    FYI, modifiers like the shift key are consistent throughout the DAW. shift-mouse in the piano roll will move the selected note just like the automation nodes. shift-mouse will move clips restricted as well (very useful for moving a clip to another track without messing up the timing of the clip). control-mouse will always duplicate, shift-control-mouse always duplicate and move restricted, etc.

    Even if someone watched this and knew everything you covered (which I didn't, that Select module was a YES! moment for me) it's always good to get a confirmation, that ''Oh, I'm glad it wasn't just me'' is nice. Mike, you make great videos - I mean they are technically very well done, well paced, and thoroughly explained, plus all is well lit and framed, etc, very recognizable brand you've carved out. It's NOT surprising you've broken the 100k subs. Bravo.

      Agree wholeheartedly ... it never ceases to amaze me how CbB is always completely disregarded in the countless articles & blogs that keep being published advising us all of the best DAWs around. I suspect the lack of Mac support or the absence of oodles of built in instruments and native plugs that the 'big names' all boast must put people off ... else it's a perverse snobbery that nothing free could possibly be any good! Anyway, their loss not ours ;-)

    • @Reeceline
      @Reeceline Před rokem

      @@mrsnowman9227 I wouldn't be too upset by it. Ive been a long time user of Sonar (the predecessor to Cakewalk). It has always been overlooked in favour of other DAWs regardless of bundled plugins (it used to have more). Thats OK because your choice of DAW should always be based on workflow and what is affordable. So if Live or FL studio works better for others that's fine too. Just see it as were lucky that Cakewalk works for us, given its now free and we have Mike at hand providing informative videos!

  • @southpaw3473

    MIke, if you go to a clip in the track view and right-click while holding shift you can switch between automation data. Place the curser on the ghosted automation lane you want to adjust. Likewise, if you place the curser in an area of the clip with no automation and right-click/shift it returns to clips. I never use automation lanes. I prefer to have the automation superimposed on the waveform in the track view. Lanes are too cumbersome but if you use the right-click/shift method it's easy to switch between them. Thanks for the videos! Great help!

    Hi Mike - another great set of tips! I didn't know about automation snapshot (🙂) and a number of other features were timely reminders of several tricks I'd forgotten about. One thing I discovered though ... when you're not sure which plugin parameter to select from the available options listed in the automation menu, there's actually no need to engage 'Write' mode, start playing and then 'wiggling' the desired parameter. Instead, simply open the plugin and 'wiggle' the parameter (without playing the track) - then open a new automation lane (using the automation lanes button as usual) ... find the plugin in the list presented and the previously 'wiggled' parameter should already be in the sub-list and ready to be selected 🙂 Hope this helps (perhaps a very small payback for all of the great things I've learned from you over the years!)

    Your videos have been very helpful to me. It is great to have this resource when I get stumped with a problem. Here is my current dilemma. I want to set all of my faders for the intro of the song and and take a snapshot of all of that together. Then, for the verse, set all of the faders to different volumes and take a snapshot of all of that together. Is there a way to do that without having to take a snapshot of each individual fader? I tried selecting multiple tracks for a snapshot, but so far have not made that work. Any help would be appreciated.

  • @etobicokeguitarschool
    @etobicokeguitarschool Před 4 měsíci

    This is awesome, but I feel like I'm getting some glitches in the software. Sometimes Automation Snapshot works as intended, but sometimes instead of doing the snapshot it creates new nodes in random but nearby places on the automation timeline, without snapshotting the volume I wanted. Can't seem to figure out why this is the case.
    I also can't seem to copy/paste one group of automations to another track; even when I highlight the next track it just pastes it somewhere else on the original track.
    The unison move up/down at 8:30 doesn't seem to be working for me either, even though I'm getting the sideways I beam. I have to highlight all of the notes manually and then shift/drag the group. Which works, but is extra steps and sometimes I can't bring it to exactly the right volume I want.
    These are great secrets and I really appreciate you sharing them! If you or someone else have some feedback on the queries I'm having, it would be super appreciated! Perhaps I'm misclicking things; Cakewalk is great but a little finicky.

    Hi Mike! I added automation to a track with the write-automation setting. Afterwards, none of my faders are moving anymore although the volume automation seems to be working cause I can hear it changing. Do you know why all my faders stopped moving just because I wrote automation on one channel? It seems like a hidden setting got altered somewhere. Other projects are still working fine. It's just the one project that I used write-automation on. Thanks in advance!

    • @Promidi
      @Promidi Před rokem +1

      This would be unlikely as CAL scripts , while they do work in Cakewalk by Bandlab, have officially been depreciated. You also need to be careful what CAL command you use.
      For example, there is the old EditSlide and EditSlide40 commands. However, these will catastrophically crash Cakewalk by Bandlab if you attempt to use them in CAL scripts.
      To slide MIDI events using CAL scripts, you have to edit the actual time parameter of MIDI events.
