Amazing timing, just watched Ed Pratt's last video of Ed and Sylvian in Latvia, and here you are with Sylvian. Strange forces at work here. True love story, love for life.
Just a great story and thanks for sharing. As a Gen Xer, I am always impressed with the younger generations (males) I work with that are so open about their inner struggles. I love the struggles that multi day touring provides. Also you do not give up, you just find ways not to do things. Cycle touring teaches you that daily. Cycling gives you access to freedom and clarity. You have exchanged one addiction for another, cycling is your new drug. Best of luck to you. If you are ever in Texas, I will act as your interpreter while here.
Thanks for watching! I personally wouldn't consider cycling my new drug, but i guess you're still right 😅 I need an interpeter in Texas? Same to you bro, much love ❤️
You know it's funny.I've read so often that if someone says they wanna go on a wild or long journey, it means they're at risk of harming themselves. But sometimes, I think (and I speak from experience) it just means that the here-and-now is what's harmful, and you just want to live your life out there in the big world rather than suffering beneath the same roof every day. This was inspiring, and gives me hope for my own journey. God bless you!
In my experience from talking to many, many people on the road, it's not always the risk of self harm. Not by a long shot. But, each and every one has their very own set of good and deep reasons on why and how to do it, just like you do :) For me, staying there would've been harmful. But i'm just one sample out of thousands. I'm sure you're gonna make it! Don't push yourself too hard in the beginning, listen to your body and mind. Take it easy and get used to the life out there. And all of a sudden you're like new, without even realizing it :) Best of luck, safe travels, much love! ❤️
Thanks for watching! I hope i can inspire many more people to jumt over their shadows and reach out to achieve their dreams. Whatever these dreams may be. Much love ❤️
Wow what a inspiration. Good to see you over come yourself hardness and find joy in what you doing. Keep cycling and keep post coz we are waiting for your next episode....
I also discovered that nature and exercise is good for my mental health, and cycle touring is a great way to experience both 😊 Thank you for sharing your story
4:10. Ed was also my inspiration @ age 64. I’m now addicted and ride most days on my 29” or 36”. Only regret was not getting to it earlier in life. (Ed should never have to pay for anything unicycle related again😜).
He kind of singlehandedly inspired multiple generations to ditch the training wheel and pick up a proper bike :D It's never too late to pick up unicycling, I should've done it earlier too! Just a wild guess, but I think he can get sponsored by anyone if he wants :D
@@LostSpoke right now I'm in Qatar but soon I'll be in norway and I'll be based there for a few months so welcome to Sandefjord near Oslo anytime you like to visit
Oh man, that hit me right in the feels. I'm happy for you that you found your way by unicycling through so many countries. I did a couple road-trips as well and you and Ed Pratt are really inspiring me to try one on a unicycle ! Good thing going for me is I know how to ride it, although a big wheel must be really challenging ! I wish you the best for your new adventures, keep going 🧡
Go for it! It's a life changing experience, no matter your background or reasons to do it. The most challenging part is mounting. Once this thing rolls, it rolls! Mental challenges are another topic tho :) Thanks for watching and the kind words! All the best to you! Much love ❤️
Thank you for sharing your story! I'm very much on a similar journey currently. During the pandemic/lockdown, my perspective of life was reduced to the confines of my 6.2" phone screen. I was addicted to TikTok, Instagram and the like. I began consuming cannabis edibles regularly and struggled with moderating it. I sat around in bed all day, hardly moving and eating nothing but fast food. I told myself it was okay because what else was there to do? Until eventually, I felt the need to get back into shape. I tried walking, jogging, running, and the like but none of it ever held as firmly as my teenage love for flatland unicycling. So at 27, 12 years since my last ride, I bit the bullet and bought a brand new KH20 2023 uni (which part-by-part was soon replaced by a KH/Mad4One hybrid). Since then I've really enjoyed regaining the tricks I used to be able to do, as well as the health benefits, such as mobility and weight loss (18 lbs down in 3 months! 🎉) And now, if all goes according to plan, I'll begin my own 440+ mile uni ride across the state of Utah, USA, inspired by the amazing ride performed by Ed Pratt. I can't wait!
Thanks for watching! Isn't it crazy how much the lockdown has changed our lives? So many people have similar stories to tell. Kinda scary actually.. Amazing! Congrats on your weight loss and on finding something that helps and motivates you! Keep going! What setup are you gonna use? Are you gonna post about the journey? I'd love to follow your adventure! What route are you taking? Utah seems kinda hilly for a first tour.. All the best, have a good one!
Wow, quite the ride! Lots of climbing, that's gonna be tough! Wish you all the best for that trip! I'd love to see some updates when you're on the way. And i'm sure, others too ;)
Great to see you share your story - and being so open is amazing to see 🎉 I think unicycling and helping with mental health aren’t that uncommon a union. I don’t think my story really counts as much as yours does - but I did “find” unicycling in 2012 when at a low ebb with anxiety and Drama School study pressures, and stage fright (it’s real!) which all weren’t doing me good - and at the time it was what spurred me view uni-riding as: Mind Your Balance, Balance Your Mind >> it’s me: mindbalance. It’s since become THE guiding force for holistic good in my life and purpose and one of only three core achievements I’m deeply bound to and proud of. My kids will unicycle I feel sure; I believe it does you so much good across many, many levels. And who doesn’t love the look of spokes spinning freely on a mono-cycle ⚙️❤️
The unicycle does not only help, it's also a good indicator that shows how well someone feels. You can't ride properly when your head is stuck somewhere else. Only when your head and mind are free, you're able to ride straight and well balanced. Love the way you got the channelname/nickname :) All the best to you, much love ❤️
Enjoyed the video, start to finish. Certainly the adventure and experience is worth more than gold . At the end of the video, I can't help but think "The grass is always greener on the other side" this thinking leads one to Constantly flee bad habits and situations without actually dealing with them. It sounds like there is a lot of struggle within you and I hope you find that inner peace.
That's a key part i didn't talk about in the video. I dealt with these demons (and still do) for over 16 years, more than half my life. I had enough. I had to take a step away and look at it from another perspective. A perspective i couldn't find while staying in these circumstances. It's a drastic step and might look like running away, yet it kept me going. It was my only chance left. I'm quite sure i'd have given up completely otherwise. And now i'm still here to tell this story, talk about it. But most importantly, being an inspiration to others in the same situation to not give up! Never! Thanks for watching! Much love! ❤️
Singapore was the inital goal i wanted to reach. The farthest point possible from my home only on land, excluding russia. If i had reached that, i'd've gone to australia for sure!
Thanks mate! The panniers were made by Cary Gray, but i don't know if he still makes them. All the rest I made myself based on images I found of Ed's and Cary's setups. Most is explained in this video here: 36" Unicycle Touring Setup czcams.com/video/RG4SRvzp4p8/video.html
I can't imagine cycle touring with another person. Maybe for a couple of days but no way on a long trip, I always go alone. The freedom is the best part, having another person along takes that away.
It all depends on how well you fit together. But sure both has its pros and cons. It's great to be able to share awesome moments with a travel partner. Suffering together through challenges makes them more bearable. I couldn't decide what i prefer more tho.
Well done, my friend. While am much further along on my "ride" than you (70 this past November), I have had similar challenges with more than my share of failures, and so I understand at least some of your challenges and doubts. So, without coming at you too strong or too soon, may I share that my faith in Christ and his love for ALL of us without condition has been my one constant foundation through it all. So may I humbly suggest you find a Bible somewhere (any Christian Church anywhere will gladly give you one) and look up a few verses. An oversimplification to remember is this - the OLD Testament (first "half" of the Bible, beginning with Genesis), essentially tells of the PROMISE of the Christ and the fact that even before being born and living amongst us, He was with God, the Father "in (the) Beginning". My favorite Book in the OT is, hands down, Isaiah, one of the "major" Prophets. Chapter 40, verse 31 is a well known and cherish verse reminding us that " . . . those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run (unicycle??) and not grow weary, walk and not be faint". Or, in the New Testament (the NT is, essentially, the FULFILLMENT of the PROMISE spoken of in the OT), you can go to the Book of Matthew and read Chapter 11, verse 28 where you will be encouraged to "come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest". So here's wishing you a safe and wondrous journey, both on your cycle and beyond, and may all your roads lead you to a deeper understanding of who we all are as creations of a Loving and Forgiving God, who chose to come and live amongst us (Christ was both "fully God and fully human" . . . yes, a miracle, no doubt, but this is the power of the Almighty and NOT something any normal human could ever do or be), and then die on the cross that our sins (and sinful nature) may be fully forgiven that ultimately we may stand before him after our (bodily) death and be admitted to Heaven through our faith in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, in whose name I pray these things for you. Amen
Thank you very much! I'm very glad that you found something, faith, that gives you hope, will and strength. For me, it does not. As i said in the video, i believe in myself. Thank you for the prayers and kind words! In nomine patris, et filii, et spiritus sancti. Amen
