- Inkscape is professional, free, open source Vector Graphics software.
Notes from this tutorial:
To change the thickness of a stroke, click on Object in the menu bar and select fill a stroke to bring the fill and stroke options. You can also right-click the object and select the option there.
The Fill and Stroke Options have three tabs:
The Fill Tab allows us to change the color of the object body using the RGB, HSL, CMYK, Wheel, or CMS options.
In the Fill tab, next to the X there are also available options to apply linear, radial, and mesh gradient, as well as pattern and swatch.
When the Pattern option is selected you can choose from many Pattern fills, or apply Blur, and Opacity effects
The Stroke Paint Tab allows us to change the color of the Stroke with the same Flat color options (RGB, Wheel..).
Use the Stroke Style to change the Width and other characteristics of the stroke.

I just finished the third lesson in this video series and it has helped me to go from totally clueless to feeling like I can actually figure this software out. Thanks a million!
I agree
me too, I love playing with it now
What is really neat about your tutorials, is that you include the problems to avoid and how to overcome them. Thanks.
You're welcome, and I appreciate the feedback!

@Khalil Alecwtf man gtfo
@@achyuthansanal ??? what did he do? I thought it was a reasonable question.
@@ninetythree9077 Yes it's possible. If you look closely there is a color changing option under the pattern (on mac)
At last someone who actually makes sense
when explaining things and even when thing don't go right
thank you for your great tutorials : ) 👍
You are a natural instructor - great job!
Cool, Calm and Collected, good talking speed - not too slow, not too fast.
And maybe the most important - you say what you do while you are doing it - great for learning, understanding and remembering.
I will be watching all and I will most certainly be coming back for refreshers.
Well done !
Thanks for the feedback!
In terms of the white background thing i think it's much easier to head to page/document propeties> background colour>turn on checkerboard background
yeah, this is what you want to use when you're dealing with the background
Is there a way to set this as the default page properties?
Where can i find the page properties

Man I have no idea how my journey of Inkscape would be without your tutorials! Thanks a Ton! Subscribed!
I"ve been looking around at the videos and I find TJ to be the best instructions, easy to understand and a very good pace. I am enjoying all the tutorials he has offered. Thank you TJ!
Very good tutorial. Thanks for producing this series. Good narration, nice tempo, and many good tips.
Thank you so much for the videos. I'm a retired engineer who built a laser engraver. I have been struggling to learn Inkscape and Photoshop to create images for my laser. They seemed so counter-intuitive to me after many years of using CAD softwares. The only thing more frustrating than trying to use the software was trying to follow CZcams videos with someone talking 300 mph and making no sense. You are extremely clear, concise, and logical. Perfect videos. Again, THANK YOU!
I am so grateful I came across your Inkscape tutorials. I loved your professional approach in the videos. Thank you so much for your effort.
These videos are great and the first two videos have shown me things I never knew before. The basics I knew but I wanted to start from lesson 1, glad I did. Thank you.
Thanks for this. Most people just talk and talk bragging about how much they know. Nothing fancy, you keep that to a minimum and really tell us what we need to know to get started. Well done.
This series of tutorials is one of the best I have ever watched. That's saying a lot because I'm 51 years old and I have watched a lot of them! You have a talent for teaching. Thank you!
I'm coming from Illustrator and I find Inkscape so much more intuitive. I can't believe this software is free!
Thank you so much for the tutorials, I can't wait to continue through them. (:
I cannot believe the work you've done on this series. Thx a lot. Is very, very good.
Thank you very much. Happy to help!
Thank you so much for these great lesson! I am a first time user, and I made EXACTLY what I wanted to make, just using what you taught in these first three videos. I look forward to watching the rest of them and exploring this great program more. I'm already considering donating to the program, as it seems AWESOME! I am a fiction writer, and this program is perfect for designing vehicles, creatures and more from my stories! Epic stuff, keep up the great work! You and Inkscape rock! P.S. you are so right about how versatile the shapes are, there is almost no need for any freehand stuff. I made great little stick figure people out of pinched faded grey-filled beige-lined circles! I was actually really impressed with what I was able to do on my first try!
That's great to hear! Thanks for sharing and I appreciate the feedback.
there are youtubers charging fee for this simple in depth tutorials. u r a great service to community bro. i pray for your well-being and happy life
Hi As a newcomer to Inkscape I find your tutorials very easy to follow and extremely useful. Many thanks
these are very informative - I got the software to do a one task in regards to an embroidery pattern to a cut file for applique.. but decided after lesson one on how interesting it is, and thought my best plan was to work my way through all the lessons - am finding it a little difficult to learn so much when getting older.. but it's so very clever
Born to be a teacher. Congrats!
I started watching the ads, just to make sure TJ gets a little back for all of the work he did.....it is well worth it.
Your videos are highly useful and the way you explain the things is highly appreciable. Thank a lot..
I really appreciate your lessons and mostly your style of teaching...Thanks!
Lesson 3 made it. Looking forward to text since I'm doing t shirts. Good so far thanks!
POD?
Thank you.....You explain it in such a way that it is understandable and at the correct pace.....
I am making a plan for a tank and I am using a lot of objects to create it. After duplicating a series of rectangles I noticed that some of the strokes were quite thin. Using this tutorial I was able to select the various objects and thicken or thin the stroke as needed. I used the box to type in the size of the stroke, hit enter and it was the size I wanted. I have also used the guides from the Guides tutorial to correct all of the angles on the drawing I thought were correct. Thanks for sharing all of these tutorials.
Good to hear! I also use Inkscape for plan/design work, landscaping and architectural. I'm getting more familiar with programs like FreeCAD and LibreCAD, and I'm pretty sure there are ways to import designs to/from inkscape.
@@TJFREE If you find a way could you do a tutorial on it? Thanks.
@@johnkelley9877 Sure!
I just downloaded this software. I can tell it is going to keep me busy for a while as I learn it all. One more tool in the arsenal, so to speak. Not only will it be useful as companion software to Krita for comix layouts, I could also use it to design templates for printing. These days, I think we all need things to fill our lives with happy stuff.
Thanks! This was definitely a refresher!
Really appreciate the concise of this tutorials! Good content man
Thank you, that's good to hear!
Wwhen you blurred that star for a second I thought I had lost my glasses... then it sank in hahaha. Great video series BTW!

Strong stroking!! LOL.. I loved the video, and will continue your tutorials. Excellent job!!
A wonderful tutorial. I learned so much. Thank You!
Wow, this is a whole new way of thinking!!!!
Its true. Working in vector is incredibility powerful, well worth the investment of time.

Thank you for the kind word!
Bit OTT that comment lol but I guess your pleased .... Good stuff ha ha
This is so cool. Great tutorials for a starter. I have Photoshop and could not learn anything besides photo editing. I also tried Illustrator and not near as easy as this. Thanks, keep up the good work,
This tutorial is very helpful!
I love your tutorials! I tried to make a logo with Inkscape without this, it was terrible. I am going to make my CZcams pic with this.
Thank you for your sharing, it's really a good tutorial.
Thank you for such great instructions
Thank you for the tutorials.
Amazing
This is really helpful to me
You have done such a great work
Bundles of thanks
This is a lifesaver. I have applied for a job claiming that I am pretty much an expert.
Good way to get fired!
Lol
Good software. Nice video. Please make more videos. thanks.
This series has "explain like I'm 5" energy and I'm living for it. I was trying to use Krita for vector art and I'm not familiar with either the program or the style, and I kept getting frustrated with the huge number of tools and settings that I don't need or know how to use. The fact that you can just go to the top in Inkscape and change the size by millimeters leads me to believe this program and I are going to get along.
The fact that you can type in the hex code for colors- I might actually cry.
If anybody deals with color a lot and wants a universal eyedrop tool you can use across multiple software, Instant Eyedropper is a free program I've been using for years where you click the icon and then click onto whatever color you want with pixel-perfect precision and it copies the hex code. So before even finishing this comment, I'll use it to grab the "reply" button color: #065FD4 Just two clicks and a ctrl+v and it's there. In Paint, I'd have to paste the code into google and copy the RGB values from there into the color editing tool to get the colors I wanted. With Inkscape, I can just paste the code directly in the RGB color editor.
Started learning your lesson.
I was painting a cloud around a picture, to make it look dreamy. I wanted to have some white fading inward and couldn't get the the gradient to work. So much frustration, but then finished the vid and BAM BLUR TO THE RESCUE hahahaha thank brother!
Thanks a lot sir/brother... You are really a great teacher 🔥🎉
Excellent tutorial, thanks👏👏
These are wonderful, thank you!
Thanks. I could not figure out the stroke for Inkscape. Totally different than Photoshop, Illustrator and Affinity Designer. Thanks Again
Great video. Thanks so much x
Great tutorial, thanks.
thank you so much for those tutorial, it helps a looooot !!! THANKS ^^
You teach so well!
Great video!
excellent tutorial, thank you
thank you very much for this awesome tutorial
Thank you, you explain so GREAT!!!
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback!
I started using a CNC machine 2 years ago, I didn't have a clue as to what I was getting into, but I am a quick learner. Everyone thinks that they can post a youtube video but some actually leave you more lost in the sauce than when you first started. You my friend explain it like it should be explain, and even if you already know some of this--- the detail info you give make it that much simpler. Thank you for your in depth video and you my friend a natural born Instructor.
Great help! Bravo
I'd love to see a tutorial video on map-making on Inkscape!
That's a great suggestion. I'll see what I can do.
@@TJFREE thanks! Can't wait!
Im sure youre a bit confused on saying about your tutorials but,it is such great
THANK YOU SO MUCH! your vids helped me a lot.
You're welcome. Glad to hear it!
Another imformative video!!
This might come out harsh but you help me with my imposter syndrome by showing your errors, it's what makes your tutorial better than the rest for me
I still have a problem: when I fill something, and my stroke and fill are both the same colour, there is still some white left between the outline and the fill. WhAt CaN i Do?
GREAT Videos -- thanks!!
Is there a way to reset the fill and stroke options, so when you create a new shape, it doesn't inherit the last shape's options?
thank you very much ! Good program .
Damn, thanks. It's really helps
Thank you I could not figure out how to change the color. It seemed like the gradient would eat the fill color. I got too used to corel. I remember in the old days we had to click in the points to change the colors. The tools are not very intuitive but once you find them they are powerful.
3:10 - Why not change the background to a checkerboard pattern? you can do that under file -> document properties
Thank you for your tutorials!
This is the best and most clear tutorial. I hope you have done a lot of others. I notice that it's often hard to select objects, to move them to make the retangles smaller, and almost impossible to skew the square, or to select colors. Selecting the strokes just can't be done after doing it a time or two. It takes many many frustrating tries to do simple movements like trying to manually make a square smaller by moving the corner. Is that just the way it is, always hard to grab or change a shape, or is there some trick to it? Is it that it I'm just new at it, or is it generally not precise and requires a whole lot of patience?
wow man you are really great. I'm beginner but your tutorials are helping me alot. thanks for this wonderful tutorials
You're a great instructor.
I appreciate that!
I was following with the tutorial, I dunno how i did it but i got a double stroke (sort of) but when i edit the color of the fill, the second stroke (inside the original stroke) also changes
@rvalle13 & TJ FREE thank you so much. I have been using Inkscape since 0.92 and each upgrade kicked my butt. Like @rvalle13, I learn from taking notes. I have really only used "the basics" in inkscape trying to help making svg files and teaching inkscape basics that I learned from the group leader. You both have finally made 1.3.2 a fun experience!
Fantastic! Thanks!!!
How do you set an object back to its default everything? For example, after playing with all the options you talked about here, now every new object I create has all those new properties. I want to reset an object back to its default value without "undoing" all the properties one by one. Is this possible?
Do you have a video that talks about how to edit multi-colored gradients? I'm having trouble figuring out how to make a two color radial gradient.
Very cool.... Thank you so much
Great series, I seemed to have forgotten which video has the info. on how to export image only, I'm trying to get rid of the white page. Thank you. Richard.
Can you change the default settings for drawing objects? Or do you have to do color adjustments to fill & stroke after the fact?
Thanks a lot for make good and right video
HEY MAN --> "HOW CAN WE CHANGE THE COLOR THE PATTERNS THAT WERE CREATED INSIDE THE THE "FILL" ?"
HELP.
ANYWAYS THANKS FOR UR EFFORTS.
I'm new to this program, I appreciate you taking time to get beginners up. I have a question about the background colors of the tools, mine is black, your screen is white. I have been trying to change the color but have not found out where to change it. Thanks
Hi, I'm new to Inkscape and like your tutorials. Could you tell me how to create a transparent circle on a white/color (1920x1080) background? I've tried export options of Page and Drawing, but only get a transparent circle, i.e. without background. Thank you so very much.
RGB (red, green, blue) are colors to print on black paper or monitor screen. Full saturation of those will create white screen.
CMYK (cyan magenta yellow black) are colors used to print on white paper.
Cyan magenta and yellow in full saturation will give black color on white paper, but this is a lot of ink waste, so to avoid it black color is use instead.
well done sir!
You are awesome!
Love your tutorials! Binge watching right now! Just a question. If i want to create something for POD, would i be able to use my creations made on inkscape? Are the fonts and patterns allowed for commercial use?
Can't wait to learn more. Thank you for the amazing lessons.
Hey, do you have a video that explains the custom stroke style?
