6k is a great deal for that car. Usually the dash and door panels are cracked. Seats ripped at that price. I have a 94 black trans am. Picked it up with 40k miles for 5k a few years ago and needed some cosmetic and minor mechanical tlc from sitting. Now she’s like brand new and fun to drive. I am also a collector of 80s and 90s cars. Mostly Pontiac. I get them cheaper so I can fix them up and drive ‘em. My wife wants to kill me lol

For those saying that the gas gauge is off, the tanks in those models are wedge shaped \ / like a "V" smaller quantities registered higher on the gauge. I had a 95 Z28 and the fuel gauge would move slowly from full to half, and then take a nosedive after around half tank till empty 😅

Randy, for your headlight motor issue, you can either change the headlight motor, or do the brass gear upgrade. My t/a had the same issue, seems like these and the c4 Corvette had same issue. I had a Corvette guy in my area help me out with the gear idea. Factory is plastic/nylon and due to age just strips out etc.......far as rear diff noise, check your fluid. May just need service

Like your idea of replacing plastic with brass. Nice upgrade. The diff on Randy's car is done. Mine sounded\did the same thing. Quiet at low or high speeds but between 48 & 64 there was that annoying whine. Had to rebuild it. Got it professionally done and suspension work for $400. Hopefully the mirrors not working is just a blown fuse or just need silicone spray on the gears.

Your codes at 23:53 are RPO codes. Basically it just tells you what options your car has if you want to go decode them. 6K is a great deal on this T/A! I had a 2000 Firebird and this video definitely brought back a ton of memories, like the gear noise from the headlight motors. I rebuilt my motors with brass gears and it eliminated the issue. Getting them out is a pain in the ass but it’s definitely doable. As far as leaks are concerned, the fourth gens are notorious for rear main and pan gasket leaks so keep an eye on those. My old car had a rear main leak and admittedly it wasn’t a terrible leak, but it was noticeable especially when you drove with the windows down or with the heater on and got a nice whiff of burning oil.

Randy, try the heat on "floor." Some GMs from the 90s and earlier had a feature where the air temperature coming out of the panel vents was limited, so that you could have hot air coming out the floor but cooler air at upper body level to keep comfortable due to the warming effect of the sun. Toyotas do that too, while Fords of the era would have the same temperature regardless of airflow selection.

    • @amadeo_serrano

The "frame damage" could also be a flattened or dented spot somewhere on the structure from a speed bump or other obstruction. Being a unibody car, that could include pinch-welded ribs on the actual body structure or dent on one or both subframes.

Very nice Trans Am Firebird. A bottle or two of Chevron Techron high mileage fuel additive will dissolve the deposits on the fuel level sender in the fuel tank. It would appear that the fuel gauge isn't quite accurate. There are YT videos on removing/replacing the heater core. I would replace the fuel filter as all the nasty stuff from the bottom of the tank probably got pushed into the filter. Fix her and flip her, good to go!

  • @bml33

You're probably going to need a new diff. I had a 2001 Camaro with the Y87 pkg which included many of the Z28 hardware with a posi traction rear. Most likely the same unit. I followed the service guide and took it in for a diff fluid change at 3k miles (only 3k the first time, then I think every 50k) and immediately after I had a whine. The stupid dealership would not fix it. They said it was normal. After going back and forth with them several times I said screw it and found a local shop that could replace the unit. I'm not sure what they replaced it with....but from the moment I drove out, no more noise ever and I put 100k on that car. If I remember correctly you have to use special fluid or an additive in that Torsen unit or it could get damaged and I bet the dealership didn't. Try doing a fluid change and use the specified friction additive and see if it goes away. If not, replace it.

You got a great deal. That car is really clean to be 30 years old. I never had an issue with my horn, not sure what is going on there. My heater did the same thing though, took forever to get hot. I flushed it gently with water and it helped a little, but it still too 10 miles in the winter to even start to get warm. I cannot believe that rear emblem is not faded and the dash is not cracked. Car must've been garage kept or maybe those things have been replaced. As far as I can tell, it needs a headlight motor, maybe some rear gears, horn (fuse), and that's it.

I have no whine from the rear end every 40.000 miles I had it serviced at the dealer, new oil and thier additive which was for that unit specifically. Posi trac IS a limited slip. The blue throttle body plate is aftermarket and the blue valve covers were painted not stock colored. It looks like it has lowering springs in it by the stance. It's obviously not 100% stock. Imo $6k is a clean running lt1 car so you got fair market value... Could definitely find one similar for cheaper but finding a 25th anniversary car isn't as easy... Funny enough my first car was a 94 Pontiac firebird v6. Bought it not running for $800 and got it running with a tank of gas and a coil pack. Gauge was reading half a tank at empty 😂

Nice find, I bought a 95 online 2006 out of Florida w/109k and now has just under 150k and it is the LT1 with the 6 speed. Ive done the optispark and while i was that deep replaced the timing chain and water pump. I still own it and is parked every winter here in Maine. Yor rear end noise is common as i have it when i let off the throttle. And my thermostat is a 160 so very little heat in mine also.

Look into the alarm system. My 2001 Camaro I purchased had a rod knock. So I changed the engine and battery,& it would not start. It tripped the alarm,& it had an aftermarket radio in it. To turn alarm off, consisted of pressing certain radio buttons to turn it off, which I didn’t have. Needless to say I had to get rid of it because of family issues. This was in 2012, then you had to bring it to a dealership for them to turn off the VATS system and I had no way to do that. Sucked for me

brass gear swap in the headlight motors, heater core flush will get you heat, that oil pressure always freaks people out but the LT1's are always low, per GM 10psi per 1k rpm.

Your fuel sending unit is off? If 5 gallons of gas can bring the gauge from empty to over 1/2, either the pickup tube fell off, or the sending unit is bad? Looking forward to seeing the underside…
