Liverpool produced a memorable display to defeat rivals Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford in March 2009. After Cristiano Ronaldo put the Red Devils ahead, goals from Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Fabio Aurelio & Andrea Dossena gave Liverpool the victory.

Two Liverpool greats who should've lifted the Premier League trophy. Alas, no.
Draws vs weaker sides ruined it.
Liverpool accumulated 14 out of possible 18 against the other big 3 at that time too. Too many silly games they drew against mediocre sides cost them a lot in the end.
They (Torres and gerrard) only played together 12 premier league games that season - due to injuries (mainly to Torres)
Had there been no injuries- surely Liverpool would have won that - but those are literally the breaks. Squad depth wins trophies
When they did play together- they were putting 4 and 5 past teams
We've achieved so much under Klopp. But results like these at Old Trafford especially seem an age away. The game has changed a lot since, but I would love it if this Liverpool team turned up like they did back in 09.

Kind of similar to Arsenal the previous year. We were in a strong position to win the league. Our season turned upside down after that Eduardo leg break and we went on to draw too many games after that

The Newcastle 5-0 definitely felt worse as a ManUtd fan. It was much earlier in the season and although ManUtd ended up winning it that year also, it was still a humiliating loss at the time.
This defeat was more funny for ManUtd fans, it rubbed in how Liverpool lost the title dropping 6 points vs newly promoted Hull & Stoke 🤣they also lost to Middlesbrough who got relegated that year and ManUtd took maximum points from all those teams and knew they were always winning it. Even before this game I remember saying it would be funny if we got thrashed and how Liverpool would be kicking themselves, they did the double over ManUtd & Chelsea that season which was rare and yet blew a rare chance of winning it by failing against the team's I mentioned.
