The one who got scammed was US. Great car, awesome vid! Keep it up Randy 🔥🔥🔥
Why the clickbait man? It just needed gas. However, I have a soft spot for that generation of Firebird. They are pretty cool.
Drama sells
Hate that and avoid watching channels once bit.
Adults whose mind goes to lying...avoid like the plague.
He stole it for 6k even if it needed 10k in work
6k is a great deal for that car. Usually the dash and door panels are cracked. Seats ripped at that price. I have a 94 black trans am. Picked it up with 40k miles for 5k a few years ago and needed some cosmetic and minor mechanical tlc from sitting. Now she’s like brand new and fun to drive. I am also a collector of 80s and 90s cars. Mostly Pontiac. I get them cheaper so I can fix them up and drive ‘em. My wife wants to kill me lol
Yeah thats a nice T/A I had a formula that was just garbage
For those saying that the gas gauge is off, the tanks in those models are wedge shaped \ / like a "V" smaller quantities registered higher on the gauge. I had a 95 Z28 and the fuel gauge would move slowly from full to half, and then take a nosedive after around half tank till empty 😅
I currently own a 95 z28, and had the same issues. Once it gets to a half a tank, you better find a gas station!
My friend used to say his fuel guage followed the silhouette of a woman, haha!
@@jokergordon8446 Maybe it's a Pontiac thing, my GTA and GTO are both like that. 😁
Was yelling at my screen to put gas in, thanks for doing that, my throat started to hurt
Randy, for your headlight motor issue, you can either change the headlight motor, or do the brass gear upgrade. My t/a had the same issue, seems like these and the c4 Corvette had same issue. I had a Corvette guy in my area help me out with the gear idea. Factory is plastic/nylon and due to age just strips out etc.......far as rear diff noise, check your fluid. May just need service
Good man Shawn, have the same issue in my C4 that i need to fix. You beat me to the comment :)
Good info!
Like your idea of replacing plastic with brass. Nice upgrade. The diff on Randy's car is done. Mine sounded\did the same thing. Quiet at low or high speeds but between 48 & 64 there was that annoying whine. Had to rebuild it. Got it professionally done and suspension work for $400. Hopefully the mirrors not working is just a blown fuse or just need silicone spray on the gears.
Yeah, rebuild isn't very expensive on the 10 bolt......but I do know it's a shot in the dark, but should be able to pop it open, clean it out and inspect it at the very least ....... The reseal with gasket and fill with 80w-90 synthetic and some friction modifier to get by........
Too bad he didn't get the t-top shades though......hot sun is something else when it's extremely hot outside
Had the exact same whine in the diff of my 98 firebird formula. Was the pinion bearing. Might also be worth checking the fluid level
Randy I hate to see you get rid of the older Firebird but this new one looks and sounds so much better. Plus you seem to really enjoy this one more. Do your thing buddy!😊
This is the type of channel you tell youtube to never show you again
Clearly out of gas, clickbait central
Lolz good observation 🤣
5 gallons gets over half a tank? So it's got like a 9 gallon tank lol... I think those are 16 gallon tanks
I would be concerned about the low oil pressure
Hope he doesn't start turning into Scotty Kilmer the clickbait king.
I wasn't very fond of the video title either. I will say though, I love the classic 80s and 90s cars that you're acquiring. Beautiful collection 🥂
It ain’t got no gas in it! Lol 😂 👍
I know what's wrong with it
@@erikthefurious5656 People who buy sight unseen then complain...well too bad. lol
that rear end noise was very common on those cars, bad news is it will take a ring and pinion and bearings to make it go away, still it is not a bad job, parts are cheap, it only takes one day, a few bulbs a good detail and some TLC and you have a great car worth a lot of money
Randy keep doing the 80s -90s content you are getting the gems
I also have a 25th anniversary trans am originally my grandfather’s that he bought off the showroom floor. It’s in rough shape now but she’s about to get completely overhauled and restored!
Are you freaking serious you never checked the gas gauge wow buddy
This is a awesome car. Like yourself, I have a dream car. This Firebird Trans Am is it. Since i was a teenager i have wanted one. Hell, I would be happy with just getting to drive one, I remember while i was a teenager I would go to the local Pontiac dealer just to admire the Trans Am. Love these years of them. The LT1 just has that certain sound to it. Have fun with that car for me!
So how is it a scam?? Because it was empty on gas?? Smh…..hate clickbait
Yup...i wont watch the channel ever again. No need to lie thats for kids & cheating wives
Great car, great deal! Seeing you drive it I now miss the 95 TA I had new back in the day
Nice ride! i have a '96 Trans Am WS6. Also an automatic...... but I only paid $7500 for it in '19. Just flipped 61k miles. I love the 4th gens. I tell people the car makes me feel 18 again.....until I try to get out of it! Enjoy and keep it!
Good price! Not making them anymore and the WS is the one to have
Randy, same thing here. My 93 Z28 runs out immediately when it just touches the line for empty. And when it's full, the needle on the gauge shows a quarter tank over full. You learn to adjust to it. Watch that last 3/8s of a tank. Its gone super fast!
RANDY...OUTSIDE OF A CORVETTE THIS IS MY NEXT FAVORITE CAR OF ALL TIME!
THIS 25TH ANNIVERSARY TRANS AM EDITION IS TO DIE FOR. PLEASE KEEP THIS EXACT CAR FOREVER!!!!
Check ALL the fuses and relays for damage, etc, etc. Those would be easy fixes if the car has blown fuses and or relays.
Your codes at 23:53 are RPO codes. Basically it just tells you what options your car has if you want to go decode them. 6K is a great deal on this T/A! I had a 2000 Firebird and this video definitely brought back a ton of memories, like the gear noise from the headlight motors. I rebuilt my motors with brass gears and it eliminated the issue. Getting them out is a pain in the ass but it’s definitely doable. As far as leaks are concerned, the fourth gens are notorious for rear main and pan gasket leaks so keep an eye on those. My old car had a rear main leak and admittedly it wasn’t a terrible leak, but it was noticeable especially when you drove with the windows down or with the heater on and got a nice whiff of burning oil.
Hey Randy, I just got done watching your video on the Pontiac Firebird Firebird formula. It looks like it runs like a scolded cat. I’m glad you figured out. All I needed is gas. I can’t wait to see what your next plans are to do with it. hopefully you decide to keep it for a while and play with it and can’t wait to see it with your next video that you got planned with it. I hope you have a great day and I’ll talk to you. soon
I know you dont smoke anymore but im pretty sure i saw on the build sheet in the glovebox a code that suggests the driver be smoking a cigarette at all times for optimum performance. The previous owner was based looking at that ash tray hahah
Another score!!! I seriously remember when these cars were new sitting outside on the lots I was only 9 but loved them then and love it now . That white on blue is hard to beat but the 99 with the blue / chrome wheels look even better (30th Anniversary ) I’d definitely hang onto that long term bc eventually the older mid 90s trans am will get recognized and gain value especially when the 98-02 get totally untouchable which is coming soon
I bet you feel silly, for not checking the gas right away, i'm glad it started.
You can fix that headlight. Its not fun but inside the motor is a plastic gear. You can rotate it away from where its stripped and fix it without having to buy a new assembly. Nice trans am Randy.
Randy, try the heat on "floor." Some GMs from the 90s and earlier had a feature where the air temperature coming out of the panel vents was limited, so that you could have hot air coming out the floor but cooler air at upper body level to keep comfortable due to the warming effect of the sun. Toyotas do that too, while Fords of the era would have the same temperature regardless of airflow selection.
my 82 rampage has two big vents that say "FLOOR AIR" on them
This channel is walk down memory lane for me lately! Had a 1996 Trans Am, 1988 Formula Firebird and and 1989 Z24. So random that you would purchase similar models all so close together for the channel! Loving the content! 🍻
Cool. I had an 88 Formula too. Mine was a 5 speed with the TPI engine.
@@Brian-dh9lp Mine too. White/Grey tone hardtop with black interior.
That body style of car was and is still my #1 favorite body style of car, I actually have a 1/24 scale 1993 Firebird that just got its new paint job in white and looks almost similar to that just without the stripe and the rims are different.
I’ve got one too
I have a 2001 Ws6 Ram Air Firebird
I have 2. I love them!
I just got a 2007 Pontiac Solstice, when I checked the carfax it had something similar listed, major damage reported on visual inspection. It’s been gone over thoroughly on a lift and no damage is anywhere that can be noticed visually.
Mine also has a LSD and whines, even after a rear end service, it is a known characteristic of the LSD rear end in this car.
Love that car! Sometimes the cold air intakes can make a whine noise like that which sounds like a rear end whine. Also being from Iowa, wonder if there is a rust spot on the frame that concerned them. I’m sure you figured it out already just curious. Big fan of the content Randy!
The "frame damage" could also be a flattened or dented spot somewhere on the structure from a speed bump or other obstruction. Being a unibody car, that could include pinch-welded ribs on the actual body structure or dent on one or both subframes.
As an fewer Iowan I'm also curious about if it has rust.
I also used to live in Central Iowa, the second I saw the dealership and Southwest 9th, I was like "oh Randy, Im sorry for you!" That is the east side dealer MO, make them look great, motor honey in the engine and sawdust in the trans, and price them sky high in hopes a high schooler gets starry-eyed by the looks.
It had a crack in the rear bumper under the taillight. With the difficulty in getting a replacement for that car, the last seller prob filed a Hagerty claim and had to disclose.
Hi Randy, I owned a similar Firebird in the past. Very fun to drive short distances. No fun on a long trip though, as the exhaust drone wears on a person. That rear diff. whine is not normal. And that rear diff. is considered one of the weak points of the car. I once heard it described as "Fragile as if it was made of glass".
use a stock type exhaust and its not awful- the fart cans will drive anyne mad
That was an issue with many of this era F bodies. Dont know if there was a recall or bulletin on it.
Lot of us subscribers been watching you since you've been working with your brother in a carport. Thanx for the click bait! Really Randy?? Nice ride😊
Flush the heater core with bucket of CLR with electric pump overnight-easier than replacing the it.
Very cool car. Looking forward to more on it.
Had one, great car. Test drove it liked it, bought it. Jumped in , wouldn't start. Out of gas, just like yours.
I honestly thought it sounded like it wasn't getting fuel when you cranked it lol 😅
Very nice Trans Am Firebird. A bottle or two of Chevron Techron high mileage fuel additive will dissolve the deposits on the fuel level sender in the fuel tank. It would appear that the fuel gauge isn't quite accurate. There are YT videos on removing/replacing the heater core. I would replace the fuel filter as all the nasty stuff from the bottom of the tank probably got pushed into the filter. Fix her and flip her, good to go!
You're probably going to need a new diff. I had a 2001 Camaro with the Y87 pkg which included many of the Z28 hardware with a posi traction rear. Most likely the same unit. I followed the service guide and took it in for a diff fluid change at 3k miles (only 3k the first time, then I think every 50k) and immediately after I had a whine. The stupid dealership would not fix it. They said it was normal. After going back and forth with them several times I said screw it and found a local shop that could replace the unit. I'm not sure what they replaced it with....but from the moment I drove out, no more noise ever and I put 100k on that car. If I remember correctly you have to use special fluid or an additive in that Torsen unit or it could get damaged and I bet the dealership didn't. Try doing a fluid change and use the specified friction additive and see if it goes away. If not, replace it.
You got a great deal. That car is really clean to be 30 years old. I never had an issue with my horn, not sure what is going on there. My heater did the same thing though, took forever to get hot. I flushed it gently with water and it helped a little, but it still too 10 miles in the winter to even start to get warm. I cannot believe that rear emblem is not faded and the dash is not cracked. Car must've been garage kept or maybe those things have been replaced. As far as I can tell, it needs a headlight motor, maybe some rear gears, horn (fuse), and that's it.
All time favorite body style of the Trans Am! You scored big time Randy and that white with blue stripe looks fresh! Those are RPO codes you found. Its fun decoding them and seeing the options your car has. That will be really fun to drive for a while! Love the video as always!👍
I've got a black 97 it has some of the same issues like the volume knob and the noise from the lights and that noise is the power motor for that light that can be replaced and it is available online
First a third gen Formula now a fourth gen Trans Am.. that's what's up Randy. These fbody cars feel a lot faster than the mustangs of the day.
The 4.6 mustangs were a joke! Gutless wonders
Yeah I wouldn’t worry about the heat . That oil pressure is entirely too low on idle . Bearings probably ready to go poof
What a car! Awesome find!
Anyone else already know his next video on this car will be of him complaining the engine developed a weird knocking noise. He'll explore and hypothesize what it could be, and all us car guys will be screaming again "YOU PUT 87 IN A CAR THAT REQUIRES PREMIUM 😂" otherwise you got a great deal on a collectors car. $18k was crazy with that high mileage but $6k was great. $10k is the sweet spot so you did good
Beautiful car, very rare. A nod to the 69 T-A. For 6k you scored big time for a Trans-Am.
What a bargain! Beautiful car! Can’t wait to see it all cleaned up.
Have a 94 Trans Am I bought new. 338.000 miles on it, engine never been touched except for plugs and 3 OPTISPARK replacements. Runs like new, uses no oil. Lifelong Southern California car, looks very good in and out. At about 145.000 miles the transmission started slipping ,had a GM factory reman installed, still working fine. I have no whine from the rear end every 40.000 miles I had it serviced at the dealer, new oil and thier additive which was for that unit specifically. Took it for about a 10 mile test drive in june of 94. Got back to the dealership, looked at the salesman and said, I'LL TAKE IT. LOL. no regrets ever. Enjoy this one, keep up on the maintenance .
Thanks for that comment, I just bought a 94 TA and will be picking it up in a few days, its in beautiful original condition with 240000 klms, yes Im in Canada, which I thought was a bit high but Really for a 30 year old car is actually not to bad, and yes proper maintenance is the key
I bought a 96 ta 6 speed with 70k for 3k a few years back no start like this one. The guy who had it couldn't figure it out i was certain it was the optispark so i bought it and took it home and put a new optispark on it hit the key fired right up ran like a new one.
Only thing I've seen mentioning frame damage is rust. I worked in a wholessale dealer center for 2 years and usually the ones that had frame rust had that mentioned on the history reports. However, if there's no underbody rust, then I don't know.
Visual frame damage, maybe rust . I hope not ,it's in great shape for the age .
The 25th Anniversary edition pays homage to the original 1969 model white with blue graphics. The loud noise from the rear diff possibly could be the pinion or ring gear teeth!
It looks like you've done good 👍. Put some brass gears in the headlight motors. I've got a 95 Trans am and I love it. And great fuel gas mileage. It has 273 gears..
Check the optispark,I owned a black 94 trans am. Gt. Mine did the same thing.....good luck my friend....good condition car,sad it doesn't run😧
Posi trac IS a limited slip. The blue throttle body plate is aftermarket and the blue valve covers were painted not stock colored. It looks like it has lowering springs in it by the stance. It's obviously not 100% stock. Imo $6k is a clean running lt1 car so you got fair market value... Could definitely find one similar for cheaper but finding a 25th anniversary car isn't as easy... Good score imo...
Great intuition. Way to go. Fits perfectly in with your collection. It's ready for a car show.
Limited slip is a general term for: in GM cars it’s called posi-trac, in Ford it’s branded True-trac and so on.. LSD is posi-traction..
if the fuse is blown for the cig lighter, that could be why the horn does not work. i have seen many cars where the horn and cig lighter are on the same circuit.
Funny enough my first car was a 94 Pontiac firebird v6. Bought it not running for $800 and got it running with a tank of gas and a coil pack. Gauge was reading half a tank at empty 😂
Curly from the 3 stooges would of said it's either half empty or half full?
I’m just gonna put this out there, but did you try putting gas in it?
😂😂 I know it’s a dumb question I know I know
Edit: let me just say, I made that content, and the beginning of the video when you first tried to start it😂😂
Nice find, I bought a 95 online 2006 out of Florida w/109k and now has just under 150k and it is the LT1 with the 6 speed. Ive done the optispark and while i was that deep replaced the timing chain and water pump. I still own it and is parked every winter here in Maine. Yor rear end noise is common as i have it when i let off the throttle. And my thermostat is a 160 so very little heat in mine also.
Use Motive gear when you rebuild it. Very strong and quiet also
im gonna be in the market and searching in about three weeks, i cant wait to buy my second firebird, i had a 98 base with magnaflows and headers done, baby was a dream and i never stopped dreaming
I was just at a car lot in NJ. Test drove a vehicle that was on E, as i pulled out of the lot the low fuel light came on. I went up the road & turned right around. He said it came in that way, i said if I'd buy it can i get a full tank also? He said NO, we dont do that.
Randy I love the white car and the little burn. Out but the rest of the car is beautiful
Look into the alarm system. My 2001 Camaro I purchased had a rod knock. So I changed the engine and battery,& it would not start. It tripped the alarm,& it had an aftermarket radio in it. To turn alarm off, consisted of pressing certain radio buttons to turn it off, which I didn’t have. Needless to say I had to get rid of it because of family issues. This was in 2012, then you had to bring it to a dealership for them to turn off the VATS system and I had no way to do that. Sucked for me
I love those 80s 90s cars memories 😊
Sweet Deal Randy She Sounds Wicked
Axle bearing for sure and the optispark could be on it way out, replace it with an MSD, GU5 code is 3:23 rear gear and G80 is Posi trac.... good video! - Mark
Always with the headlights, other than that and the wonky distributor you should have any major issues making it perfect. Beautiful Car Randy, you should keep that one brother😎
Get it up on a rack and inspect the frame for hidden issues. Rear diff needs work on the input shaft bearing more then likely
That oil pressure got crazy low at idle. Is that normal for those engines?
Yeah, thats kinda worrying.
I had a beater 87 corvette with the 350tpi and it had 25psi cold start or going 60, and at idle hot it had 10 psi oil pressure and I drove it like that for 4 years. It started getting into the 6psi range at idle and would try to stall so i parked it and sold it
An oil change with some marvel might prolong it but might be an oil pump or clogged pick up tube
I love it Randy, it probably just needs the heater core flushed. Sounds really good. 😊👍
brass gear swap in the headlight motors, heater core flush will get you heat, that oil pressure always freaks people out but the LT1's are always low, per GM 10psi per 1k rpm.
Try not to use the steering wheel to get in and out of the car, that'll create the infamous play in the column/wobbly steering wheel. The headlight noise is normal when they close.
I know what's wrong with it! Ain't got no gas in it😂😂😂😂😂😂!
I was just as excited as you were Randy when that car started. I love that thing it sounds absolutely awesome.
What a beauty! I got a '95 not in good condition but what fun
A lot of people think it means two rivers but it really means the mounds for the old Indian burial mounds that Des Moines is built in top of
Randy what a gem for 6k! Good cleaning and she’ll be a great car! Only thing wish it was a standard!
I've never yelled at my phone before now. It sounded like it was out of gas before you jumped it, after the jump I could tell it was out of gas😂😂😂
Nice machine…continuing with the Auto Auction REFILLS theme. Randy you got a good deal on that TA.
Very nice survivor driver T/A. Enjoy your new to you baby!
Nice car. Oil pressure looks very low. What is the underneath like rust wise. Can we please get it on a hoist?
Do you EVER check the brake lights?
Randy try changing rear end oil and add gm Posi additive.
Click bait city
definitely worth keeping ... love that style
Man i miss mine i had a red one exaxt body of that one same hood i had flow master exhaust and i loved cruising in it especially with the seating is super comfortable
You scored on that car Randy! A few quirky GM issues to fix and even if you have to rebuild the rear diff, so what! That car is awesome! I love it!
Good call on moving the Formula down the road. The T/A is way better! Well done!
LOVE the look nice car
i am old i noticed fuel gauge didn't move when started lol great show
I bought the exact same car 97,000 miles on it from a woman for $3500.
I wound up putting a new transmission, fuel pump, fuel tank, starter, alternator, battery
Now I’m in business so I still think I came out pretty good
Even when the gas gauge hits 1/4 you pretty much better be heading to QuikTrip,Cefco or somebody
Modern Day classic ,great find !
My neighbor used to have a convertible version!!!! Loved that car!
Anytime u can find 4th Gen Firebird/Trans Am last era for under $10grand is sweet score Randy
I'm a tech and the only allignment guy at my shop. That sticker in the glove box also helps with allignments. U need thos codes from the program in the allignment machine.
I've had several GM's that the gas gauge would get to 1/4 or 1/8th and be out of gas
Your fuel sending unit is off? If 5 gallons of gas can bring the gauge from empty to over 1/2, either the pickup tube fell off, or the sending unit is bad? Looking forward to seeing the underside…
