What most people don't notice as they don't play ekko.
What's impressive is that he always knows where his ult is, even without leveling it up. It's very hard because, not only do you have to think about where you were 4 seconds ago, you also have to account for the fact that because of the casting time, it's actually more like 4.25 seconds ago and therefore, your ult can miss because of that. His mastery of ulti is even more impressive when you have this insight as it is difficult to land even when leveld up.
There is the fact that sometimes, he moves as if he would disengage, away from his target, only to dashes in just after completly hiding his intentions. This is a fundamental mechanic of ekko.
Finding ways to entice your ennemy to move into you or predict them moving into you is what permits ekko to have the range to engage ennemies.
This is the difference between a gold ekko just dashing in thinking you are auto killing everything squishy only to get kited to death,
and Xiao Lao Ban reading his ennemy movements and using E just as they even very briefly click forward. Of course, you can use protobelt, but if you just use proto like this, you are at best a budget leblanc doing 0 damage. Proto is best used to apply a burst with auto reset, or engaging with W. There is situations where just forcing a play with proto to chunk adc is ok, but it's not the norm.
His W placement is also very impressive. He has a very impressive game sense. This is what permits him to place W where he should.
He is a human and therefore not perfect, but out of all the ekko i watched, he is the most consistent at that. I would say that with the stats out of my ass that i have that are totally reliable. He puts like 30% clutch teamfight winning W, 65% not useless W providing a shield or dissuading from engaging or else, and the rest is useless W.
Of course his clicking is very good, espacially when using hell of blade, him clicking behind his target and on his target in rapid succession to proc HoB very consistently never or rarely missclicking.
His matchup knowledge enabling him to handle leblanc, diana, vladimir, even kassadin.
Last but not least, he is a very good midlaner overall.
I could continue to talk about every little ekko mechanics he mastered like a good OTP would, but i will leave you alone, if you read my rant until this passage, thanks for listening to a mad ekko OTP's ramblings.
