Welcome to my Tutorial Series on cello technique and general music, performance, and career tips!
I’m 48, and just bought a cello , never played any instrument in my life, but I think it’s never too later 😀
Who else wants to have a cello and watching this?
your eyebrows is about to meet........
Over 45 years old here and yesterday asked my 102 year old friend if it was too late to learn how to play my first instrument. She said no, go for it! Since the 3rd grade I've wanted to learn cello, and this is the year! Thank you for your videos, I look forward to watching the series. Any tips for the middle aged newbie??
hmmmmm... I can't get the bow to make any sound at all...
An easy way to remember downbow and upbow... is your elbow moves down and up with each. your elbow moves down for downbow and up for upbow.
Me explaining to my husband who plays the violin what you said about your thumb being 0 and he’s like “NOOOOO 0 means open or mute, you’re playing mute!” I’m like “no that’s your thumb! Yeah a plain 0 means open but the one that’s a o- means your thumb” so we had to settle it with Siri, he also was trying to get me to put a violin hold on my bow and He’s like “your holding it wrong, your bow is too loose and you should not tilt your bow back like that” I’m like “wellll mister, in order to get these notes out of this much bigger instrument you need to do it just a little different. You use your neck, I use my chest.” We had to end up calling his stepdad who is a music teacher and he’s like “THEYRE DIFFERENT YOU PLAY THEM DIFFERENTLY!” 😂
Anyone watching this in 2020 quarantine?
I'm 55 yrs old. I played bassoon in high school, but I find I can no longer hold my breath as long as I used to. I have always luved the cello. I'm thinking of taking lessons, but I'm afraid I'm too old.
I have played the violin for 14 years and now I’m interested in playing the Cello.
i'm 20, coming out of a looong and deep depression and ready to take my life back
Well that's it. I'm ordering a cello now.
The way your whole family plays the cello🥺thats sooo cute
I started playing cello 17 years ago, i stop when i had my children, picking it back up, crazy how much i remember, it never leaves you
You don’t even understand how incredibly helpful this lesson was! I love your teaching… introducing yourself and getting to know you in the beginning of the video made me feel like I was there with you. Thank you. 🙏
I'm 63 and recently thought of playing the cello after retiring for personal pleasure. I like your tutorials.
I'm 72 and have had two lessons. It's certainly awkward right now. I appreciated watching you give great tips for proper positioning and relaxing. Relaxing is my current challenge, but it will come!!
I’m 63 and brand new at this. Thank you for these training videos! It’s never too late!!!
This is the best posture vid anywhere. Been learning cello for 14 mnths and my overall health has improved hugely...plenty aches and pains but my posture, the way I stand...its made a huge difference... feel 10 yrs younger.
I’ve played violin since 6th grade and I’ve always wanted to play cello. I’m still really young, and not in college. But I feel like music is my gift and I’m on a quest to learn to play a lot of instruments. This video really helped me thank you :)
