    I used to work with adobe products but since it can be expensive and i cant own the software and having difficulty bouncing between old and newer files is a hastle i decided to try out inkscape because its opensourse. Everything feels like a review of stuff i know and i'll get the hang of this soon enough. Your tutorials are quiet useful and easy to grasp. I find that tutorials tend to skip steps and leave the learner confused and left behind. You are very good at this.

    The reason the file size is not as huge as expected is that the png format supports compression and a blank background will compress to a small size.

    Notes from Lesson 4
    ⦁ To have objects together, select one of the objects first, then hold down the shift key on your keyboard and select another object.
    ⦁ You can have as many objects selected as you want using the same procedure. You can then move them, change their colors, size, etc. at once.
    ⦁ If you click on the Esc key or on any part of the page the objects will be deselected
    ⦁ To keep the selected objects together, click Object in the menu bar and choose group. The objects will remain together even if you click on an empty space on the page.
    ⦁ You can also group objects by holding the Ctrl + G in your keyboard.
    ⦁ To ungroup the objects, select ungroup in the menu bar.
    ⦁ You can duplicate an object or a group by selecting it and holding Ctrl + D in your keyboard.

    Again... Inkscape super hero! I have some designing to do... Tshirts heat transfer to cut out... some metal craft dies to design for both my mom and myself (I literally want to design a soap box for my handmade soaps and have the metal die made.)... wine / mead and beer bottle labels for home brews ect. I have proper sticker material to cut out and put on coffee cups ect. I am nerdy in things like... conventions and D&D... but this kind of software was a thorn in my side. I have found the software for my cameo cutter frustrating and it does not have the EPS I need to get something made. You I am doing all the steps along with you... pause and do... pause and do. For me it works. Thanks again for helping me have the ability to fix this stuff so I can keep on crafting important things.... you know... like beer and character sheets. :D

    I have never used any vector graphics programs at all, i'm pretty familiar with photoshop and gimp but since i've been learning video game design vector graphics are very important.
    I searched a few different phrases on youtube to try and find a tutorial explaining how to create a character in inkscape, but all i found were sped up time lapse videos with zero explanation as to what they were doing.

    maybe you should consider putting these up on udemy.com i would have paid $10 for this complete course.

    I'm wondering why you would have to set the dpi when vector is mathematical and the colour depths are already set in the file. 100% opaque for example. The printer should be able to stretch it to whatever size he wants, right? It should not have to be 36 x 36", right? I think dpi is only for raster art files not in vector format. Right?

I still have some issues trying to figure out why I'm not exporting both parts of design together?? Does anyone know if i need to do something besides select them both? Same with using the "difference" tool...I made both things "objects" and hit union...but it doesn't always cut???

    • @TJFREE
      @TJFREE  Před 4 lety

      Thanks Sue! Sometimes the 'difference' and 'union' tools will not work because one of the paths is actually a group (even if its a single path, it can still be grouped by itself). I run into this issue fairly often, and it may be what's causing your issue.

    • @evvie01
      @evvie01 Před 4 lety

      Sometimes part of your drawing could be off the page or print area, that may exclude part of your drawing too. Also to make sure you get the whole drawing do a full group, 'drag a box around everything to select it then group all of it together' then if some small part is just a little off the page it will be anchored by the whole drawing.

  • @Chill1332
    @Chill1332 Před 5 lety

    Okay....so...I am kind of confused. I thought one of the big points of having a vector program was that you could export vector images that can be scaled up to as big or as small as you wanted without losing detail. So....whats' with having to tell it pixels or inches or any size for that matter? I thought it was math based, not size based. It seems I might as well just use Photoshop and save it as a PNG from there. I'm new to this kind of program so what I've heard isn't jiving with what I'm learning....

    If i create something on Inkscape on page dimensions as a4 at 300dpi for print. Can I then save the exact same design and document in a different size i.e. a3 or A5 without having to edit the entire image. Is there a way to export the file this way?

    This is good. How do you specify the dpi or ppi to export?

    How did you export with a transparent background? Whenever I export, the background is white.
