If Ruud has a preexisting relationship with Ten Hag and they are both aware of the implications, then I'm all for it. But,if INEOS are just going to install him as a potential interim, then I think that it isn't an ideal situation for ETH's peace of mind...

I would love to have Ruud back at United in a role like this. He's the reason i became a United fan. His PSV stint as manager wasn't some fairytale story, but it was very decent for his first job (which he got pushed into too soon btw, he himself mentioned he wasnt ready.) He even got some players to like him so much that one ran out the room and cried in his car when he announced he was quitting the PSV coach job.

  • @michaelrosenquist6293

Great way for him to learn about coaching in the premier league. Many newish coaches have not succeeded in the Prem. Usually, I think was a too soon, or to big of a step up. This way he can get his feet wet with PL coaching-experience, and not be under huge pressure right away. Can always go to a different PL team next year or in 2 years. I think Burnley would be a big challenge coming from only coaching PSV in the past. He did well, but I'm not sure if he has enough experience to do well in the PL. And I would hate to see one of our Greats be treated to like dirt by the media and pundits. I hope he can swallow his pride, and get some great coaching experience in the PL, and from ETH.

For what it's worth, Burnley are not playing in the top tier of English football and there's no guarantee that they'll gain promotion immediately. (I don't think there's any quick fix in achieving this, to be honest.)
On the other hand, the sheer size and magnitude of Manchester United and the type of players that the club has and attracts will probably mean that this will be an even bigger job for Ruud and a greater test of his capabilities. If he performs well here, major clubs from other top leagues could try to poach him, even if he does not end up becoming the next manager of Manchester United.
Working at a top club like ours will also mean that he will be massively involved in European club competitions on a regular basis, something that might not happen at a lesser club no matter how good a manager he might be.
Looking at it from the above angle, it would make more sense for Ruud to pick his old club over Burnley.
