10 Things I Like About LEGO Barad-dûr & 10 Things I Don't

  • LEGO revealed Barad-dûr alongside the teaser trailer for Rings of Power S2 and it is just as good as the Rivendell set we got last year! This video allows me to talk over my pros and cons as someone who doesn't usually spend this much money on a single set (Beside Mos Eisley, that was a one off). Let me know what you think of it in the description and I look forward to hopefully getting more LOTR sets next year!

    Would you rather pick up Barad-dur or Rivendell? Let me know!

    • @kristofnijs2460
      @kristofnijs2460 Před měsícem +1

      I'm going to pick up Barad-dur. Rivendel is awesome and I built it once (my sister owned it), but I think it's a bit too cumbersome, though I love the mini's.
      And as for extra LOTR sets...
      Minis Tirith (Gondor)
      Meduseld (The golden hall of Rohan)
      A revamp of Helm's deep.
      Bag end
      The green dragon OR the prancing pony
      If you want the ringwraiths:
      The battle of weather top or a vignette with Arwen at the river (If you want him, come and claim him!)
      I had a chat with an assistant lego store manager. He told me that the medieval theme will end by the end of this year, in favour of the space theme, but that there will most likely be another LOTR set within 2 years. Take it with a grain of salt however, as there is no hard evidence.

      @@kristofnijs2460 The real question is get the GWP or wait for a sale...
      There really are some great ideas they could make for the next set. Fingers crossed a revamp of the theme is also looking likely. If this set is as popular as Rivendell I think it's likely we get a third set in 3 years. Thank you for your comment!

    I for one is glad they didn't include any rings of power references.. they are focusing on the original trilogy and thats what's important to me personally at least! also I really didn't mind the freedoms they took with the interior.. but honestly my initial reaction was "what, why?" but the more I thought about it the more I realized that it's just, fun? and it grew on me.

    • @mastermouldie
      @mastermouldie  Před měsícem +3

      I guess it's like including a clone wars reference on the death star 😂 I think the interior will look better in person when we can see all the little details, I just wanted this set for cheaper!

      @mastermouldie  Před měsícem +1

      @@starwarsfan795 I think it's a great storyline, but just like the prequel Movies initially, people want to see more of what they loved the first time round. Perhaps we need an animated show like Clone Wars every time a franchise starts a new story 😂

    • @Laesis

      @@mastermouldie While I respect your opinion, the writing of Rings Of Power really wasn't that great, very inconsistent and not all that special, at least in my opinion... Lore-wise it really is terrible though. Completely fucked up the lore and the world Tolkien made.
      I personally have always loved the prequels and The Clone Wars too. But RoP really wasn't good in my opinion lmao. Lacked all of the epicness, focused on very random small scale stuff, the characters were pretty bland and honestly made no sense when compared to who they were supposed to be and honestly it just didn't feel like Lord Of The Rings. The Hobbit movies weren't great, but they still *felt* like they were in the same world, even if they added tons of nonsensical and unnecessary shit that wasn't in the books or fucked up the lore generally.

    • @mastermouldie
      @mastermouldie  Před měsícem

      @@Laesis It does fell like a different world, so I guess the Sequel trilogy is a better comparison. The writers have done well but it will take a lot to get out from the movies shadow. Fingers crossed season 2 will clear up most of the confusion!

    You should know Rings of Power has nothing to do with the Original Trilogy. The Trilogy was made by Warner Brothers and ROP is made by Amazon. 2 totally different companies that happen to adapt Tolkiens books. There is 0 connection exepts for having the same source material. This is a LOTR (Warner Bros Trilogy) set. Not an Amazon ROP set.

    • @mastermouldie
      @mastermouldie  Před měsícem +1

      I guess from a legal standpoint, LEGO played it safe. I still thought for sure the desk was going to have a reference to Sauron's 'hideout' in the show.

  • @Thunder-Ghost
    @Thunder-Ghost Před 21 dnem +1

    I think this set is beautiful and the figures are amazing I'am also pretty happy that they didn't include any rings of power references that show was just awful it would be cool to see some others references tho maybe a picture of Morgoth or a werewolf since Sauron was called the lord of werewolves

    • @mastermouldie
      @mastermouldie  Před 21 dnem

      I've seen not many people who enjoy the show but it would make so much more sense for a reference to the books. With all the werewolf elements and prints in Ninjago, this would be so easy to have added.

    I love everything apart from Frodo and Sam. There is zero defence for them being in their Rivendell outfits. I’d honestly be happier if the set never included them and it was just the 8 other figures. Instead I’ve spent months expecting them in their dirty ragged Mordor clothes and then we get this…..
    I’m normally pretty chill about Lego cutting corners but this one is just straight up unacceptable.

    • @mastermouldie

      It's very weird, especially as they're displayed on a separate build. Perhaps the designers had to reduce the set towards the end more than they expected. Makes me wonder what the first draft looked like!

      I’m a big fan of the books (as well as movies) so it’s easier for me to say. I did want a small reference, like a sticker, but I see the show has a very different fan base to the movies. I also think the show would have done much better if it was in its own universe, rather than LOTR.

      They should have filled it sparingly, like the Yavin play set, to keep the cost down a bit.

      @cointomato9768 Před měsícem +1

      @mastermouldie agreed. Honestly, they should have just not had an interior at all and made the tower 360 all the way around and taller. Maybe they might have to jack the price up a bit, but it's the most iconic castle in the most iconic movie, so an expensive price would be justified.

    • @UrgeToPurge
      @UrgeToPurge Před měsícem +6

      You clearly have too high expectations if you’re calling this set “trash”. It’s perfect and it’s fun with some interior , if it where close off it would be 1000$😂

      @mastermouldie  Před měsícem

      @@UrgeToPurge Trash is thier opinion. No LEGO is actually rubbish, so perhaps there are better words. One of the best ways LEGO keep the price down is only building half. If you want a full one you can always buy 2, but technic pins to make it easier to connect the 2 are more than welcome!

      @UrgeToPurge Před měsícem +3

      @@mastermouldie It’s fine to have an opinion, but calling i trash is kind of disrespectful to the designers who have done an amazing job capturing the essence of Barad Dur. It of course not going to have perfect proportions, as is the case with a lot of other sets.
