In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Dr. Meeran Chadha Borwankar in conversation with Raj Shamani. She is a former IPS officer, she has served Maharashtra Cadre for 40 years.
She has written books like ‘Inspector Chougule’, and ‘Madam Commissioner: The extraordinary life of an Indian police officer’. After listening to her life stories, you will realize that she is a fearless soul.
In this episode, we talked about a chapter she wrote on ‘Two and half arrests’ and whether Mumbai police came in the plan of Ajit Doval to catch Dawood. She shared that underworld people Vicky Malhotra and Farid Tanasha were arrested. She shared how she makes clear decisions during critical times and shared the stories on the same. We also talked about the 70 rounds of firing story, how crimes in UP have decreased, and explained the back story of the Jalgaon sex scandal. We discussed whether politicians use IPS officers as their puppets and stories of crimes in Pune and Mumbai in the late 90s
Towards the end we talked about how big gangsters used work, what was their motivation and how they became so powerful. She shared a crazy story of a female stalker that will shock you. We also discussed how the intervention of technology has significantly reduced corruption, and terrorist attacks in Maharashtra during her time and ended our conversation by talking about the Balkis Banu case and she with her team put the culprits in jail again. I've noticed that 90% of former IPS officers lack the balls to do anything against politicians while in their job, but after they retire, they act all righteous and speak as if they are the only people honest people in the world. Absolutely hate such spineless officers.. dawood ibrahim or any criminal can be caught if the bureaucracy decides to ignore the whims of politicians..
100% right..I've also listen to the many of Bureaucrats that also involved in illigal incidents like..extortion , harrasment ,torcher in case of powerfull person But after retirement they represent them as a the LORD of the world ...And politician as a very big crupt. Any illegal activities can't done by only politicians police also involve in respective incidents.
But it is bitter reality that some counted officers pay their duty with honesty & according to the justice system (law).
~~Govt employees also misuses their power toward the normal citizens while they scared from powerfull person.

No dichotomy in what she says and does. No false ego to show her seniority amongst other participants.
