Is Paula still one of the most iconic performers to this day? Yes, and?
Just made said comment.😊
Funny I got this vibe from Ari’s new video 😂
Ariana Grande definitely used this amazing choreography and aesthetics as an inspiration.
She's getting ready to go on tour. Trying to decide if going to that would ruin all of this.
Love this comment 😂 yes and is the reason I came to see this video for the first time
I don't think anyone could touch Paula or Janet in the 80s with dancing.

Both videos are similar in some ways, They have somewhat the same elements.
Thank goodness I wasn’t the only one

Ariana's video is paying homage to Cold Hearted. Paula responded on her Instagram.
I immediately thought the same thing! Maybe AG got inspired from this video?!
The violin part is straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥
YES YES YES !!!
Not real, since it was done on a synthesizer (Roland D50).
Paula Abdul is an icon. She's one of the best choreographers and dancers of all time.
and Forever Your Girl is an amazing pop album with hit after hit and amazing visuals.
I still remember howNo Nonsense she was when the first group of Children were Let Go and Jules called her The Pop Diva Dance Icon. Alot of them grew up in the 1990's watching her on TV or even her Music.
Truth!!
This song is the best from the 80's
She did Janet Jackson chorgraphy

This MV is a classic. Choreography is on point. Paula Abdul is a visionary artist who is so ahead of her time. A pop icon and she deserves all the recognition. 💐
While watching the video of Ariana Grande's song Yes And, this song came to my mind.
İ love Paula Abdul she is always iconic❤️💎
True! The moment I saw Ariana's video it screamed Cold Hearted Snake by Paula Abdul! the thing is that Ariana can't dance so it was a VERY LIGHT version.
Of course it's a classic, young David Fincher directed it !
Used to do this choreography in my dining room when I was a teen. Loved Paula Abdul.
Ariana’s fans should listen/watch Paula’s other videos. She had us all in a chokehold in the early 90s. One of the best pop albums EVER. Highly recommend!!!!!! ❤

Bravo Paula..you created a timeless piece of choreography for all generations.
Because it is REAL dance...not just a bunch of grinding, club moves, and stripper pole antics
@@razorfett147 Yep, back when music videos were about featuring dancers that were attractive, fit, and talented, not just a bunch STD-infected, out-of-shape strippers with cellulite-covered butts who only got the job because they were willing to let a bunch of nasty rappers run a train on them. So, it's pretty questionable whether or not at least a couple of those dancers were "STD-infected" or not. Why can't you just be happy for others' successes? Paula Abdul Forever Your Girl 1988
Paula Abdul - Cold Hearted (Official Video) 1988
I hope everyone gives Paula her dance history due!!! She is a trained technical jazz, modern and tap dancer who choreographed her own videos in the 80's and used jazz dance technique. She also choreographed for Janet Jackson (What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nasty Boys) in the 80's. The 80's is when technical jazz dance became very popular outside the "dance world" thanks to the explosion of 80's dance movies (Fame, Flashdance, etc.)and the introduction of MTV (1981) and music video choreographers like Paula. This particular video is her homage to jazz dance legend Bob Fosse. If you watch his movie "All That Jazz" , you will see the scene she was honoring with this video and she has given credit to him in public for influencing her. Some of the singers you see today do NOT give credit to those who came before them and most of them today are NOT doing their own choreography. I always make sure to include her in my dance history lessons.Props to Paula Abdul!!
Jacqueline Soulchic
She choreographed Janet's Rhythmnation tour.
Well said
Yeah, she also credited Gene Kelly for Opposites Attract. That video was based off a dance Kelly did in Anchors Aweigh with an animated Jerry from Tom & Jerry.
Jacqueline Soulchick Ahhh, that’s why it looked like some of the dance moves in “Chicago.”
Ari is cute but wow this song is still ten times better. No comparison whatsoever.
One of the greatest music videos of all time, almost nothing can top this.(Except maybe Michael Jackson)
the choreography in this video was so provocative almost explicit for it's time. compared to today's standards it's G rated yet absolutely brilliant. We love you Paula!
No this is sexy. We went from sexy to smutty.
I think sensual is a better word
it's older than that - it was inspired by the "Take Off with Us / Airotica" scene from 1979's "All That Jazz," which is about Bob Fosse's career in creating sexually charged choreography
I remember watching this as a young teen feeling like I was watching something I shouldn’t be lol
There is even two guys paired off together, if you look closely
That choreography is clean and dirty at the same time, Paula is a beast
She is a beast when it comes to choreography

2:57 The violins! This whole video was ahead of its time. I remember watching it as a kid and was mesmerized, still am.
I remember thinking that this was racy and I LOVED it!
This is one of my favorite Paula songs and videos. This video is amazing!
And still can't be topped even today in 2020. Huh if I was in the battle of chose the best dance video. I will most definitely chose this one and walk away with a win.
Same
I used to watch this video all the time as a kid and I also forgot how beautiful Paula Abdul was and still is.She may not have been the best singer but her choreography is 100% on point.
I just noticed that in the last part of the video in at least a couple of occasions two men are dancing together. Considering that this was 1989, it was pretty groundbreaking!
Bob Fosse had that going on in the movie All That Jazz, which was about 10 years earlier. That's where the style of dance in this video comes from--even the metal scaffolding on the set, the costumes, and a lot of other touches. (I didn't see the movie until long after this video came out, so I didn't know it at the time!)
Jim AItruist She taught so many 80's Pop icons to dance!!
niconico00 Yeah I noticed and it made me pretty happy
Seen that part when the video first came out. I just see spectacular and amazing dancers. Not analyzing it too deep I guess. The video is just BRILLIANT!

The fact that this music video inspired Ariana Grandes yes, and? music video is so iconic

"that spinning jump into the split? i mean come on!"
Right, it hecka gives you some ideas but if you look at her beauty and her ability, as an instructor, and how much he has invested, it would be a discredit to the industry and her safety to pursue such choreography without putting a few safeguards in place. Beyond that statement, what the fuck do you want her to look like and how many fucking risks do you need a bad ass bitch thats talking to a bunch of futuristic snake motherfuckers that don't pay so much as $20 bill to watch her preform? If I was her agent, she would either have what she needed right fucking now, or go get a walker.

Yes, exactly
...BEING A RETIRED PRO DANCER, (1983-1993), I actually want to CRY, at the sheer BEAUTY of this choreography; VERY busy, intricate, stylized, and, very, VERY hard to do...It has SO many intricacies..... (cont.)
...The flow of ALL the dancers in the back, matching the frontal dancers with Paula (at 1:23), Paula dancing on a scaffolding in HEELS (1:57), the erotic flow of the 'private' dance (2:25), the VERY practiced 'floorslide' (2:55), the in-tandem spins of ALL the dancers (at 3:02...VERY hard to get...) the sexualized choreography (pre-dating Madonna's "Girlie Show" choreo, by 5 years..) (3:44)...
...THIS Video, NOT "Straight Up", shows Paula's choreography at it's PEAK, and I'm HONORED to have studied it, Summer of 1989....I wasn't chosen, but at least I'm not "Cold Hearted", because of it....(4:18) .... ; )
The homage to "Take Off with Us." From Bob Fosse's ALL THAT JAZZ is undeniable. One of the greatest music videos ever.
@@michaeldemocko443 ...you KNOW! ...I was going to mention that, but Paula mentioned it in her (VHS) Video collection...
This is what made me love dance even more
I'm surprised how many comments say she's not that great. Or this video is okay; but straight up shows she hasn't any real talent. Heck: Looking at her career tells the truth. Like: When A list people need someone they came to her. Look at the awards she has. Many came straight from the dance world. A lot of ppl leaving those comments miss that this video is more of a tribute than a showcase for her to sing a pop song. Obviously it has Bob Fosse all over it. Much from All That Jazz is used. I think it also shows the devotion of dancers. To work until their feet bleed to get it right. But this is my view. & I posted it b/c yours & the replies to it are mostly from dancers. And i wonder if I'm maybe ight. Or if I'm reading o much into just a video.
As a pro dancer, do you think Madonna is a good dancer? There was an argument in another thread where a few people were sparring back and forth about who was the better dancer. Janet Jackson or Madonna. I don't think Madonna can dance at all. But, then again, I'm not an expert. That's why I wanted to know what your professional opinion is. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.😊🙏💞😺🍀
