Sections of Jamaica are still being pounded by relentless rains and gusty winds from Hurricane Beryl. Beryl made landfall early Wednesday morning, but significant effects were not observed until around 10 AM in some areas, with other regions experiencing impacts later.
We begin our field team coverage of Jamaica's first major hurricane this year with Natalia Clarke in St. Thomas, who will walk us through the day's progression. As we made our way across the parish, we visited Bamboo River, a community prone to flooding but had to retreat immediately due to severe conditions.
Hurricane Beryl's passage through the southeastern parish also resulted in sections of the new highway being battered by waves. In the vicinity of the Rozzelle natural roadside spring, the sea was spitting up rubble, slowing the pace of motorists.
The Morant Bay Urban Centre, a prime development set to open in September, however, did not seem compromised. The rapidly intensifying weather didn't allow for prolonged observations.
Stay tuned to CVM News for more updates on Hurricane Beryl and the ongoing field coverage from across Jamaica. Stay safe and informed.
