A priest trying multiple times to read Dostoyevsky but never going past the first couple of pages is in itself a great joke. That's the beauty of Father Ted: in another show that would be a whole scene, here it's implied in a couple of lines

I first saw Father Ted in the early 1990s, still consider it a great comedy series.
I love this show, it still makes me laugh, no matter how many times I've seen each episodes.

Gemma Craven is right there in the pantheon of the greats with Jenny Agutter and Helen Mirren for us older men. The lipstick scene from Pennies from Heaven was pure art.

@@johno4521 As we do? I used to work with a Catholic woman and she refused point blank to even wqtch father ted. I tried explaining it was just a comedy and was never intended to be anti catholic but she still refused.
