my work and get in your head and learn stuff at the same time. It’s why I follow, it’s unique and not everyone is doing that.

And this unstable Illinois weather has got the fish moving in then back out, feeding then not. By the way I only fish from the bank and without live scope. I have to go by what I see with my eyes too. Thank you for the info !

Not saying you are wrong, but in northern Ca year after year the first wave of spawners are 9/10 in the 5+ class. Almost all of the giants 8+ are early before weather gets stable

See the same here in Michigan. Not consistently as big as in Cali but most the biggest ones spawn first. Not all bass spawn at the same time and I’ve also seen, year after year, some will be spawning at different times of the year or more than once a year. Also I have not seen bass spawn in huge differences of deeper or shallower water. They seem to spawn between 2-6 ft, there are a few that might go only a couple more feet but not many. Also, during spawn on a particular bed, the guarding males or the female may be hiding in cover nearby at any given time and for any given period of time. They can leave and go feed or go dormant for anywhere between a couple hours or couple days. If they are pressured too much they can leave and come back, leave and spawn somewhere else, or leave and stop spawning. The weather can dictate these things too, just like Todd says.
I don’t care for bed fishing anyway

As a professional angler you know some answers to questions I have. One is particular is generally where do large fish spend most of their time. If I took an average weight of the fish I've caught this year it is about two pounds. Most of my fish then are in that one to three pound range. But that can't be the be a realistic actual size distribution for fish. A population of fish will have a ton of one and two pounders but should have a fair amount of six plus pounders. Where do those fish hang out? Because I do not fish where they hang out. And I live on Lake Tyler. I know there are some hefty fish in these lakes.

I’m actually talking about some of the tournament anglers that are on the water and still say this. They are out on the water every day. Most guys that just go fishing for the day ask if they are still spawning cause they are wondering themselves and are trying to figure it out. I’d say the tournament guys sometimes are the worst.

I agree with you about the biggest fish not spawning first. That's never made sense to me & a lot of people claim that. My thought is, the biggest fish are the oldest & smartest. They take the least amount of risks. So I would think they spawn later & deeper...

I fish 95% from shore for largemouth smallmouth walleye sheepshead blue gills sunfish and pearch
Save for walleye and pearch I catch all the other fish from March till October with good to great consistency and 90% of the time I never fish water more than 15' deep and 90% of that 90% I'm fishing water 5-10' deep and best guess is 60% of my bass and all of my bass over 3lbs come from water 5'-2' deep
And in March April and may 60% of my bass come from casting at varying degrees of parallel to the shore
So yes large numbers of quality largemouth and smallmouth spend enough of thier time in shallow water close to shore that I catch good to vary good numbers of them 8 months of the year
I travel 3.7 hours from home to Ohio to fish lake Erie from shore for sheepshead and smallmouth because a 35 fish day is the norm with 20-25 sheepshead and 10-15 smallmouth being the normal to be expected bag I go there from sun up Friday till about 5pm Sunday and normally catch 75-120+ fish while I wish they all were smallmouth I'm very happy catching 30 sheepshead a day that average over 3lbs with four or five 6-8 pounders a day and one or two 10 pounders are more likely than not
I haven't kept a bass in over 25 years and only keep panfish or walleyes

Does the water level in the lake affect the fish. I really like Toledo bend at 171 ft. It seemed lower for some reason. Bushes and trees in the backs of coves had 5” of water on them. Happy Easter TC.

Did you see Ivan Nastic and the 200 kilogram Tuna? Makes Zaldaingerous look tame, I sawed down a supply of interesting wood this winter. Will use it to develop a Cod, Tuna bait. Judging by Ivan's attempt with his tackle though he's out-matched, and so would anyone. Goes to show though, that top water's can work.

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924

It can start pretty early, after the bass spawn, they usually like warmer water, they definitely don’t like cold nights.
